Brutus is a Mauler Warrior focused on stalling enemies long enough to give your team time to ramp up.

His second skill, Indomitable, grants him with Invincibility and Immunity for 5 seconds after taking a fatal blow (6 seconds at Supreme+), making him a strong frontliner  even when focused on by enemies. His Ultimate, Whirlwind Wrath, deals AoE damage and makes him Invincible for 4 seconds. However, its Invincibility doesn't stack with Indomitable, so sometimes, the timing of these two skills will decide if Brutus gets to live longer or not.

As for his other skill, Ferocious Roar, taunts enemies within 2 tiles and lowers their Physical DEF, forcing them to target him instead of his allies. At Mythic+, taking Physical damage 10 times triggers Cleaving Strike which hits adjacent enemies with bonus damage based on their max HP and heals Brutus through Life Drain on a 5 second cooldown. At EX+10, this cooldown will be removed.

Now, for a quick overview of his performance in the various game modes:

  • Story and AFK stages - Brutus is a reliable frontline unit even at Base, especially early on. He remains useful in high-deficit stages where enemies can burst down your frontline quickly, giving your allies time to ramp up.

  • Dream Realm - Brutus is rarely used here, as his main value for this mode, which is his Physical DEF shred, is better handled by others such as Kruger who provides higher Physical DEF shred.

  • PVP - He can be used as a meat shield in general, and as a Physical debuffer. Sometimes used in Bruiser teams as frontline but not the first pick for the role.

Conclusion

Brutus may not be the best frontliner for every situation, but he fills niche situations where stalling is viable or even crucial.

You can use him effectively even at Base, relying on Indomitable to buy time for your team. For better durability outside of that skill, consider investing up to Supreme+, which adds an extra second to Indomitable and provides more stats to increase his survivability.

Guides

EX Investment

Since the

Temporal Essence
Temporal Essence
and
Twilight Essence
Twilight Essence
are very hard to obtain, you have to be really careful with the using them to upgrade the EX weapon. And in this guide we ordered all characters by the priority when it comes to how much they need investment in their EX weapon to work well and where should you stop to get the best bang for your buck.

Color explanation:

  • +X - where every character starts,
  • +X - the next step that you should do when investing into that character - for some characters this will be enough,
  • +X - the final step you should do when investing into that character - you can go beyond that later though once you have the Essences to spare.
