Review
Reindeer Hong Lu is a Charge-based DPS who dips his toes in the Sinking archetype.
Let us start by saying that Reindeer Hong Lu is not win-rate friendly, he requires some attention, otherwise friendly fire will happen. More about this will be covered under his Skill 2 - Mind Whip.
Skill 1 - Energy Strike - 2 Coins - Base roll 10 - Max roll 15 - The main way of gaining Charge Count for Hong Lu, which improves the longer the fight goes by gaining more Charge Potency. Other than that, it's not impressive in any way.
Skill 2 - Mind Whip - 4 Coins - Base roll 14 - Max roll 22 - The only charge-consuming skill for Hong Lu that can do very good damage, provided he does not have 5-9 Charge Count - on the occasion it has them, the skill will gain [Indiscriminate] and will target randomly when rolling Coins, causing SP loss due to Sinking infliction, unnecessary ally damage, or in the worst case scenario, Stagger. However, this can be prevented if Reindeer Hong Lu has 5+ Charge Potency. Due to this skill and its conditional, he might cause some issues while using the win-rate button.
Skill 3 - Concentration - 1 Coin - Base roll 18 - Max roll 32 - While it is a single Coin, this skill inflicts significant damage and provides him enough Charge Count to avoid friendly fire from Skill 2. Sadly as it is Skill 3, there is only a single copy in the skill pool, making its Charge Count generation rather unreliable.
Defensive Skill - Guard - Energy Condensation - Base roll 16 - Max roll 20 - Provides Hong Lu with 3 Charge Count on use and a small amount of shield. Not really an interesting defensive skill.
Like every pure charge identity starting with Multicrack Faust and Heathcliff, Hong Lu has a passive that provides him 1 Charge Potency when consuming a cumulative 10 Charge Count, allowing him to scale better in longer fights. Additionally, the more Charge Potency he has, the more damage and Sinking he will inflict.
While Reindeer Hong Lu has Sinking in his kit, he does not provide much for the Sinking team except kick-starting it with +4 Potency and Count from Skill 3. Outside of the Charge team, his early charge generation will not be that good meaning his passive won’t be fully active as fast for those extra Sinking inflictions, diminishing his usefulness in Sinking team.
[W Corp. L3 Cleanup Captain] Outis - Can help him ramp his Charge gain, especially in the early turns.
[MultiCrack Office Fixer] Heathcliff - The same as W Corp Outis, but works better for longer fights.
Dimension Shredder - This EGO’s passive allows R Corp Hong Lu to gain +1 Charge Count when hitting an enemy with a negative status effect, which is capped at 4. This greatly helps Hong Lu’s Charge Count gain and can get up to 4 Charge Count back after spending his Charge with S2. As a bonus, when R Corp Hong Lu falls to 0 HP, he will spend all Charge Count and heal in proportion to Charge Count spent.
Very good damage.
Synergizes well with other Charge-based IDs.
Can be a hindrance if you’re not paying attention, especially since there are two copies of Skill 2.
Without other help or early Skill 3, his early Charge Count gain is complete garbage.
Since there are two copies of Skill 2 you might brick your Skill slots more often, forcing a Defensive skill or an Indiscriminate usage when he lacks enough Charge Count.
