Introduction

Ulrich is a 6 rarity character from the Intellect afflatus who deals Reality damage and belongs to the Sub DPS class.

A Sub Carry on the level of a Damage Dealer, Ulrich ties with Lucy for damage while supplying considerable amount of Dynamo to feed into [Electric Field]. Utilizing his generally powerful buffs (both natively and through Electric Field), FUAs and high personal damage output (with minimal AP usage) he is able to fit into almost any team and, while in teams specifically for him, he can push past most characters in the game.

Ulrich’s kit is entirely made up of Channel incantations. His Insight and skills can also infuse Dynamo stacks into [Pulsing Field], a special Array that ranks up to Lv. 3 with enough Dynamo. This Array is the backbone of Dynamo teams and you want to keep it at Lv. 3 constantly. Plus, for every stack of Dynamo infused each turn, Ulrich gets stacks of [Decryption Key], which strengthens his active channels’ effects and stacks up to 10 times.

His first skill [Scanning Mode] makes him enter [Structure Analysis] for three rounds; if he’s already in that state, he gets 6 stacks of [Ceremonious: Ultimate Might] and infuses 5 Dynamo into the [Pulsing Field]. [Structure Analysis] inflicts DMG Taken Reduction -30% on all enemies at the start of the round, plus another -4% for every stack of [Decryption Key] (up to 10 stacks).

His second skill [Brown Noise] is very similar. He enters [Frequency Analysis] for three rounds unless he’s already channeling it, in which case he gets 6 stacks of [Ceremonious: Ultimate Might] and infuses 5 Dynamo into the [Pulsing Field]. [Frequency Analysis] grants +30% Ultimate Might to all allies at the start of the round, plus another +4% for every stack of [Decryption Key].

His ultimate [The Sum of Infinity] makes him enter [Hyper Analysis] and extends the durations of [Structure Analysis] and [Frequency Analysis] by 1 round. It also grants him 30 stacks of Dynamo, which he then immediately infuses into [Pulsing Field]. [Hyper Analysis] triggers a follow-up attack at the end of the round that deals a lot of damage to all enemies (even more damage if it has [Decryption Key]s).

At Insight I, Ulrich gains [Amplified Surge], a special effect that activates based on the level of [Pulsing Field]. When [Pulsing Field] reaches Lv. 3, Ulrich immediately gets 3 Moxie and all his active Channels get 5 [Decryption Key]s. While [Pulsing Field] is Lv. 3, entering his Channels also immediately applies 5 [Decryption Key]s each and his Ultimate deals more damage per [Decryption Key]. Insight I also allows him to deploy the [Pulsing Field] Array, gain 5 Dynamo at the end of the round, and infuse up to 15 Dynamo into the array. On top of that, he gets the ability to cast his follow-up attack [Surge Spike] at the end of the round and his Ultimate no longer counts against the Incantation Draw Limit. That’s a pretty lengthy Insight I!

His Insight III gives him his [Decryption Key] and Dynamo generation: for every Dynamo infused that turn he gets 1 [Decryption key and 5 stacks of Dynamo.

Overall, he’s a really great damage dealer who performs best with other Dynamo teammates, but he can also perform quite well on his own. His 3-round Channels make his AP rotations pretty flexible, especially if other characters are infusing Dynamo into the array every turn. His access to follow-up attacks through [Surge Spike] and [Hyper Analysis] mean he can work with the FUA package, too (and steal Flutterpage’s psychube). So, if you’re in the market for a powerhouse of a unit that you get for free, you should definitely build Ulrich.

Pros & Cons
Pros

  • Infuses a lot of [Dynamo] for the [Pulsing Field] array, which buffs allied Incantation Might, Ultimate Might, and DMG Bonus.

  • Reduces enemy DMG Taken Reduction, buffs Ultimate Might.

  • Can stack up lots of [Ceremonious: Ultimate Might] on himself.

  • Outputs a fantastic amount of damage.

  • Works perfectly with Euphoria Lucy and 3.0’s Charon.

  • Complete kit at P0.

  • Free in 2.8!

Cons

  • Works best with other Dynamo teammates, which requires Euphoria investment for Lucy and Ezra.

  • Backloaded damage due to [Pulsing Field] startup time.

On the Hand of Time is actually better for Ulrich than his signature if you have crit support. His ultimate is a follow-up attack and can trigger the 18–36% Critical DMG buff, so he can get 42–60% Critical DMG in total from this psychube. Since he's basically always channeling, he basically gets a permanent 14–28% Penetration Rate buff, too.

A Tingle of a Thought is Ulrich's signature psychube and it's excellent for him. 3–9% ATK is pretty good, 19.2–32% Critical DMG is fantastic, and the 16% Critical Rate substat is helpful if you don't have crit supports.

Balance, Please is a good alternative that works on a lot of different characters. 12–24% DMG Dealt against all afflatuses except Intelligence covers most battles, and all of Ulrich's damage benefits from its 18% Ultimate Might.

Transcendent Love is an ok substitution if you have it built. Ulrich can stack up the 8–16% Critical Rate and 8–16% Critical DMG no problem with his many channel incantations, and the 10% ATK increases his damage.

As both his ultimate and FUA are mass attacks, Ulrich can make use of Same Old Story's 12–28% DMG Dealt for mass attacks cast while channeling. The 18% Incantation only benefits his FUA, though, so you might be better off just using a generic 18% Ultimate Might psychube.

About the team

Oriented around keeping [Electric Field] at high levels through [Dynamo]. This team combines Lucy's generally strong attributes like [Data Iteration] and [Pragmatist] with Ulrich's surprisingly personal output and various Channel effects to blend debuffs and Ultimate Might buffs. This is all then added to by Charon's insane [Dynamo] generation while maintaining high personal output and debuffs allows you to swap Ezra out for someone like Medicine Pocket(E) for better offensive support with the Crit debuffs. While not recommended, other supports for this team could feature Melania(E) or Mercuria.
