Towering Ruin

The boss of Towering Ruin, Carter Griff, is a battle of responsibility across all three roles. Carter Griff is the first boss with a hard healing check, a unique tank mechanic, High DPS requirements, and a need for strong overall team coordination.

Tips for Everyone

Dimensional Banishment

All players except the aggro target (your tank) will be banished to the “Imagination Dimension”. Players in the Imagination Dimension must defeat packs of dimensional monsters and suffer damage over time.

  • Save/Coordinate grouping abilities to gather enemies and AoE them down to clear this mechanic as fast as possible.
  • Collect the orbs dropped once slain to fill up an energy meter.

Difficult +: In the Imagination Dimension, the center area will emit waves of Engram Orbs, which will inflict Healing Block.

  • Aim your camera towards the center whilst fighting to better dodge these.
Dimension Rift

When the energy meter is full from the previous mechanic, four four-dimensional rifts will appear. However, only 1 rift is the correct exit and only your tank can see the proper exit.

  • Follow your tank, they will look like a hologram (see image).
  • Save your Resonance Ability “Phantom Dash” for faster map traversal.
  • Do not activate the portal until ready to trigger Dimensional Collapse with the rest of the party.
Dimensional Collapse

After everyone is closely adjacent to the correct Dimensional Rift, it should be activated. Then, after activation, the portal will spawn a protective dome around it, marking a safer zone - anything not in this zone will take lethal pulsing AoE damage.

  • Stay in the dome during this mechanic or risk dying.
Sky Crack

Carter Griff starts charging his Core in the center of the arena, becoming immune and summoning lasers on both sides of himself. These lasers empower the Core and cause large pulsing DMG to all players.

  • Block the lasers by standing in their way.
  • Share the damage from each beam equally, ensuring no player stays in one too long, as the damage ramps up the longer it is on the same target.

Difficult +: The Core also attacks periodically, spawning two massive ring-shaped AoE zones around itself.

  • Move to the safe area outside of the red while ensuring you’re still managing both beams.
Spinning Bombardment

Carter Griff will restrict the arena and begin firing circular explosions constantly at several members of the party in quick succession.

  • Dodge them while keeping up as much damage as possible.
Self-Destruct Bots

Multiple players will be targeted by Carter Griff, indicated by a large orange circle around them. They will spawn Self-Destruct bots that explode after a certain period and deal extremely high damage.

  • Marked players should spread out from each other but remain close by.
  • Once spawned, group up and defeat the bots to prevent them from self-destructing.
Stacked Explosion

Carter Griff targets a random player and marks them. After a short while, he will launch an explosion at them, which has its damage split between all characters within its radius.

  • Stack up the explosion on the tank and have the rest of the party move within its radius.
Pizza Explosion

Creates a large pizza-shaped explosion around most of the arena.

  • Move to the safe slice of pizza to avoid damage.

Tips for Tanks

Dimensional Banishment

As the tank, you’ll be left alone with the boss in the Reality Dimension rather than being banished with the other players. Once alone with Carter Griff, he will begin spinning violently towards you.

  • Lead him to the edge of the room and then in a circle around its perimeter using Phantom Dash and your Sprint to avoid his damaging abilities.
Dimensional Rift

Once your party has collected enough orbs (which can be tracked on the progress bar on the left of the screen), a single Dimensional Rift will spawn somewhere around the edge of the room. It can be close, but it can also be far away from your current location.

  • Immediately make your way as fast as possible toward this dimensional rift, as your party must follow you swiftly or die.
  • Do not activate the portal until ready to trigger Dimensional Collapse with the rest of the party.
Dimensional Collapse

After dimensional collapse, you must immediately re-establish aggro on the boss to force him to target you with his next ability (a tank buster) “Charged Laser”.

Charged Laser

Carter Griff will fixate on his target and charge a box shaped laser that will track until finished charging.

  • After the laser fires, quickly dodge to take no or minimal damage (The laser deals damage periodically as you stand in it).
  • Use tank cooldowns here to cover if you mess up and end up in the laser too long.

Tips for Healers

Dimensional Banishment

During Dimensional Banishment, the entire party will take tremendous damage.

  • Ready your AoE healing capabilities for this phase of the fight.
  • Watch out for allies that make the mistake of being hit by Engram orbs, as they will receive a healing Block.
Dimensional Rift

Once the correct Dimensional Rift has been identified and the group begins to move towards it, you must keep the party alive while also moving there yourself.

  • Prepare cooldowns for Dimensional Collapse.
  • Save cooldowns for this point of the fight.
Dimensional Collapse

After the rift is activated and the party re-united all allies will take incredible amounts of pulsing damage even while within the bubble of safety.

  • Use cooldowns to survive.
