Tier list

The Identities are actually decently balanced, and you can make a lot of them work well regardless of the tier they’re in.

The current tier list focuses mostly on “End-game” performance, which is the Refraction Railway environment; however, it also considers things such as how easy an Identity is to use, how well they perform or if their gimmick and niche are worth using. Identities’ utility, damage output and consistency constitute the key factors determining their overall strength.

Special markings

We have added markings to the top left corner of the characters that are limited:

  • E - Event ID
  • PE - Prior Season Event ID
  • S - Prior Season ID
  • W - Walpurgisnacht ID
  • - Indicates Identity tier list placement is due to meta E.G.O Synergy.

Roles

We compare characters within their role - so damage dealers are compared to other damage dealers and the ratings are adjusted based on their performance within the role.

  • Damage Dealer: Rating is heavily influenced based on the ID's damage and utility to both deal damage and amplify the damage of others, including their own.
  • Status Specialist: Rating is heavily influenced based on the ID's ability to stack the count and potency of every status or brings something unique to that status to make it overall effective and stronger.
  • Support: Rating is heavily influenced based on the ID's ability to give buffs to allies, debuffs to enemies, and overall utility to help defeat enemies quicker.
  • Tank: Rating is heavily influenced based on the ID's ability to take damage and their benefits to taking damage.
Tier List Criteria
  • IDs will be rated using optimal team composition in mind.
  • The support passives of IDs will be taken into account through their reviews, not the Tier List.
  • The Utility an ID brings to a team will be taken into account.
  • All IDs on this Tier List will be rated at Uptie 4
  • E.G.O. synergies are included in ratings of units under the following assumptions
    • Unit has to have a unique synergy with an E.G.O that makes them perform on the level of units in the tier directly above them (or even higher)
    • The "universally strong" E.G.O. are less important in evaluation because their versatility won't make a specific ID more useful.
    • Passive effects of E.G.O. that make their holder stronger in their team indirectly will be mentioned more frequently whenever the placement is adjusted
    • Due to the nature of Collaboration E.G.Os, they won’t be included in the rating criteria or have an impact on any unit placement

Meta Lines

Meta Lines categorize each section of the tier list into a power bracket. Here are the four brackets:

  • Best in Role Characters (SS & S+) - IDs in this bracket are the best of the best. They can dish out outrageous damage, enable a ton of synergy with other IDs, and provide massive buffs or debuffs with their kits. They excel in any form of content that this game has to offer.
  • Meta Characters (S & A) - Characters in this bracket perform extremely well in content, but compared to the tier above them, they don't perform as well or more work is required for them to operate. They'll still be able to consistently clear all forms of content though.
  • Niche Characters (B) - Characters in this bracket have the really short end of the stick, either extremely reliant on the team they're put in, requires a bunch of effort to get working, or just overall does not perform as good as the characters in the higher tiers.
  • Bad Characters (C & D) - Characters in this bracket are just not good. Even in their best conditions they have absolutely nothing that makes them even remotely useful to the team. You'd actively be crippling yourself by using them.
Ratings Defined
  • SS - Absolute best in their respective category. Offers more than Identities in tiers below, or a unique/core part of their kit, makes them stand out. They can be used everywhere, and they will be THE best option for their dedicated team.
  • S+ - A very strong unit with minor issues that do not allow it to be in the SS category. It could be the lack of stats, status application issues, lack of personal damage, or other gimmicks that makes a unit weaker.
  • S - An above-average unit that can be an alternative for the last slot in a team. They are not necessarily bad, but their kit restrictions and/or lack of stats leave a bit to be desired.
  • A - An average unit that is a versatile option that makes sense to use in case of lacking a unit from a tier above. Still a solid option to run due to the ease of the game.
  • B - An A-tier unit only viable in certain scenarios. These IDs have certain niches that require more investment to make them work.
  • C - Average characters that have big flaws and struggle very hard to even play their own role.
  • D - Detrimental, passive providers only or completely overshadowed by other IDs. Avoid at all costs.

  • The Index Proselyte:【Paper Slip】Faust → Damage Dealer A
  • [LCA Udjat Vanguard Team 3 Leader] Outis → Support S
  • [Wuthering Heights Chief Butler] Outis → Status Specialist A → S
    • [Wuthering Heights Chief Butler] Outis was kept initially at A before arrival of Udjat to see how relase of new Sinking ID of Outis would affect her. However both Udjat and Butler serve different purpose and role, which is why Butler Outis is being moved to S.

  • [Heishou pack - Mao branch] Ryoshu and Outis S+ > SS - with talisman nerf and mao Faust release, the entire playstyle of rupture has changed. Maos singlehandedly take care of any rupture count application problems, allowing you to build around potency application in your teams
  • [Devyat Assoc. Nortnh Section 3] Sinclair A > S - with talisman nerf, the sinclair slot was unlocked for rupture team. Devyat clair provide meaningful damage, while scaling very good in "boss rush" environment.
  • [Kurokumo Clan Wakashu] Hong lu A > B - got caught by powercreep
  • [Lobotomy E.G.O.:: Red Eyes & Penitence] Ryoshu S+ > S - Even though her healing and tanking capabilities are still competitive up to this day, Damage dealer category is not concerned by it, and her damage is very lacking compared to everyone in the same tier
  • [Edgar Family Heir] Gregor / [Liu assoc. South section 4] Ishmael / [Liu Association South Section 3] Yi Sang / [Liu Assoc. South Section 4 Director] Rodion / [Lobotomy E.G.O.::Regret] Faust / [Rorsespanner Workshop Rep.] Rodion are all being moved to Status Specialist category - the shift in category is caused by general powercreep in damage dealer category, while all of these units are slotted mostly for their status infliction capabilities, which is why their placements were reevaluated respectively. Additionaly with that shift some of them have their tiers changed:
    • [Liu Assoc. South Section 4 Director] Rodion A > S
    • [Liu Association South Section 3] Yi Sang S > S+
    • [Rorsespanner Workshop Rep.] B > A
    • [Lobotomy E.G.O.:: Lantern] Don Quixote Tank > Status Specialist - while not being affected in her tanking capabilities , her status infliction capabilities are way more significant than her tanking potential.
    • [The Middle Little Brother] Sinclair A > S - even with all of his downsides, time has proven that his damage potential even without proper set up is still better than everyone compared to his previous placement.
    • [W corp. L3 Cleanup Captain] Outis S+ > A - time has shown that her buffs are mediocre, and with her own damage in mind she is a sore in the eyes within her respective Tier
    • [Dieci Assoc. South Section 4] Rodion S+ > S - Rodion's tankiness and utility for sinking has overstayed its welcome especially with encounters after Canto 6 not favouring Sinking

In the endgame there are a lot of shifts, mainly drops, as power creep with the newest Identities makes older ones less appealing to use. The change to combat being focused on 7 Sinners on the field changes how certain teams operate, as teams are not as restrictive as they were before. The bar is constantly being raised with each new Identity release. Due to how big the list of those Identities that dropped is, we are gonna explain more of the reasoning for those that got a raise on the tier list. Dropped won’t be as extensive. First, those who got a raise:

  • [Heishou Pack - Si Branch] Gregor & [Heishou Pack - Si Branch] Rodion - S -> S+ - Release of Mao Faust and nerf of Talisman Sinclair made both Si even more useful, with not only more Deathrites to increase Mao Faust stacking speed, but also provides a bit more debuffs for Xichun Ishmael.
  • [The Barber of La Manchaland] Outis - S -> S+ - Damage modifiers and AoE on Skill 3 make her stand out from other S-tier Identities.
  • [LCE E.G.O::Lantern] Yi Sang - S -> S+ - Nerf to Talisman Sinclair made LCE Yi Sang a bit more appealing option to use
  • [Fanghunt Office Fixer] Hong Lu - B -> A (DPS → Status Specialist) - With the nerf of Talisman Sinclair, Rupture lacks in quick potency application, and this is where Fang Hunt Hong Lu comes in, providing what the team needs.

The drops below are caused by: Powercreep in damage (newer Identities have damage modifiers with which old Identities can’t compete against), bias against certain statuses (Sinking is constantly has to fight against enemies who benefit from negative Sanity or enemies being made specifically for newer Rupture Identities to work without favouring older ones):

  • [The Ring Pointillist Student] Yi Sang & [W Corp. L3 Cleanup Agent] Ryoshu - SS -> S+ - Lacks damage modifiers to compete with newer Identities.
  • [MultiCrack Office Rep] Faust - SS -> S+ - While can still perform very well, charge as a whole is lacking in comparison to other archetypes.
  • [The One Who Shall Grip] Sinclair, [Cinq South Section 4 Director] Sinclair & [W Corp. L3 Cleanup Agent] Don Quixote - S+ -> S - Lacks damage modifiers to compete with newer Identities.
  • [The Pequod Harpooner] Heathcliff - S+ -> S - While more allies and unbreakable coins would mean he can perform great, in reality, he is not providing much, especially with a lack of any decent self-sustain.
  • [District 20 Yurodivy] Hong Lu - S+ -> S - His damage rotation is quite slow to work around, and he is overreliant on his ego to perform well, and our tier list does not account for non-base EGOs.
  • [Devyat' Assoc. North Section 3] Rodion - S+ -> S - Si Rodion is a better Rupture option currently (talisman nerf biggest victim).
  • [Wuthering Heights Butler] Faust - S+ -> S - Sinking as a whole is not facing “favourable” enemies.
  • [Seven Assoc. South Section 4] Faust & [Seven Assoc. South Section 4] Heathcliff & [Cinq Assoc. West Section 3] Meursault - S -> A - There are better Identities for their archetype.
  • [Kurokumo Clan Wakashu] Hong Lu & [Kurokumo Clan Wakashu] Ryoshu- S -> A - Full Kurokumo team is in a rough spot, and it causes Identities, other than Kurokumo Heath and Ishmael, also to be put in a rough spot.
  • [Blade Lineage Salsu] Faust - S -> A - Her utility and damage leave a bit to be desired currently.
  • [Seven Association South Section 6] Ryoshu - S -> A - Her utility, while it can be good, is not needed.
  • [Dieci Assoc. South Section 4 Director] Meursault - S -> A - Lacklustre “utility”.
  • [LCCB Assistant Manager] Ishmael - S -> A - There are better Rupture Identities to work with, and her big application is not needed.
  • [Twinhook Pirates First Mate] Gregor - A -> B - His damage conditions are too hard to work around due to not so great Poise generation.
  • [Shi Association South Section 5] Ishmael - A -> B - Lacks damage modifiers to compete with newer Identities.
  • [Kurokumo Clan Wakashu] Rodion & [Kurokumo Clan Captain] Gregor- A -> B - Full Kurokumo team is in a rough spot, and it causes Identities, other than Kurokumo Heath and Ishmael, also to be put in a rough spot.
  • [R Corp. 4th Pack Rhino] Meursault & [W Corp. L2 Cleanup Agent] Meursault - A -> B - Lacklustre “utility”.
  • [Lobotomy E.G.O::Red Sheet] Sinclair - B -> D - Nerf made him horrible to use.
  • [N Corp. Mittelhammer] Don Quixote - B -> C - Lacklustre “utility”.

And we also have some drops in the Beginner category:

  • [Seven Association South Section 6] Ryoshu & [Seven Assoc. South Section 4] Faust - S -> A - There are better options for beginners.
  • [LCCB Assistant Manager] Ishmael - S -> A - Clunky to use.
  • [The Pequod Captain] Ishmael - S -> A - Most of her buffs are locked behind Uptie 4.
  • [Cinq Assoc. West Section 3] Meursault - S -> A - Lacklustre at Uptie 3.
  • [Liu Association South Section 6] Meursault - A ->B - Nowadays there are better Burn units.
  • [Cinq Assoc. South Section 5 Director] Don Quixote - B -> C - Not very impressive at Uptie 3.
