Review
Please keep in mind Wuthering Waves is a skill-based game and each character has a different playstyle, difficulty level and even special tricks and combos. Wuthering Waves is also a team based game and it's only by combining both these factors to the highest level a character can reach optimal performance.
High single-target and AoE damage output, up to par with the rest of modern 3.x characters;
Has the ability to chase down airborne enemies with relative ease - rotation can stay consistent across a wide variety of boss encounters;
Easiest DPS rotation in the game’s history - just hold left click for the majority of the time; the rotation practically completes itself.
One of the more restrictive modern characters when it comes to teambuilding. Needs either Denia+Mornye specifically, or Lynae + a strong premium support. Otherwise, will fall behind significantly compared to all modern DPS characters in the game;
Low sequence value compared to modern standards; for comparison purposes, sequence nodes give lower increases than Carlotta across the board;
“Here at Wuthering Waves, we strive to deliver an interactive gameplay experience to all players.”
Qingxiao is a 5-star Aero Sword DPS character who plays into the Tune Strain archetype and mostly fights in mid-air, which makes her very reminiscent of the other Tune Strain DPS, Luuk Herssen, in that sense. Not only that, they share teammates and have a similar meta position, so they are overall quite easy to compare to each other. However, their playstyles differ drastically, so let’s cover her kit in more depth:
Qingxiao’s rotation goal is to enter her “Ephemeral Transcendence” state to cast a special Heavy Attack called Heaven’s Reckoning that deals a ton of damage. Her main damage-dealing moves are her Ultimate, Heaven’s Reckoning, her base form Heavy Attack that allows her to enter her enhanced state, as well as her Outro. The idea is to chain those as quickly together as possible to complete a rotation.
To do this, Basic Attacks will mostly be used, as well as a Skill called Severing Note: Judgement. The overwhelming majority of her rotation following an Intro can be simply completed by holding the Basic Attack down - you only change this up two times to cast her Skill and her Ultimate. That’s all. Her gameplay doesn’t get easier than this.
Qingxiao’s main mechanic is Tune Strain. Whenever she deals damage to an enemy once, she applies 1 stack of Tune Strain, which is converted into extra total damage to that target based on the amount of stacks when Tune Break Skills are cast. Having teammates that can apply extra stacks and cause faster Tune Break Skill casts to actually benefit from the stacks of Tune Strain applied on the enemy will prove key to increasing her overall damage output, particularly considering her Mindlock mechanic that amplifies damage of the overwhelming majority of her attacks based on the amount of Tune Strain applied on targets (7% for the first 7 stacks, 2% for the next 8, for a total of 65% possible DMG amplification).
Additionally, she gains Interruption Immunity and 60% DMG taken reduction for 1 attack after her Intro or her base Heavy Attack, inflicts additional Mindlock on every base Heavy Attack (3 stacks) and when other characters apply Tune Strain (1 stack), and can apply Mindlock stats in multi-wave content.
Lastly, in terms of Quickswap restrictions, Qingxiao should be free to build her Forte resources to cast her initial Stringblade Heavy Attack before entering her Enhanced State, at which point the enhancements on her Heaven’s Reckoning Heavy Attack (extremely significant damage increases) get removed if you swap, so switching characters upon entering her enhanced state is discouraged. So building up to the initial Heavy Attack quicker by pre-building Forte resources is as optimized as you can go.
Overall, Qingxiao is at the top of the single-target metagame on her release, and it seems her Denia+Mornye team, which is her on-release best in slot, is there to stay as her intended best team. This means Qingxiao and Luuk share ideal teammates, so you have to privilege one or the other. And it’s a no-brainer who to pick if you have a Tune Strain team - Qingxiao’s base damage is simply higher, so she’s a stronger character overall. In the Aero department however, Luuk has been known to face issues in Whimpering Wastes and he shares a playstyle with Qingxiao, being mid-air combat and Tune Strain. Sigrika on the other hand, Qingxiao’s rival in the Aero Main DPS department, has some of the best results of any DPS in Whimpering Wastes as of Qingxiao’s release. This calls into question Qingxiao’s value across endgame modes, although she remains generally more than usable in Whimpering Wastes and has higher performance in single-target modes like ToA and Matrix overall.
Additionally, Qingxiao has a pretty significant reliance on either owning Denia and Mornye together specifically (trying to use Denia without Mornye results in major team DPS drop-offs, so there are no alternatives), or owning Lynae (at which point you can make do with ideally Mornye, but Ciaccona and Shorekeeper are fine enough alternatives as well). This, paired with a decent desire for her Signature weapon, makes Qingxiao quite the expensive character to get up and running.
In conclusion, Qingxiao is an extremely strong pick provided you have enough invested in her and her team. While she does face some subpar performance in multi-wave content compared to some of her peers, she is not hindered too hard and still manages to perform enough to clear easily with Denia’s help for grouping in Whimpering Wastes, for example. She is without a doubt up to par in terms of damage ceiling with her late-3.x version peers and is hence one of the best DPS characters currently.

The percentages show the performance of the weapon based on calculations, but in some cases, some weapons might provide additional QOL that can't be quantified and it would push that weapon ahead of others in the priority (and in those cases, we would put that weapon higher).

Simple 20% CRIT DMG increase compared to the standard Aero DMG set Sierra Gale. Provides the same 40% total Aero DMG on the 5-piece alongside 20% CRIT DMG on the condition that Tune Strain can be applied - a condition Qingxiao instantly and easily fulfills.
Below you can find Main Echo options:
Substats: Energy Regen (Until Satisfied) > CRIT Rate = CRIT DMG > ATK% > ATK > Heavy/Liberation/Basic DMG%
All recommended endgame stats portray a fairly good quality endgame build as a goal to aim for on most characters. However, don’t treat this as an end-all-be-all, and more of a suggestion.
All stat recommendations are given at S0 for 5-stars, S6 for 4-stars, and free characters (unless specified otherwise), based on total stats in the in-game stat-screen with the character out of combat but also active in the party (and hence some buffs may or may not apply). Any other precision may be directly specified. If not specified, Energy Regen requirements are estimated in the character’s best team.
HP: 14500+
DEF: 1100+
ATK: 2100-2400+
CRIT Rate: 55-80%+
CRIT DMG: 255-275%+ (before Echo set bonuses)
Energy Regen: 110-115%+
Lower end was estimated in a team with Denia+Mornye/Lynae+Ciaccona, higher end was estimated in a team with Lynae+Mornye.
Aero DMG Bonus: 40-70%+

Intro and Skill can be skipped when levelling to save on resources at a minimal damage loss.
Gameplay and teams
Qingxiao is likely the simplest Main DPS character to pilot in the history of the game: inputs-wise, you only need to hold Basic Attack for a while, press Skill, hold Basic Attack again for a while, press Ultimate, Echo and Outro. That’s it. Transcripted into proper ability names, the whole combo looks like this:
Ideally used right before her Outro after her Ultimate (Swap Cancel it to optimize rotation time).
Intro
Heavy: Stringblade Mid-air 1
Heavy: Stringblade Mid-air 2
Heavy: Stringblade Mid-air 3
Heavy: Stringblade Basic 3
Heavy: Stringblade Basic 4
Skill: Judgement
Heavy: Stringblade
Heavy: Transcendence 1
Heavy: Transcendence 2
Heavy: Transcendence 3
Heavy: Transcendence 4
Heavy: Heaven's Reckoning
Ultimate
Outro
Overall, the rotation executes itself by holding left click for the overwhelming majority of it, so it’s near-impossible to mess up. Clicking without holding on some of her abilities towards the end of her rotation is, however, recommended in multi-wave content to not use her Heavy: Heaven’s Reckoning without enemies to take its damage.
It’s possible to build up Forte resources to work towards Heavy: Stringblade before her Intro in more quickswap-friendly compositions; however, Qingxiao doesn’t ideally play in team compositions with a lot of quickswap flexibility. This may result in minimal rotation time savings, or fast Opener rotations that allow you to cast 5 fully buffed Ultimates in 2 minutes. Additionally, depending on your weapon choice and combat length, you may use her Ultimate later or earlier in her rotation at your discretion. Keep in mind it’s used at the latest point possible in the above example because you get to stack up her Signature Weapon’s passive to the max before unleashing it.
