Should You Pull? (TLDR)
- Yes
- Are you looking for a general Dynamo Carry (i.e. you don’t have Lucy)?
- Are you looking for a general Sub Carry (i.e. you don’t have Anjo)?
- Do you have Charon (or a standard Dynamo team)?
Review
Kind of a surprise Dynamo unit considering her disposition and role in the event.
Brume is on the complexer side compared to most units, and that primarily stems from the fact that she combines both buffing and damage in separate ways. Let’s skin her kit down and see what we’re working with:
- She is a Dynamo unit and has the Precognition associated with it (the standard [Pulsing Field] array set-up and funneling [Dynamo] at the end of the round). This gives us a few parameters to go off of: How does she interact with [Dynamo]? How quickly does she generate it and how well can she funnel it?
- The [Thermoelectric Conversion] buff is one that is spread all about her kit. This buff doesn’t do anything on it’s own, but it is gained and spent with almost every action she takes. In other words, the core of her kit lies in this buff.
Through her Insights we learn several things as well. As Insights are “passives”, they usually dictate how a character plays:
- At the start of the round, Brume gains stacks of [Thermoelectric Conversion]. She also gains stacks whenever allies funnel 20 stacks of [Dynamo], and for every few stacks of [Burn] on enemies. Lastly, for every 15 stacks of [Thermoelectric Conversion] gained, she grants +1 Moxie to herself.
- Upon entering combat, she gains [Crystalline Discharge] also. This buff boosts the damage of two casts called “Cost of the Roadside View” and “End of the Ride”, neither of which are cards you can just throw out. This means that we need to generate casts of these somehow through the rest of her kit.
- Finally, while under the effect of [Prismatic Power], whenever 40 stacks of [Thermoelectric Conversion] are consumed, Brume casts “End of the Ride”. Every additional 10 stacks consumed buffs this cast’s damage.
This is already a lot but tells us several things. Namely that we want to be in [Prismatic Power] as it gives us access to “End of the Ride” and gives us a reason to have [Crystalline Discharge] up. Now we look for further requirements, in particular: How do we upkeep [Prismatic Power], how do we consume [Thermoelectric Conversion] to get “End of the Ride” casts and how do we cycle [Crystalline Discharge]. For this we can turn to her incantations.
“Left-Hand Steering” seems to be the important one here. It is a Versatile card that can be used to cast either “Improvised Detour” or “Calculated Path”. Let’s see what both of those do:
- “Improvised Detour” is a single target attack that grants Brume [Crystalline Discharge] for 3 rounds, the buff we need to amp the damage of “Cost of the Roadside View” and “End of the Ride”. The idea here is then, to simply use this to upkeep that buff.
- “Calculated Path” is a channel that grants us stacks of [Thermoelectric Conversion] and causes Brume to enter [Prismatic Power] for 1 round. This is the important one, as it gives us access to those two key buffs that we need to amp the rest of her kit. In addition, [Prismatic Power] is a channel that will cause Brume to cast “Cost of the Roadside View” at the end of the round, consuming as many stacks of [Thermoelectric Conversion] as possible to do so. This gives us the last key to our base puzzle.
“Cost of the Roadside View” is a single-target attack that scales with the amount of [Thermoelectric Conversion] consumed. “End of the Ride” is a hard-hitting Mass attack. Both of these casts are locked behind being in the [Prismatic Power] channel and are in turn buffed by [Crystalline Discharge].
But she has other incantations too!
“Testing Flame” is a mass buff that grants Brume stacks of [Thermoelectric Conversion] while granting all allies [Truth Tempered] and inflicting [Disguise Dissolved] on all enemies. That first buff is a powerful DMG Bonus and Incantation Might buff while Mental DMG allies also get an additional Incantation and Ultimate Might amp to go along with it (allies carrying this buff also inflict stacks of [Disguise Dissolved] when attacking enemies). The debuff is stackable and shreds Critical RES and DEF from enemies.
Her Ultimate, “Heroic Feats Driven by Necessity” is the simplest part of her kit. It’s a powerful nuke that grants [Thermoelectric Conversion] and inflicts [Freeloader] on its target. This debuff causes the afflicted enemy to become the primary target for “Cost of the Roadside View”.
With the base explanation out of the way, we have a little room to actually talk about how good this character is. And she is just that, extremely good. Overpowered you might even say.
At her core, through [Crystalline Discharge] and consuming [Thermoelectric Conversion], the “Cost of the Roadside View” and “End of the Ride” Follow-Up Attacks she throws out already have a ridiculous base modifier.
Throw on top of that the fact that she is able to buff DMG Dealt, Incantation Might and Ultimate Might for her entire team while debuffing enemy Critical Resist and DEF covers just about every offensive (de)buffing option we have so far. This isn’t counting a [Pulsing Field LV.3] further amplifying the exact stats that she wants to buff.
Finally, she is just extremely consistent with her damage potential. She cycles those high damage casts extremely regularly and with relative ease. With all her buffing being [Status Pos]/[Neg Status] effects, she can additionally benefit from other regular buffs stacking on top of them, and she has no real limiting requirements in her kit like Lucy (FUA on kill) and Corvus (15+ rounds of stacking) do.
One negative to mention is that she really wants Charon, as he is the one unit capable of funneling large amounts of [Dynamo] to let her run her course. She’s generally flexible as a unit, but if not paired with Charon, she vastly prefers a standard Dynamo team to make up for it.
Gameplay
Okay, so how do we actually set this all up? Well, to note is that we gain [Crystalline Discharge] for 3 rounds upon entering combat, so we can hold off on casting “Improvised Detour” for at least the first pair of rounds. What then?
Let’s assume we can give 2 out of 4 AP to Brume per round, so we have two casts to work with for at least the first round. One of those HAS to be “Calculated Path”, as it sets up our [Prismatic Power] channel which starts our [Thermoelectric Conversion] consumption and with that it unlocks both our our important casts: “Cost of the Roadside View” and “End of the Ride”.
That means we can take that first AP to cast “Testing Flame” and set up [Truth Tempered] and [Disguise Dissolved] to maximize our damage.
From there, we’ll want to focus on optimizing our [Dynamo] funneling as that is the consistent way to gain [Thermoelectric Conversion] outside of our Basic Incantations. Every 3 rounds we’ll use “Improvised Detour” to cycle [Crystalline Discharge] and for the rest we’ll focus on making sure that the (de)buffs from “Testing Flame” don’t drop while spamming “Calculated Path” to keep channeling the [Prismatic Power].
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Probably the best Damage Dealer in the game. Forms the DPT ceiling at the time of writing this.
- Extremely smooth to play with very little limiting gimmicks.
- Is both powerful as a damage dealer and as a sub carry due to excellent buffs and debuffs.
Cons
- She really wants at least Charon.
Portrays
Brume is complete at Portrait 0.
Vertical investment is recommended if you have the funds but quite limited in scope as she’s already broken without them.
- Portrait 1 is the only recommended one. It directly buffs her two important casts as well as her [Thermoelectric Conversion] generation on top of her personal buffing.
- Portrait 4 is for those who really want to invest in her. It massively buffs the damage output of at least “End of the Ride”, further improving her damage capabilities.
Great Synergies
Brume synergizes with AP-positive characters and falls into the Dynamo category.
- Core: Charon
- Dynamo: Ulrich, Corvus, Lucy, Ezra Theodore(E1)
- Other: Flutterpage, Anjo Nala, Marsha
Psychubes

- Oh boy, another Dynamo character who wants On the Hand of Time! Most of Brume's damage comes from her FUAs, which trigger while she's channeling so she always gets the 14–28% Penetration Rate. Her high amount of [Cost of the Roadside View] attacks plus [End of the Ride] makes stacking up the 18–36% Critical DMG easy, and the innate 24% Critical DMG is always good.
- When you're running Brume on the same team as Corvus, you'll have to give On the Hand of Time to her and use Her Willful Leap on Brume instead. Corvus benefits from the team-wide +16% DMG Bonus, and Brume's FUAs scale well with this psychube's 24% Ultimate Might and 16% Critical Rate.
- Brume's frequent [Cost of the Roadside View] attacks can stack up Outside the City's 20–50% Critical DMG and 8–12% Critical Rate relatively quickly, and the innate 16% Critical Rate is nice too.
- Luxurious Leisure is a classic 1-target Ult-oriented psychube that offers 18% Ultimate Might and a solid 15–27% DMG Bonus. Performs better in long fights that allow you to set up.

Teams
A few suggestions are listed below. 3-People teams are highlighted, with the 4th slot added at the side to provide a 4-P variation of the same team or even insights on possible variations of the 3-P team.
Standard Teams
Thomas the TANK Engine[GLB]
TEAM EXPLANATION
- 4th slot options: Charon
- Euphorias: Anjo Nala
- At the time of writing this, this team forms the DPT ceiling of Reverse: 1999.
- Brume’s egregious damage output twitch “Cost of the Roadside View” and “End of the Ride” are further amplified by literally everything in this team. Anjo Nala provides her enhanced [Bind] through her Euphoria and synergizes by adding control and Follow-Up damage through her kit. In addition, with her now AP-free Ultimate casts, she removes the need for Brume to use it, allowing Brume to focus on upkeeping her own buffs without issue.
- Charon is here to support [Pulsing Field]. Though it requires more management with only 2 [Dynamo] units, you’re able to time the majority of Brume’s damage under its higher levels which covers those bases. Of course, [Fear of Death] and [Peaceful Soul] should not be slept on, while his AP-positive playstyle gives room for Brume and Anjo Nala to act.
- Fatutu is the on-the-nose option here. If there’s Follow-Ups being thrown, and powerful ones at that, you’d best believe that [Spirit Shell] is there to bring that final bit of optimization to its damage output. Between Brume, Anjo Nala and even Charon (in his channel), the team also feeds enough Follow-Ups to make cycling Fatutu’s Ultimate not much of an issue.
- Other useful supports that can flex into this team are:
- Ulrich to create a standard Dynamo line-up, forgoing the need to time Brume’s damage (i.e. more comfy to play) at the cost of lower overall damage.
- Corvus if you want to slot Brume into the Sub Carry slot. In which case you’d move Fatutu out for Vila as you’re not really looking at Brume’s damage here.
- General supports like Mercuria and Lopera do function, but don’t meet the expectations of the full team.
- When teambuilding, focus around a Brume + Charon core. If you don’t have Charon, run a standard Dynamo team with units such as Ulrich, Corvus, Lucy or Ezra Theodore.
