Review
The very adorable Love and Hate, Don Quixote, is a powerful Identity with a unique take on functionality in regards to Plus Coin and Negative Coin IDs, being among the first of IDs to be a hybrid of both. Love and Hate Don Quixote is a unique ID that, depending on whether she has positive or negative Sanity, she’ll use Plus Coins and Negative Coins respectively. Don’s kit may seem daunting at first, but it is actually easy to understand, which we’ll go over now.
To begin Don’s plethora of different keywords, let’s start with the ones core to her kit, and move on from there. Firstly, “Love/Hate” is her Unique Charge that gets applied on Encounter Start. This status behaves exactly like how normal Charge does, including the way some effects interact with Charge Potency/Count. Don’s “Magical Girl of Love / Queen of Hatred” Passive allows her to deal +2% damage for every Love/Hate Potency, maxing at 10%. For the sake of this review, “Love/Hate” will just be referred to as Charge.
Next, we have “Hysteria” which also gets applied on Encounter Start. On Turn End, if Don is at 0 or high SP, she’ll lose 1 stack of Hysteria, but if she has less than 0, she’ll gain 1 stack. This status will be used later on for certain skills.
Finally, we have a status called “Magical Arcana” which is gained by certain skills and the Passive, “Magical Girl of Love / Queen of Hatred”, which requires you to have 4 Envy Resonance. This effect allows Base Attack Skills to deal a bit of extra damage. If she has 3 Stacks of Magical Arcana and has -25 or more Sanity by the end of the Turn, her SP will be changed to -25. Without this effect, it is impossible to get access to Negative skills, which is why 4 Envy Res is a MUST to get access to her most damage dealing skills.
Moving on to the states that determine whether or not Don will use Plus Coins or Negative Coins, we have “Here Comes Magical Girl!” which activates at the start of every turn. This state is gained upon having 0 or higher SP, where it will convert all of Don’s skills into their Plus Coin versions. All of her positive skills will also gain +3% damage for every Charge Potency she has, maxing out at 15%. These are Don’s Plus Coin skills:
Skill 1 - By Manager Esquire’s Orders, I Am Here - 2 Coin Skill - Base Roll 11, Max Roll 17 - This skill is a solid Skill 1, gaining a total of 6 Charge Count.
Skill 2 - With Love! Hyah! - 2 Coin Skill - Base Roll 16, Max Roll 18 - This skill deals an extra +10% damage for every Charge Potency that Don has, for a maximum of 50%. On Hit with the second Coin, this skill will also inflict Mark of Villainy, which is an effect equal to 1 Fragile that works exclusively for Don Quixote.
Skill 3 - Arcana Beats!! / Minor Arcana Slave!!! - 3 Coin Skill - Base Roll 17, Max Roll 31 - This skill has several damage modifiers to it, where it deals +30% damage for every Magical Arcana on self and when Don has 3+ Charge Potency, she deals +(Charge Potency * 20%) damage for a maximum of 100%. After the attack, Don gains 1 Magical Arcana.
Defensive Skill - Clashable Guard - Rapid Chant - Base roll 12 - Max roll 15 - A guaranteed Envy skill with 4 Charge Count gain
On the other end, we also have the opposite of “Here Comes Magical Girl!”, where when Don falls below 0 SP, Don will lose the Magical Girl status and instead gain “Regressive Transformation - Reversed,” where this state will convert all of Don’s skills to their Negative Coin versions. These are her Negative Coin skills:
Skill 1 - Where are… the villains…? - 2 Coin Skill - Base Roll 12, Max Roll 15 - This skill, similar to the Positive Coin one, gains a total of +6 Charge Count, and deals +5% damage for every Hysteria on self.
Skill 2 - Get out of my head… - 2 Coin Skill - Base Roll 15, Max Roll 18 - This skill gains +1 Attack Weight when Don has 3 stacks of Hysteria, but it’ll deal -50% damage against sub-targets. This skill will also inflict Mark of Villainy.
Skill 3 - Reversed Beats / Reversed Arcana Slave - 3 Coin Skill - Base Roll 20, Max Roll in a Clash 27 - This skill deals increased damage for every Charge Potency on self, maxed at 5 potency. Before the attack, Don will consume all of her Hysteria and Magical Arcana buffs to gain up to +4 Attack weight, her targets also gain -50% less dmg in a similar manner as S2. If there is only 1 enemy to be hit, she will boost her damage for every slot wasted. The Skill will also lose -6 Base Power for every Cracked Coin. Finally, she will heal up to 60 SP if she doesn't get to -45 SP.
To conclude her skillset, she is a Charge based unit centered around Envy Resonance. It’s worth noting that Don does inflict Rupture when she’s in her Plus Coin state and Sinking in her Negative Coin state. Although with both Rupture and Sinking, she lacks any count application to work properly in these teams.
Envy Res/Charge team: Since her only way to turn into her mad form is to spam Envy Res, her only viable team at the moment can be Envy Res/Charge mix team, with multicrack IDs being her best allies in terms of both Sin spread and utility.
In the Name of Love and Hate - Has a Unique passive that provides QoH Don Quixote ID with an extra S3 use, extra Charge gain, and increased damage.
Telepole - Still the extremely valuable battery E.G.O that it is, Telepole will always remain a cheap way to give your entire team Charge Count on the Corrosion.
Mass AoE with high damage in negative SP stance.
Very high damage ceiling.
Restrictive team building around Envy Resonance compositions.
Inconsistency due to constant Sanity shifts.
Positive SP stance is significantly inferior to the Negative SP one.
S3-2 forces you into a positive stance.
No Corrosion protection like The Sword Sharpened with Tears Rodion and more risky use of E.G.Os in general.
