Rotation & How to Play
Spec Overview
Skyward can fly with many of their abilities, launching themselves airborne, and others causing them to crash down to earth. Skyward is the most technical Spec in the game, having to manage three resources, multiple cooldowns, and the complexities of aerial and grounded combat all at once. Gameplay simplified boils down to building and spending the Chasing Step and Sharp Stack resources on its finisher (Instant Edge) without running out of Courage (Wind Knights' energy resource).
Skyward also needs a substantial amount of Crit Rate and most of its endgame talents to function, but once it gets going, and when played well is incredibly strong and satisfying to play.
Pros
- Strong damage output when played correctly.
- Can avoid many mechanics while in the air.
- You can fly!
Cons
- Needs high Crit & endgame Talents to function well.
- Can become stranded airborne when mistakes are made.
- Precise gameplay is not auto-friendly.
Note
These recommendations assume you have Level 140/150 Set Gear and a Level 150 Relic Weapon.
Pieces marked in Orange will be your recommended stats if you use Set pieces. Purple lines are only applicable for non-set gear. Additionally, the Relic weapons will not have Purple Lines or Reforges.
Stat Tuning
We only need one reforge stat in Haste to reach the target of 1114 Haste; all other reforges should go into Crit. Versatility and Mastery hold equal value, so we will aim for the same number of substat rolls for both.

Pieces marked in Orange will be your recommended stats if you use Set pieces. Purple lines are only applicable for non-set gear. Additionally, the Relic weapons will not have Purple Lines or Reforges.
Stat Tuning
Our main focus is to have 45-50% crit and more than 32% Attack speed, reachable with this much amount of haste. Then we will try to balance Versatility and Mastery that hold almost equal value.

Sharp Stacks - Our primary resources required to use our most powerful ability, Instant Edge. Building and spending Sharp Stacks is the majority of our rotation. Also grants massive ATK% as long as you have at least 1 Sharp Stack.

Courage - Our other core resource that is needed to activate Skyfall to generate Sharp stacks. Recovers at a rate of 3 per second baseline but can be significantly improved through cooldowns and talents.

Chasing Step - A talent-based resource generated when critically striking with Skyfall. It can stack up to 2 times and can be consumed by Instant Edge to buff its damage. Consuming stacks also significantly helps our rotation with endgame talent nodes.
Fixed Skills
- - Wind Knight’s basic attack is an ability we won't be using in endgame if possible. Optimal Skyward rotations have enough resources and cooldowns to constantly use better abilitiesWindborne Grace
![Imagine]()
- Skyfall - Launches us skyward, quickly followed by a diving strike, only to re-launch us airborne once again. Our only Courage spender and primary Sharp generator, making it the backbone of our rotation. As Skyfall finishes with our character in the sky, it must be combo’d with either itself to keep diving or another ability to avoid falling through the air.
- - Our Ultimate hits all enemies around us, knocking them airborne while also restoring 100 Courage. Only used during our optimal rotations when running out of Courage to continue using Skyfall or when allocating the Battle Cry talent.Typhoon Cleave
![Imagine]()
- Gains a second use with an alternative effect after activating the Battle Cry talent.
Mandatory Skills
- - Deals a small hit of damage, offers a % Increased Strength and +Flat Strength buff while also improving our Courage generation from 3 per second to 10 for its duration. It has two charges, is our main cooldown, and a mainstay of our burst rotation, making it one of our most important abilities.Galeform
also interacts with many of our talents.Galeform![Imagine]()
- - Falcon Toss deals damage and generates 1 Sharp on use. WhileFalcon Toss
isn’t usually used, the temporary evolution it turns into with talents, Azure Sever, is, and is a vital part of our combo.Falcon Toss![Imagine]()
- Can become Azure Sever temporarily with the talent “Sharp Long Breath” which, unlike , is a vital part of our combo as it recovers 3 Sharp Stacks on use.Falcon Toss
![Imagine]()
- - Our primary Sharp Stack spender and highest damage ability that launches us into the air if not airborne already or brings us crashing down with a slam if we are. Requires 2 Sharp Stacks to use normally, but one of our best talents increases its damage in exchange for making it cost 3.Instant Edge
functions slightly differently depending on whether it is used in the air or on the ground. The key thing to know is:Instant Edge![Imagine]()
- Airborne: Is faster to use, hits once, and deals less damage.
- Grounded: Is slower to use, hits twice, and deals more damage.
- - We dash up into the air and slam down onto the target for some damage. At base, it is underwhelming, but with endgame talents becomes a vital part of our burst rotation thanks to it becoming an incredible DPS boost. Has no cooldown and instead uses a charge system where each use needs 100% and each Sharp Stack consumed generates 5% baseline.Sharp Impact

- Overclock Wave: Releases an energy wave, interrupting all targets within 5m.
- Provides us with an interrupt to stop elites from casting annoying skills and interrupt some raid and dungeon boss mechanics.
- Unyielding Spirit: Grants 35% additional Resistance for 5s. This skill can store 2 charges.
- A great defensive option to use when we know we will take a big hit.
- Master of Stealth: Conceals the caster's presence to prevent Aggro generation and cleanses all debuffs from the caster for 10s.
- A good tool to use when the tank is pulling enemies in a dungeon to avoid drawing aggro to yourself.
- Energy Reflux: Instantly recovers 50% Stamina and increases Movement Speed by 15% for 5s.
- A good tool for situations when you need to dodge often or chase after high movement enemies.

Gameplay Altering Talents
Most of our talents just help us do what we’re already planning on doing better, but some have a drastic impact on our itemization and rotation. Below is an outline of all the gameplay-altering effects you need to be aware of in the Skyward spec and Base Wind Knight talents.
Base Wind Knight Tree
- Sharp - Forms the backbone of our Sharp Stack generation through our Skyfall spamming which when combined with our main spender , forms the base of our rotation.Instant Edge
![Imagine]()
Skyward Tree
- Skyward Spec - The very first Skyward Talent grants us the Skyfall skill, but also makes it so that whenever we have any Sharp Stacks (even one), we’ll be considered to have maximum for the purpose of its attack buff. In the endgame, we possess 6 Sharp Stacks, meaning this is a minimum of 36% increased ATK for most of our rotation (6% per stack).
- Wind Fury, Sharp Long Breath and Tornado Dance - The Wind Fury Talent causes Sharp Impact to now grant the Wind Furydamage buff for 15 seconds - a buff that is key to most of our best talents.
- With “Sharp Long Breath” allocated, Wind Fury transforms into Azure Sever once. Azure Sever is a hard-hitting ability that generates 3 Sharp Stacks. This ability is key to our burst rotation.Falcon Toss
![Imagine]()
- With Tornado Dance Active, while Wind Fury persists, using and Azure Sever will spawn Tornados, which continually deal damage. Tornados make up a massive portion of our DPS. You can have three at once. Each Tornado lasts 3 seconds and can hit each target up to once per second for its listed ATK%. Azure Sever and AirborneInstant Edge
spawn 1 tornado while GroundedInstant Edge
spawns 2.Instant Edge![Imagine]()
- Chasing Step, Sharp Advancement, Sharp Pursuit, Pursuit Power and Instantaneous Crit - All these talents unlock and upgrade the Chasing Step resource. Chasing Step is gained by critting with Skyfall. One stack can be consumed per activation to enhance its damage and effects.Instant Edge
![Imagine]()
- With all nodes unlocked, Chasing Step increases DMG by 30%, causesInstant Edge
to generate doubleInstant Edge
Charge, applies a stacking Strength Buff, refunds one stack of Sharp on use, and also doubles the Crit Chance of the ability used with it.Sharp Impact![Imagine]()
- Sharp Impact also gains a lot (but not all) of the bonuses of Chasing Step, but unlike does not consume stacks on use, making using it with Chasing Step active pure upside.Instant Edge
![Imagine]()
- Air Dance Strike - Improves the Courage generation of the after usingGaleform
by 50%. Also causesSharp Impact
to generate 3 Sharp Stacks on use. This talent is crucial for the start of our rotation.Sharp Impact![Imagine]()
- This Talent increases the Sharp Stack generation of the talent-based Typhoon: Sharp Impact to 6.
- Typhoon: Sharp Impact - Evolves , causing it to deal more damage but, more importantly, gain double value from the Air Dance Striketalent, causing it to generate 6 Sharp Stacks instead of 3.Sharp Impact
![Imagine]()
- Momentum Surge - Improves our Sharp buff from 6% ATK to 7% with a further 1% increase per enemy within 5 meters of us up to a cap of 10%. In single target, this is a minimum of 8% per stack for 48% ATK or 60% in AoE. A 12 - 24% ATK boost for most of our rotation.
Player Choice Talents
- Battle Cry: Adds a second activation to our ultimate, which can be used first to grant a teamwide +10% Haste buff, 1 Sharp Stack every 2 seconds, and 10 Courage per second, all for 10 seconds. Your teammates will love you, you’ll gain additional Courage generation to smooth out downtime, all while still having your normal Ultimate there to recover your Courage fully if needed.
- You must activate your normal Ultimate within 15 seconds of using the talent-based Ultimate, or it will be wasted and revert to being on cooldown.
- Instant Edge Combo: Drastically improves the value of Luck for Skyward. gains a chance to deal its damage again equal to our Luck% chance, but the additional damage is equal to the original multiplier x our Lucky Strike DMG Multiplier%, meaning it will either hit harder than the original when our multiplier is over 100% or less when it is below. This talent sounds great on paper, but it still isn’t considered by most to be enough of an incentive to build Luck on Skyward. If you do want to build it, though, it’s a high-priority pick.Instant Edge
![Imagine]()
- Sharp Echo: Can be picked up for a small damage boost if you have 1 point left over.
- Wind Swirl Strike: A generic damage boost for Tornados, which is one of our biggest damage sources, but comes at the cost of 3 points

Main Stats
- Crit Rate - Skyward’s most important stat to stack, as it provides damage but is also the only means of acquiring Chasing Step, a vital resource for our rotation. Without Chasing Step, we cannot loop our burst rotation as effectively, and will have to extend our rotation with weaker hitting abilities instead. Crit Rate also has its value doubled when Chasing Step is active when using Instant Edge and Sharp Impact, making it even stronger, but this also introduces a 50% soft cap for Crit in the spec, though.
- Stat Goal: We recommend aiming for at least 40% Crit for relatively consistent Chasing Step access; more than this will further boost smoothness.
- Haste - Wind Knights have a potent 1.6%:1% Haste to ATK SPD% conversion thanks to their base talent Swift, making it a strong stat despite not being “thumbs up”. Haste doesn’t offer any special interactions in our kit, but it will accelerate our rotation, allowing more abilities to be used within our buff timings.
- Stat Goal: Shooting for a starting goal of 20% haste to execute basic rotations within Windfury and Galeform's duration smoothly.
- Mastery - Our mastery grants us Wind DMG% at a rate of 0.65% DMG per 1% Mastery. Wind DMG% is a rare multiplier for us, making it nice to have after acquiring sufficient Crit and a great amount of Haste, but not a must-chase stat.
- Versatility - This stat is always beneficial as it provides an extra multiplicative boost on top of all other DMG increases. Stats suffer diminishing returns, so a small amount of versatility is recommended.
- Luck - A controversial stat, as it is recommended in-game as a “thumbs up” stat. However, it does not scale as well as expected because of several reasons:
- Lucky Hits work best on multi-hit abilities, but Skyward abilities are mostly single-hit abilities.
- Our highest hit frequency ability, our Tornados, depressingly cannot Lucky Hit at all.
- We only have three Luck scaling talents, one of which is underwhelming. The other 2, while good, struggle to make up for all other shortfalls.
- This stat scales better when choosing the Instant Edge Combo talent, but still falls behind other stats. You’ll be forced into some luck on set gear and your class weapon, but it’s currently not recommended to build any outside of this.
Bonus Stats
In gear slots you’re not using Set Gear in and which aren’t taken up by your class's signature Class weapon (if you have it), prioritize the following Purple Stats:
Helmet, Armour, Gloves, Boots
Strength%
Weapons & Accessories
ATK SPD% > Melee DMG% = DMG% vs. Bosses = ATK%
Set Gear
Skyward’s 2P set bonus is definitely worth equipping as soon as you’re able to complete Raids and is better than Purple Bonuses. The 4P, on the other hand, isn’t quite as strong and is more comparable to purple damage bonuses. Here is what they do:
2-piece SET
Triggering a Lucky Strike reduces the remaining CD on Galeform by 0.2s (counts only once when multiple Lucky Strikes are triggered at the same time). While Galeform is active, casting Galeform again will immediately grant you the Courage to be recovered from the previous Galeform (doing this can trigger the talent "Tempestrike").
4-Piece SET
After casting Galeform, the next Skyfall and Instant Edge gain Wind DMG +70%.
Class weapon
Our Class Weapon, unfortunately, has Luck scaling, which isn’t too useful for us currently. It's still usable over standard weapons with purple stats due to its higher item level, but sadly isn’t as impactful as other classes' weapons. Instead of a purple stat, it grants:
- 20% Lucky Strike DMG Multiplier
- Increased stats.
Note!
The percentage value shows the impact of the module compared to not having any module equipped (each module is calculated based on it being +6).
Here are the best modules for Wind Knight - Skyward - listed in priority order:
Lvl 3: +0.86%
Lvl 6: +7.59%

This module provides Strength and Defense Ignore. The Defense Ignore stat, in particular, is incredibly rare, making this a very impactful choice.
Lvl 3: +0.42%
Lvl 6: +6.70%

CRIT DMG is a powerful stat, but having one portion of this module's stats be defensive holds it back.
Lvl 3: +0.86%
Lvl 6: +6.18%

A great module for damage, since we are often fighting at least one Elite or higher-level enemy. Not active outside of Elites/Bosses.
Lvl 3: +0.66%
Lvl 6: +5.74%

Falls behind our top three options due to the large quantity of Haste we are assuming, but still a reasonable choice and with a higher value if having less haste compared to other options.
Lvl 3: +0.52%
Lvl 6: +4.34%

Providing Agility that is not needed and General Physical Damage. Still making this a generally good option.
Lvl 3: +0.86%
Lvl 6: +3.22%

It provides Adaptive attack and main stats while also providing Elemental Damage for our Special attacks, making it a good general choice.
Lvl 3: +0.42%
Lvl 6: +1.93%

It provides Luck DMG Multiplier, but since the majority of our abilities can’t Lucky Hit, it's not a good option.

Universal
- - This imagine is one of the best DPS imagines that we can ask for, providing a 10% damage boost during her active and a stacking 1.2% bonus added to that multiplier based on hits done up to 5 times. Those buffs last essentially for 35s due to the extension properties this imagine has, providing essentially a 16% final multiplier that is very strong and makes this imagine the best overall on every DPS. Additionally, this imagine provides 1% lifesteal for proccing Life Wave and has 2 charges, making it have an almost perfect uptime on burst windows.Rorola
![Imagine]()
- - Similarly to Rorola, it has an extension mechanism and double activation, making it already strong just for these features. Additionally, during activation it provides 8% ATK and 1% more up to 5 times for every Special Cast. Once at max stacks, it also provides ATK Speed and Cast Speed, making the rotation smoother as well, making this a solid option.Boyce

Top Gold Imagines
- - Muku Chief provides passive +%CRIT DMG alongside a powerful active ability that grants even more +%CRIT DMG as well as +Flat Crit Rate. Furthermore, it has two charges, allowing superior uptime compared to other Imagines. Chief not only boosts our damage but also boosts the consistency of our combo as well.Muku Chief
![Imagine]()
- - It provides Flat Luck and luck bonus every 15s for 3 abilities and during his activation every 5s enhancing our Luck and the damage one. During the activation the lucky hits general explosions and deals additional damage. Even without the perfect uptime it provides a very strong buff and it’s the second best option.Flamehorn
![Imagine]()
- - Goblin King summons a semi-random amount and selection of Goblins to attack and buff us. The buffs include bonuses to ATK%, Wind DMG%, -Enemy DEF, Strength%, and Luck bonuses. This combined with King’s passive Versatility, makes him a strong choice, but his randomness and the fact that Luck is underperforming for us mean he isn’t our best.Goblin King
![Imagine]()
- - Haste is a powerful stat for this Spec as we want to fit in as many abilities as possible during our Wind Fury and Galeform buff uptimes. The combination of massive passive +Flat Haste in addition to a +%Haste bonus on use assists with this goal greatly.Celestial Flier
![Imagine]()
Top Purple Imagines
- - Storm Goblin Warrior is the generic Wind DMG% Imagine, granting 7.5% passive Wind DMG% and a further 16% on use. Due to a lack of this bonus in our kit, this Imagine performs extremely similarly to Muku Scout, being only a fraction behind in DPS but does not need to be stacked with our slow attacks in the case of boss downtime.Storm Goblin Warrior [A5]
![Imagine]()
- - Muku Scout 5 grants us a passive 15% ATK, provided we are consistently hitting attacks. Upon activation, it doubles the stacks, giving a tremendous 30% ATK buff, amplifying the entirety of our damage. A generic, accessible, and exceptionally strong option. However, due to the imagine commonly dropping off due to boss downtime or traveling, it is less recommended than Storm Goblin Warrior.Muku Scout [A5]
![Imagine]()
- - Providing a large amount of Haste flat with his passive and Haste% when active, enchanting our mastery scaling making this image stronger than the Celestial Flier till the second Advancement.Emerald Caprahorn [A5]
![Imagine]()
- - Poriving Crit damage that fluctuates, averaging it out at 15% CRIT DMG. With this active it provides additional CRIT DMG and Crit points based on the “Cabbage series” emblem embed we are using. Making this one of the best alternative due to the large uptime and strengthGloomy Cabbage [A5]
![Imagine]()
- - Our Strength% boosting Imagine, offering 10% passively and a further 20% temporarily on use. This is a strong stat for our Spec, but we already have several Strength% buffs in our kit and talent tree that dilute the Imagine’s buff potency.Jungle Goblin Warrior [A5]

Class
| Name | Description (Lvl 10) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 1 Galeform | Galeform duration +4s | Extending the duration of our buff allows for us to stack it more easily. |
| 2 Tornado | Tornado can trigger Lucky Strike; Tornado Dream DMG +8.8% | With the ability of Tornado to Lucky hit, and that reducing our Galeform CD, this is a strong choice. |
| 3 Azure Sever | Azure Sever always triggers Crit; Dream DMG of Azure Sever +19.4% | A strong buff to a high damaging skill. |
Polarity (Offensive)
| Name | Description (Lvl 10) | Notes |

| 2 Expertise Skill | Expertise Skill Dream DMG +7% | Our main damaging abilities are all Expertise. |
| 3 All Element | A good damage boost. |
Stasis (Defensive)
| Name | Description (Lvl 10) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Wind Knight Stasis X1 | During Galeform, Dream Resistance +8% | An excellent defensive option that gives us damage reduction during our buff ability. |
| 1 HP Stack | If no damage is taken for 8s, Max HP +3.5% for the next 10s, stacking up to 3 times | Allows us to proc Life Wave in moments where we aren’t getting hit. |
| 2 Damage Reduction | When incoming damage exceeds current HP, that damage is reduced by 35% (up to once every 30s) | Helps with survivability. |
| 3 Max HP | Max HP +6000; Max HP +1.5% | Contributes towards our small HP pool. |
Fantasia Impact: Every 20 Lucky Strikes trigger Fantasia Impact, up to once every 10s. Each Lucky Strike triggered reduces the internal CD of Fantasia Impact by 0.35s.
- Fantasia Impact: (Luck Effect) Deal Dmg equal to 1250% ATK to enemies within 3m.
- Split Nodes: Linkage -> Time-Step -> Class DEF -> Dual -> Chrono Elixir
This Psychoscope is one of our best options and is what led us to stack Luck over Crit in Season 2. We select our Time Step and Dual nodes to increase the damage of Fantasia Impact. The internal CD is negligible since our hit frequency is often enough to lower it during our burst anyway.
Culinary
- Painfly - Grants Elite/Boss DMG% as well as a strong amount of ATK, making it the superior choice.
- Meatfish Skewer - More ATK than Painfly, but without the Elite/Boss DMG%, it is less powerful.
Alchemy
- Wind Serum - The best and only choice for our Alchemy consumable when aiming for maximum damage.
- Crit - The The best choice while building toward 40%+ Crit.
- Haste - For making you reach the Attack Speed needs in case.
Rotation & How to Play
The reality of Skyward is that it has no “set” rotation due to Crit RNG dictating how many Chasing Steps we get, gear changing how fast abilities can be used, and Courage generation changing depending on available cooldowns and the state of combat. With that said, it’s far easier to understand how the spec plays by reading and modifying a set rotation compared to learning every trick in the book all at once.
Below is a heavily optimized endgame burst rotation that assumes all cooldowns are available and aims to execute as many
