Review
Matikanefukukitaru is a Medium/Long-distance racer who typically runs as a Late Surger, though she could probably also work as a Pace Chaser. She has a 20% bonus in Stamina and a 10% bonus in Power, which is very strong for her distances. The extra Stamina in particular is helpful. She’s an interesting Uma who likely performs best in Long races. That’s where her unique skill activates the most consistently. However, her unique is still not great. It’s a Speed-boosting skill that relies on the path ahead being blocked, which is not a reliable condition for a unique. It also makes her less appealing as a parent to pass down skills from.
Looking at her skill set, there are some interesting options that tie into her lore, where she believes in luck and the divine. She has the ability Lucky Seven, which upgrades into the gold skill Super Lucky Seven. Unfortunately, this ability is quite bad. The effect itself is solid, boosting Speed, Stamina, and Power by 60, but it only activates if you start in Gate 7, which is pure RNG. Because of this, it’s almost never worth taking, especially in its gold form, which is costly.
She also has another skill with “7” in its name, Triple 7s. Thankfully, this one always activates consistently at 777m remaining. It’s a pretty solid Blue recovery skill. Another option she has is A Small Breather, which can be a good fall back if all your other ones don’t activate.
On the debuff side, she has Smoke Screen, which upgrades into Illusionist. This narrows the opponent’s field of view, but any skill related to FOV is essentially useless, so this is no exception. However, she also gets Trick (Rear) and Hesitant Front Runners, both of which are good debuffs to have.
On the career side, I want to mention that there is some randomness in which races you might have to run. It doesn’t make a huge difference, but I just wanted to note that the objectives are still the same distances, with only a switch between G2 and G3.
Matikanefukukitaru is not the best racer if you want to win Champion’s Meetings, especially since she doesn’t have her own Gold Recovery skills for long races (Though she does have a solid Blue Recovery). However, her Gold debuff is fairly consistent in Team Trials if you just want something reliable for more score. Her skills in general have fairly easy conditions to trigger, except for Super Lucky Seven, which almost never activates. Outside of Team Trials, you might be able to build her as a debuffer, since she comes with three debuff skills, although only two of them are useful. Still, it is definitely doable. She is not the strongest racer Uma, but if you give her a chance and build her properly, maybe Shiraoki will bless you too.
Build
Below you can find best builds for Matikanefukukitaru.
With a distance that ranges from 1900m to 2400m, Medium races are the most 'balanced' and with the highest diversity of builds among all. Umas with "A" aptitude for Medium make the majority when it comes to aptitude distribution, and each running style has a different approach here and good chances to shine.
Unlike Sprint and Mile, where you spam most of your turns training Speed, when it comes to Medium, it's desirable to keep Speed and Stamina balanced in the early career before pushing to maximize or fill in the amounts needed for the build. The amount and priority for Speed vs Stamina will depend on the Running Style you're training, with Power following right after in importance.
Remember that you have a secret +400 bonus during your career, so take that into consideration to cover the basic threshold before filling the final amount of stat needed for the other game modes. As a rule of thumb, the total Stamina you need:
Front: 980, Pace: 1100, Late: 1020, End: 1040
A "Risky" version, aka if you have a gold recovery skill to carry you:
Front: 770, Pace: 880, Late: 820, End: 830
This means that for early career mode, even with a F2P deck, you only need to worry about having more or less 370/480/420/430 Stamina to fulfill your goals, and then you can focus the Stamina training on later rounds.
