Ayame trades her signature Bleed Caster style for a supportive Protector role. She aims to debuff and disrupt the enemy while supporting her party with buffs, shields and Damage Reduction.
Passive - Moonlight Swordflight - Ayame’s Basic Attacks grant her stacks of Moonlight. Upon reaching the 4th stack, she consumes all 4 to grant her a shield (12s). While the shield is active, she gains DMG Taken Reduction and reduces enemy Mana recovery.
S1 - Moonlight Shackles - Attacks the nearest enemy, knocking them back and binding them in place, effectively CCing them if they do not have a valid target in range.
S2 - Moonlight Mark - an AOE damage targeting the furthest enemy that applies Taunt to all enemies hit. Ayame gains a shield (6s).
Main - Moonlight Slash - Attacks the nearest enemy, reducing their Speed and Mana Recovery (6s) while gaining a shield (12s).
Ultimate - Moonlight Devastation - An AOE attack to all enemies within 4.5m. She leaves behind a field that deals DoT Damage to enemies within it and reduces their speed and HP recovery.
Artifact Skill - Moonlight Bulwark - All allies gain (5 - 20%) ATK/ DEF (up to 5 stacks) every 6 seconds while Ayame is on the field. At max stacks, all other allies in the party gain 30% DMG reduction. At Legend+, she grants the party a shield (12s) every 12 seconds and at Origin, she inflicts a permanent 20% DMG taken increase debuff.
The 3rd release in back-to-back Angel/ Demon/ Chaotic banners, Ayame shies away from the already inundated DPS spotlight in favor of support. The combination of her S1 being able to Knockback and Bind enemies, paired with her various debuffs - affecting Mana Recovery, HP Recovery, and Speed - aims to control the field while providing the party with a bulky, constantly shielded body to tank hits from the enemy. All well and good on paper, but without sufficient self-recovery, resistances and DMG Taken Reduction (it is only applied on passive procs) to back it up, Ayame struggles to fulfill that role solo, and must be paired with additional defenders/supports.
This kit is also overshadowed by her powerful Artifact, which provides an insanely potent ATK and DEF buff (100% each at Origin), as well as a permanent DMG Taken increase debuff at Origin. This gives her a decent role in raids as a powerful buffer (similar to Hanul, who has a similar Artifact and kit). The party shield supplied by her Artifact (Legend+) also only lasts for a short 12 seconds, and cannot be depended on as it is on a timer. Ayame should work well as a 2nd, more potent Hanul in the Dark Knight raids, but little else at the moment.
With this in mind, players battered by back-to-back A/D/C banners may want to go ascension-lite on Ayame (Eternal, Eternal+), with focus being on her Artifact. As Ayame is a Demon soul, her ascension requirements are much more dupe heavy than normal souls and therefore much more expensive to invest on heavily. The bulk of her utility outside of her artifact can be accessed from lower rarities, although you may need to equip HP gear to keep her tanky. Newer players who are looking for a strong 2nd carry might want to look elsewhere.
However, if you are in the market for a strong buffer, or want to enjoy the eye candy while it lasts (it is very good eye candy), Ayame is a good pull in that regard.
Strong buffing capabilities via her Artifact.
Decent defensive sub-tank with decent PvE utility.
3d Modeling is a marked improvement from the original model.
Lack of resistances and self recovery.
Dependent on Basic Attacks for her Damage reduction buff.
Raid capability is locked behind heavy investment on Artifact upgrades.
PvE utility has little use in Raid content.
