Beginner Guide
There’s a lot to do when you first start an account. Here are some of the big things to keep in mind to ensure you have the best start to the game possible. You should also read the Basic Training Strategy guide. The gacha can’t cover everything for you in this game, you’ll need to put some effort into learning how to play and will be rewarded with much stronger Umas for doing so.
You can find the Basic Training Strategy here:
Rerolling
Support cards are the measure of an account’s power in Umamusume. Starting with a powerful support card will give you a very strong start to the game, and rerolling is very fast.
Ideally, you wait for a banner with a Speed card, then reroll until you get two or three copies of it. Then, play the game to gather the rest of the Carats you need to do 200 total pulls on the banner, which will let you get another copy.
There are also banners with free pulls that make this process even easier.
To help gather the Carats needed, you can win every graded race once. When going to the optional race screen, if there’s a grayed-out trophy in the top right, you haven’t won that race. Each one you win for the first time gives you Carats, and clearing them all out will result in several thousand Carats.
Resources
Support Points / Monies
Early on, resources are quite tight. You can’t afford to level up all your cards and umas right away. Focus on leveling up the Speed cards you take on runs first and foremost. Having a few maxed out cards will be better than having a lot of half-leveled cards.
Carats
Like in most gachas, it’s usually better to save. Cards are much stronger at max limit break, and you need to pity the banner twice for a good chance at that, which takes 60,000 Carats. Umamusume also does not carry over pity between banners.
But, early on, you should do 30-50 rolls on Umas to collect the 1 and 2 star Umas. You can use them to fill out your Team Trials team, and each one you win a run with will also provide Carats as a sort of refund.
After this, start saving up jewels for either umas you like, or better support cards. Ideally, you shouldn’t pull without a spark ready (30,000 Carats) to guarantee an Uma, or two sparks (60,000 Carats) when going for cards.
Club Points
You should join a Club as soon as possible. Request shoes each day and give the other club members the shoes they’re asking for. This will get you club points.
You can then use these points to exchange for extra copies of the main story SSR cards. McQueen is the most important, as she’s a good Stamina card that gives a very useful skill for Long distance races. After getting her to 3LB, you can start upgrading the others according to what card types you need the most.
You get additional points for people borrowing your uma to use as a parent in their runs, up to 100 per day. If you have a second device, you can make a new account on it, add yourself as a friend, and borrow your own uma three times. Quit the run as soon as possible each time. Then, delete the account, make a new one, and repeat until you’ve borrowed ten times total.
Doing this is quite a bit of effort, but will double your Club Points income, which is valuable while you’re still working on limit breaking the cards.
Friend Points
You gain a good chunk of Friend Points weekly from Team Trials and can spend them in the Friend Point shop.
The
On anniversaries, they will usually have a special Friend Point shop open where you can buy things like gacha pulls and other useful items. Keep a stash of Friend Points around in preparation for those and otherwise just use them when you need something there.
Selectors
At the start of the game, you’ll get a ticket you can redeem for any of the starting 3* Umas. The beginner missions also reward you with a ticket that gives you a random 3* Uma. Save your selector until you use that random ticket, to avoid the chance of getting a duplicate.
The best Uma to pick is the one you like the most. But, in terms of meta, it goes like this:
Depending on when you started, you may also have an SSR selector available. Generally the best choice is to always use these on Super Creek, but if you started the game by rerolling on a rerun and only got the card to 3LB, you could use the selector to get it up to MLB.
Find Friends
There’s a database of Umamusume players here where you can find people with specific parents: Database
Friendship doesn’t need to be mutual in Umamusume. If you add someone, you can immediately use their card and umas without them adding you back.
You should find some good friends as soon as possible, as it will make your Legacy umas better. Here are the basic ones to search out:
- Sprint - 9* Power blues with 7+* Sprint pinks.
- Mile/Dirt - 9* Stamina blues with 7+* Mile pinks.
- Medium - 9* Stamina blues with 7+* Medium pinks.
- Long - 9* Stamina or Speed blues with 7+* Long pinks.
- Someone with the Super Creek card at MLB. Borrow it for Medium and Long.
- Someone with the Kitasan Black card at MLB. Borrow it for everything else.
When using these powerful parents, you will make parents of your own with them as grandparents. Compared to your starting parents, they can result in getting +50 more stats per run, for free.
Any uma you train that results in a 3* Blue, or a 2* Blue and 3* Pink, should be marked as a strong parent. Click the carrot icon in the top left of their stat screen to lock them so you don’t accidentally sell them.
