While Hepler is in Altered Form, Remedial Class and Extra Credit are enhanced and have shorter cooldowns, but each costs 1 Spark stack to cast. When Hepler runs out of Spark stacks, he reverts to his True Form, dealing 230% + 35% damage to all enemies within 2tiles and blinding them for 5s.
Unlocks at level 51: Increases the damage dealt when entering Altered Form to 260% + 35%, and increases the damage dealt when reverting to True Form to 260% + 35%.
Unlocks at level 111: Increases the damage dealt when entering Altered Form to 290% + 35%, and increases the damage dealt when reverting to True Form to 290% + 35%.

Unlocks at level 71: While in True Form, increases the Haste reduction from Hepler's magic attack to 70. While in Altered Form, increases the damage of Hepler's powerful blow to 390% + 45%.

When a battle starts, Hepler protects the frontmost adjacent allied hero. The first time that ally would take a fatal blow, they instead ignore the damage. At the same time, Hepler heals the ally and grants them toughened skin for 5s, and transforms them into a small animal that runs toward the back of the battlefield. While in animal form, the ally becomes invincible for 3s.
Unlocks at Ex. Weapon +5: Increases the duration of healing and toughened skin granted by this skill to 7s.
Unlocks at Ex. Weapon +10: Hepler gains ATK equal to 30% of the protected ally's initial ATK, while that ally gains max HP equal to 40% of Hepler's initial HP. The ATK Hepler gains from this skill cannot exceed 80% of his own initial ATK.
Unlocks at Ex. Weapon +15: Increases the duration of healing and toughened skin granted by this skill to 9s.

Whenever Hepler spends Spark stacks, he and the protected ally permanently increase their Phys & Magic DEF by 6% and reduce their damage taken by 3%, stacking up to 10 times.

Review
Hepler is an S-Level Mauler Tank who introduces shapeshifting to AFK Journey. He is a hybrid hero who transitions from a backline student-teacher into a frontline Owlbear.
Hepler’s kit revolves around his Ultimate, Form Shift, which allows him to enter an Owlbear form. Hepler’s skills change function depending on which form he is in.
In his human form, Hepler’s skill does the following:
Remedial Class: Deals damage and applies a minor Haste buff to an enemy.
Extra Credit: Place a HoT on the lowest health ally that provides single-target healing and minor haste debuffs.
When he transforms, he gains Spark stacks and will consume them to cast more powerful skills with shorter cooldowns. Once he consumes all of his Spark stacks, he reverts to his human form.
In his Owlbear form, his skills do the following:
Remedial Class: Hits the target and nearby enemies, applying a short Stun.
Extra Credit: Place a HoT on several of the weakest allies and provide them with a shield.
His Ex Skill, Fur-ious Rescue, protects his frontmost adjacent ally, providing fatal-blow protection that causes the protected ally to retreat, heal and return to the fight. This is really where the majority of Hepler’s potential lies as, with proper positioning, he can project a wide variety of allies.
The biggest hurdle for Hepler is his reliance on his Ultimate to provide meaningful impact. Without starting energy or a way to quickly cycle through his forms, he’s basically a melee-range support trying to do multiple things that other heroes can do better.
Investment
Legendary+: Provides baseline damage reduction and additional damage reduction in Owlbear form.
Mythic+ (EX Weapon): Unlocks Fur-ious Rescue. This allows him to protect a frontline adjacent ally from death.
EX+5: Increases the duration of healing and toughened skin granted by Fur-ious Rescue by 2s.
EX+10: Grants Hepler 30% of his protected ally’s ATK and grants the protected ally 40% of Hepler’s HP.
EX+15: Increases the duration of healing and toughened skin granted by Fur-ious Rescue by 2s.
Supreme+: Provides Hepler and his protected ally with increased Phys & Magic DEF, as well as Damage Reduction whenever he consumes Spark stacks.
Performance in Various Game Modes
AFK Stages: He can be used if you desperately need Fatal Blow Immunity for a specific carry, but other heroes can also fill this role.
Dream Realm: Hepler is an easy skip. His ramp-up time is too slow, and his kit doesn't provide the damage or utility needed to compete with the best meta heroes in this mode.
PvP: This is where Hepler is best utilized. His ability to protect a front or backline DPS hero and then transform into a tanky, stunning Owlbear provides good stall potential. He can fit into a Supreme Arena team, though he will likely not find a spot in single-team PvP modes.
Conclusion
While the shapeshifting idea and owlbear form seem interesting, in practice, Hepler trails behind the top meta heroes. For most players, he is a skip. Only invest if you are looking for the Fatal Blow protection in multi-team PvP modes like Supreme Arena. If you’re lacking a Mauler Tank for the Faction Tower, he isn’t the worst option either.

Pros
Fur-ious Rescue is a powerful anti-burst tool that resets a teammate's health and position and can provide buffs with the EX+10 upgrade.
Can flex between a healer and a secondary tank/disrupter once transformed.
His Owlbear stuns and Human-form Blinds can disrupt enemy ability rotations.
Cons
Extremely vulnerable and low-impact before his first transformation.
His best skills require him to be adjacent to the frontline, putting him at high risk of being burst down.
In almost every niche, there is a specialized hero who does the same job better and more reliably.
