Tier list

The Identities are actually decently balanced and you can make a lot of them work well regardless of the tier they’re in.Previously, our Tier List tried to emphasize the main strengths of each Identity and rank them accordingly which allowed certain IDs to rank high for only a specific purpose.

But moving forward, we are changing our approach and there will be two tier lists: one focused on primarily things like Story and more generic content, and the other focused on content that is later in the game (specifically Canto 7 where Chain Battles are more streamlined and as such IDs that scale well there are favored).

There’s a lot of nuance and context that has to be drawn for ranking an ID outside and inside their team, so we hope that with the separation of these two lists, it would be easier to define an ID inside and outside their team.

Generic Tier List (Beginner) is targeted towards new players which will assess IDs at Uptie 3 and relatively low investment, meaning the IDs here either partially or does not have their other teammates to go with them, and will be purely rated on their performance alone. The IDs on this tier list will be rated by:

  • Versatility
  • Clashing
  • Utility
  • Availability

Generic Tier List (Endgame) is targeted towards more experienced players at the endgame and an ID’s individual performance with their dedicated team. With the addition of Chain Battles, the IDs on this list will be rated by:

  • Utility
  • Damage
  • Consistency
Special markings

We have added markings to the top left corner of the characters that are limited:

  • E - Event ID
  • PE - Prior Season Event ID
  • S - Prior Season ID
  • W - Walpurgisnacht ID

Roles

We compare characters within their role - so damage dealers are compared to other damage dealers and the ratings are adjusted based on their performance within the role.

  • Damage Dealer: Rating is heavily influenced based on the ID's damage and utility to both deal damage and amplify the damage of others, including their own.
  • Status Specialist: Rating is heavily influenced based on the ID's ability to stack the count and potency of every status or brings something unique to that status to make it overall effective and stronger.
  • Support: Rating is heavily influenced based on the ID's ability to give buffs to allies, debuffs to enemies, and overall utility to help defeat enemies quicker.
  • Tank: Rating is heavily influenced based on the ID's ability to take damage and their benefits to taking damage.
Generic Tier List (Beginner)
  • IDs will be rated independently, with minimal team synergy in mind. This also includes an ID’s flexibility and how it can perform independently, as well as whether or not an Identity’s teammates are required or are necessary to have to use the ID.
  • The support passives of IDs will not be taken into account when rating IDs.
  • Unique Story buffs are not taken into account.
  • The availability of an ID will also majorly affect it’s ranking in this Tier List, especially if an ID relies on something that is exclusive to either Walpurgisnacht or Collab Event.
  • All IDs on this Tier List will be rated at Uptie 3 (Uptie 3 Pages are unavailable for individual IDs).
Generic Tier List (Endgame)
  • IDs will be rated using optimal team composition in mind.
  • The support passives of IDs will be taken into account through their reviews, not the Tier List.
  • The Utility an ID brings to a team will be taken into account.
  • All IDs on this Tier List will be rated at Uptie 4

Meta Lines

Meta Lines categorize each section of the tier list into a power bracket. Here are the four brackets:

  • Best in Role Characters (SS & S+) - IDs in this bracket are the best of the best. They can dish out outrageous damage, enable a ton of synergy with other IDs, and provide massive buffs or debuffs with their kits. They excel in any form of content that this game has to offer.
  • Meta Characters (S & A) - Characters in this bracket perform extremely well in content, but compared to the tier above them, they don't perform as well or more work is required for them to operate. They'll still be able to consistently clear all forms of content though.
  • Niche Characters (B) - Characters in this bracket have the really short end of the stick, either extremely reliant on the team they're put in, requires a bunch of effort to get working, or just overall does not perform as good as the characters in the higher tiers.
  • Bad Characters (C & D) - Characters in this bracket are just not good. Even in their best conditions they have absolutely nothing that makes them even remotely useful to the team. You'd actively be crippling yourself by using them.
Ratings

In the endgame there are a lot of shifts, mainly drops, as power creep with the newest Identities makes older ones less appealing to use. The change to combat being focused on 7 Sinners on the field changes how certain teams operate, as teams are not as restrictive as they were before. The bar is constantly being raised with each new Identity release. Due to how big the list of those Identities that dropped is, we are gonna explain more of the reasoning for those that got a raise on the tier list. Dropped won’t be as extensive. First, those who got a raise:

  • [Heishou Pack - Si Branch] Gregor & [Heishou Pack - Si Branch] Rodion - S -> S+ - Release of Mao Faust and nerf of Talisman Sinclair made both Si even more useful, with not only more Deathrites to increase Mao Faust stacking speed, but also provides a bit more debuffs for Xichun Ishmael.
  • [The Barber of La Manchaland] Outis - S -> S+ - Damage modifiers and AoE on Skill 3 make her stand out from other S-tier Identities.
  • [LCE E.G.O::Lantern] Yi Sang - S -> S+ - Nerf to Talisman Sinclair made LCE Yi Sang a bit more appealing option to use
  • [Fanghunt Office Fixer] Hong Lu - B -> A (DPS → Status Specialist) - With the nerf of Talisman Sinclair, Rupture lacks in quick potency application, and this is where Fang Hunt Hong Lu comes in, providing what the team needs.

The drops below are caused by: Powercreep in damage (newer Identities have damage modifiers with which old Identities can’t compete against), bias against certain statuses (Sinking is constantly has to fight against enemies who benefit from negative Sanity or enemies being made specifically for newer Rupture Identities to work without favouring older ones):

  • [The Ring Pointillist Student] Yi Sang & [W Corp. L3 Cleanup Agent] Ryoshu - SS -> S+ - Lacks damage modifiers to compete with newer Identities.
  • [MultiCrack Office Rep] Faust - SS -> S+ - While can still perform very well, charge as a whole is lacking in comparison to other archetypes.
  • [The One Who Shall Grip] Sinclair, [Cinq South Section 4 Director] Sinclair & [W Corp. L3 Cleanup Agent] Don Quixote - S+ -> S - Lacks damage modifiers to compete with newer Identities.
  • [The Pequod Harpooner] Heathcliff - S+ -> S - While more allies and unbreakable coins would mean he can perform great, in reality, he is not providing much, especially with a lack of any decent self-sustain.
  • [District 20 Yurodivy] Hong Lu - S+ -> S - His damage rotation is quite slow to work around, and he is overreliant on his ego to perform well, and our tier list does not account for non-base EGOs.
  • [Devyat' Assoc. North Section 3] Rodion - S+ -> S - Si Rodion is a better Rupture option currently (talisman nerf biggest victim).
  • [Wuthering Heights Butler] Faust - S+ -> S - Sinking as a whole is not facing “favourable” enemies.
  • [Seven Assoc. South Section 4] Faust & [Seven Assoc. South Section 4] Heathcliff & [Cinq Assoc. West Section 3] Meursault - S -> A - There are better Identities for their archetype.
  • [Kurokumo Clan Wakashu] Hong Lu & [Kurokumo Clan Wakashu] Ryoshu- S -> A - Full Kurokumo team is in a rough spot, and it causes Identities, other than Kurokumo Heath and Ishmael, also to be put in a rough spot.
  • [Blade Lineage Salsu] Faust - S -> A - Her utility and damage leave a bit to be desired currently.
  • [Seven Association South Section 6] Ryoshu - S -> A - Her utility, while it can be good, is not needed.
  • [Dieci Assoc. South Section 4 Director] Meursault - S -> A - Lacklustre “utility”.
  • [LCCB Assistant Manager] Ishmael - S -> A - There are better Rupture Identities to work with, and her big application is not needed.
  • [Twinhook Pirates First Mate] Gregor - A -> B - His damage conditions are too hard to work around due to not so great Poise generation.
  • [Shi Association South Section 5] Ishmael - A -> B - Lacks damage modifiers to compete with newer Identities.
  • [Kurokumo Clan Wakashu] Rodion & [Kurokumo Clan Captain] Gregor- A -> B - Full Kurokumo team is in a rough spot, and it causes Identities, other than Kurokumo Heath and Ishmael, also to be put in a rough spot.
  • [R Corp. 4th Pack Rhino] Meursault & [W Corp. L2 Cleanup Agent] Meursault - A -> B - Lacklustre “utility”.
  • [Lobotomy E.G.O::Red Sheet] Sinclair - B -> D - Nerf made him horrible to use.
  • [N Corp. Mittelhammer] Don Quixote - B -> C - Lacklustre “utility”.

And we also have some drops in the Beginner category:

  • [Seven Association South Section 6] Ryoshu & [Seven Assoc. South Section 4] Faust - S -> A - There are better options for beginners.
  • [LCCB Assistant Manager] Ishmael - S -> A - Clunky to use.
  • [The Pequod Captain] Ishmael - S -> A - Most of her buffs are locked behind Uptie 4.
  • [Cinq Assoc. West Section 3] Meursault - S -> A - Lacklustre at Uptie 3.
  • [Liu Association South Section 6] Meursault - A ->B - Nowadays there are better Burn units.
  • [Cinq Assoc. South Section 5 Director] Don Quixote - B -> C - Not very impressive at Uptie 3.
