Icy Quill
When Normal, Charged, and Plunging Attacks, Elemental Skills, and Elemental Bursts deal Cryo DMG to opponents, the DMG dealt is increased based on Shenhe's current ATK.

The Icy Quill's effects will be cleared once its duration ends or after being triggered a certain number of times. When held rather than pressed, the Icy Quill's effect lasts longer and can be triggered more times.
When one Cryo DMG instance strikes multiple opponents, the effect is triggered multiple times based on the number of opponents hit. The number of times the effect is triggered is calculated independently for each party member with the Icy Quill.

Short Kit Explanation

Shenhe is a 5-star Cryo Polearm character commonly played as a dedicated support for Cryo DPS compositions. Her kit is packed with dedicated buffs to enable these comps, boosting them with a combination of Quills, RES Shred, as well as additional DMG% bonuses from her Ascension Passives.

Her Elemental Skill first introduces her Icy Quills, increasing the damage dealt whenever a party member deals specifically Cryo DMG on a Normal, Charged, Plunge, Skill, or Burst where they are then consumed. The Quill damage scales based on Shenhe’s ATK, and if multiple enemies are hit simultaneously, a corresponding number of Quills is consumed.

There are two variants of her Elemental Skill, each with a few nuances:

The Tap variant deals Cryo DMG through a forward dash that pierces enemies, and every party member will get 5 Icy Quills for 10 seconds. Through her Ascension 4 Passive, Shenhe also grants them a 15% Elemental Skill and Burst DMG Bonus for the same 10 seconds.
The Hold variant instead deals slightly stronger and AoE Cryo DMG, and improves on the previous mechanics by granting 7 Icy Quills for 15 seconds. It similarly triggers her Ascension 4 effect, but the Hold variant instead buffs Normal, Charged, and Plunging Attack DMG by 15% and for 15 seconds.

Shenhe’s Elemental Burst then summons a Talisman Spirit that deals DMG on cast whilst also creating a field that lasts 12 seconds. The field deals two ticks of damage every 2 seconds for a total of 12 instances of damage, and these also consume her own Quills to contribute some small personal damage. More importantly, the field decreases the Cryo and Physical RES of all enemies within its radius, and the effect lasts the entire 12 seconds but lingers an additional 2 seconds.

To wrap things up, her 1st Ascension Passive grants the active character within her Burst’s field a 15% Cryo DMG Bonus.

How to Play

(Mechanics & Gameplay Loop)

Shenhe’s gameplay loop is straightforward: she uses her Elemental Skill followed by her Burst, and then swaps out of the field. The nuance comes from the optimal Skill variant to use, which depends heavily on her partnered Cryo DPS. Skirk, for instance, will generally prefer the Hold variant as she primarily uses Normal Attacks to deal damage.

There is then a unique case with Ayaka, as she can benefit from more than the 5/7 Quills that Shenhe provides. Because her burst continues dealing damage whilst off-field, Ayaka can swap back to Shenhe to cast a second Skill and even more total Quills.

It’s finally important to note that Icy Quills do not stack; in the case of Shenhe’s C1 (one of the possible free Constellations from the Temper Event) which unlocks 2 back to back Skills, using her Skill twice successively is done purely for stack generation, not to double the party’s Quill count.

In Skirk’s case who cannot swap off during her Skill’s state, casting two Skills on Shenhe is done purely for Energy generation and to provide both Ascension 4 buffs simultaneously (benefiting characters like Shenhe herself and Furina who can utilize Elemental Skill DMG%).
