Spec Overview

Introduction

Shield… Shield Knight entirely revolves around the Lightforged Barrier passive and abilities that generate and consume it. Lightforged Barrier can stack many times and increases max HP with every stack. It’s also used to fuel one of the spec's most powerful abilities, Zeal Crusade - a spiraling aura that persists and deals damage while healing for its duration.

The Shield in Shield Shield Knight comes from the fact that shields in Blue Protocol: Star Resonance cap based on max HP, so with Lightforged Barrier active, this Spec can have by far the biggest max shields. Furthermore, its mastery boosts the Lightforged Barriers buff even further. Shield Shield Knight has good healing but can also survive big hits thanks to its superior max life and shield size. Ironically, its shield generation is weaker than the recovery spec, despite having a higher cap.

Resources
Guides

Holy Sigil - Holy Sigils are our main resource; we have 5 of them and what we use to cast our core abilities - Vanguard Strike and Sacred Blade, which require 3 and 1 Holy Sigil to use, respectively. After a Holy Sigil is used, it goes on cooldown for 10 seconds, with each Sigil having its own separate cooldown. Many of our talents and stats focus heavily on reducing Sigil cooldown and granting them back to us for free.

Guides

Photon Energy - Our energy bar resource, which is used solely to cast our most powerful self-healing ability, Judgement. We can hold up to 100 (120 with talents) Photon energy at a time and primarily gain it through using Holy Sigil spenders. For every 1 Holy Sigil an ability costs, it grants 10 Photon energy; an ability that costs three will therefore grant 30.

Guides

Lightforged Barrier - Lightforged Barrier is a buff stackable up to 10 times baseline, which lasts 25s and grants us 2% increased max HP per stack. Getting hit will reduce our stacks by 1, but gaining any stack amount will refresh its duration. The HP increase from this buff is a true final multiplier, meaning it multiplies other sources of HP% increase and flat HP, and it can be massively enhanced thanks to our mastery. This buff is also used as fuel for many of our best abilities, making it the heart and soul of our kit.

Guides

Radiant Shield - While technically not a resource, another one of our main mechanics is Radiant Shield. Many of our talents and some of our abilities will grant us this with varying degrees of scaling. The common theme among all sources of this thought is that we gain a shield based on our ATK, which blocks 50% of incoming damage, with the other 50% hitting our HP. We can accumulate a shield equal to our maximum HP (200,000 HP = 200,000 maximum potential shield).

Note

There is extreme synergy between Lightforge Barrier and Radiant Shield as the larger our total life pool, the larger our maximum shield max becomes. Despite being a “shield” does not scale with the %increase shield stat. However, it scales with the shielding improvement from Versatility.

Skills Explained
Fixed Skills
  • Imagine
    Blade of Justice
    - Our Basic Attack is a 4-part melee sequence which we won't really be using unless no other abilities are available.
    • This ability can be enhanced, evolving into Condemn when certain talents trigger.
  • Vanguard Strike - Consumes 1 Holy Sigil to deal damage and generate 2 stacks of Lightforged Barrier. Also generates an extra 2 Photon energy per enemy it hits, up to a max of 10.
    • This ability can be enhanced, evolving into Vanguard Hunt when certain talents trigger.
  • Imagine
    Radiant Infusion
    - Our Ultimate deals AoE damage around us and Dazzles enemies, forcing them to move toward us, which is fantastic for fishing in ranged enemies into melee so they can be cleaved. Upon use also grants us 1 Holy Sigil and 10 Photon Energy every 2 seconds for 10 seconds, prioritizing Sigils with the longest cooldown remaining. During this period, you’ll be able to spam Holy Sigil spenders and use
    Imagine
    Judgment
liberally for fantastic sustain. Finally, this ability also grants us a massive personal shield, and with talents, is also capable of deploying a shield that may benefit our party members as well!
Mandatory Skills
  • Imagine
    Judgment
    - Our only Photon Energy spender and the signature ability of both Shield Knight specs. Consumes 45 Photon energy on use to deal AoE damage and heal us based on the amount of HP we’re currently missing. At max Advancement, this heal is 40% of missing HP, meaning at half HP we can recover 20% of our total life pool with one cast. This also has a minimum healing effect of 5%, even when we’re close to maximum life. This ability allows us to be our own healer and is so accessible that you’ll have no problem spamming it constantly.
    • Although you’ll gain plenty of Photon Energy, it can be a good idea to hold enough in reserve to cast Judgment on demand in emergencies.
  • Imagine
    Sacred Blade
Consumes 3 Holy Sigils to impale enemies with a giant light sword, dealing damage in a small AoE while generating 5 stacks of Lightforged Barrier.
  • Imagine
    Zeal Crusade
    - Consumes up to 8 Lightforged Barrier Stacks to summon a holy aura for up to 16 seconds, with the duration being determined based on stacks consumed (2 sec per stack). This aura deals damage to all enemies around us frequently, heals us by 1% max HP per enemy hit up to a max of 5% and also restores 1 Lightforged Barrier every pulse. We always want to wait until possessing 8 Lightforged Barrier before using this ability and want it active for as long and consistently as possible.
    • The pulse speed scales with attack speed.
  • Imagine
    Radiance
    - Hurl five shields toward nearby enemies (max 1 shield per enemy), interrupting them and taunting them on hit. Then, for the next 10s fire an additional shield every 2 seconds and reduce incoming damage by a % of your max HP while also automatically countering red flash boss abilities as well. Each shield that lands also generates 10 photon energy. This ability has a 70-second cooldown and is our main defensive tool to use either as an opener in combat or to save for when things get rough.
    • The damage reduction from this ability scaling off of our HP further incentivises the stacking of Mastery.

Talents

Best Talents
Important!

Embedded is our recommended core max-level Shield talent tree containing all the specs' top talents.

Gameplay Altering Talents:

Below is an outline of all the gameplay-altering effects you need to be aware of in the Shield spec.

Base Shield Knight Tree
  • Condemn and Condemn Time Limit - When using
    Imagine
    Judgment
, we gain a 30% chance to evolve our basic attack into Condemn, which deals increased damage and immediately resets the highest CD Sigil.
  • Lightforged Body and Lightforged Continuum - Every time we consume a Holy Sigil or spend photon energy, we gain Radiant Shield based on our ATK. Our only source of talent-based shield generation on Shield Shield Knight, but one we can scale heavily by investing into ATK and Haste.
  • Haste Sigil - Improves our Sigil Cooldown recovery time by 1% per 1% haste we have, making haste one of our best stats for cycling abilities faster in order to generate more shields.
    • Tip: The way the cooldown reduction works is like this 10 / (1 + Haste %)
  • Ring of Judgment - Our
    Imagine
    Judgment
    now deploys a free
    Imagine
    Divine Circle
    every 30 seconds on use.
    Imagine
    Divine Circle
is a circular zone that deals damage to enemies and heals allies that stand within it for ~12 seconds. As this is a skill, we can boost its performance by advancing and levelling it in the skill menu. Also, every time we spend a Sigil, the cooldown on
    Imagine
    Judgment
’s free deploy is reduced by 1.
Shield Tree
  • Resolved to Return - Reduces the cooldown of our major defensive ability,
    Imagine
    Radiance
, by 1 second every time a Lightforged Barrier is consumed or deducted, reducing its total cooldown dramatically, especially in fights we’ll be taking many hits in. A must-have talent,.
  • Bold Fearless and Conquest Pursuit - These talents both evolve our Spec-specific special Vanguard Strike into Vanguard Hunt - a stronger attack that heals us for a % of our max life and grants us the Indomitable Courage buff for 10s. Indomitable Courage grants us +3% Haste and is stackable up to 10 times for an absurd 30% bonus. Conquest Pursuit enables Vanguard Hunt for the entire duration of
    Imagine
    Zeal Crusade
, and Bold and Fearless gives
    Imagine
    Sacred Blade
    and
    Imagine
    Judgment
a 25% chance to transform it.
  • Divine Circle Chant - Doubles the value of Haste in the Haste Sigil formula, granting us 2% cooldown recovery per 1% Haste instead - turbo charging Haste's value even more.
  • Zeal Haste - For every 15 Photon energy we spend,
    Imagine
    Zeal Crusade
s' cooldown is reduced by 1 second. Our goal is maximum
    Imagine
    Zeal Crusade
uptime, so anything that reduces its cooldown is a must. Further incentivises us to build up Photon energy and spam
    Imagine
    Judgment
    as fast as possible.
  • Wide Raid - Doubles the radius of
    Imagine
    Zeal Crusade
, and while it’s active doubles the effect of the Indomitable Courage buff to a completely unreal +60%!
  • Ruthless Rewind - Our strongest damage source by far outdamages all of our real abilities. This talent causes us to generate a “charge” every time we consume a Holy Sigil during
    Imagine
    Zeal Crusade
. Once at 3 charges, we produce a burst of damage, hitting all enemies around us equal to 6% of our max HP. Just one more reason to stack as much haste and mastery as possible to maximize damage and frequency of this talent.
    • This talent cannot Crit or Lucky Hit and is considered normal damage not Light.
Noteworthy Leftovers
  • Ultimate Conquest - This is a talent we would love to get to maximize damage, as it increases the damage of
    Imagine
    Zeal Crusade
by 50%. You can drop some defensive talents elsewhere to pick it up, or forgo it as the damage increase while nice, isn’t a game changer - especially on single target.

Haste

Mastery

Versatility

Main Stats
  1. Mastery - Our Mastery grants us 3% increased effect of Lightforged Barrier and 0.2% elemental resistance per 1% mastery. The increase to Lightforged Barrier is a straight-up multiplier to its effect, meaning if you have 10% Mastery, you’ll gain 30% increased effect, improving it from 2% increased HP per stack to 2.6%. Shield is all about max HP stacking, making improving that ability a complete no-brainer - mastery is without a doubt one of our best stats, more HP and free resistance!
  2. Haste - Haste is one of our best stats by far, and despite the fact that we get so much already is still excellent to stack. The more Haste we have, the better our shield generation frequency and uptime on Zeal Crusade and Radiance get. Haste also improves the tick rate of Zeal Crusade, increasing damage. Thi,s combined with the fact that we gain double value cooldown recovery on our Sigils from it as well, is enough for it to be a 5/5
    • 2230 haste is a good starting point, resulting in 33% haste. This leads to sigils always having a 6s cooldown; however, more haste is still highly recommended.
  3. Versatility - This provides us with a multiplier to our damage dealt, additional shielding, healing, and damage reduction, making it a great stat for us in every way. While Mastery and Haste remain our best stats, Versatility should not be neglected. Due to how diminishing returns work, you always want some mastery and never zero. When Haste or Mastery aren’t available in a gear slot, make sure that stat is Versatility. You can also optionally swap out one or two stats of mastery/haste for versatility as well if it’s too low.
  4. Crit Rate - Shielding and one of our major damage sources, Ruthless Rewind cannot Crit; this stat also has no synergy with any of our abilities or talents. All this on top of the fact that our other stat options are so insane that building Crit is something you want to avoid.
  5. Luck - Like Crit this stat is not good for us and has no synergy with our talents or abilities; we recommend avoiding it.
Bonus Stats

In gear slots you’re not using Set Gear in and which aren’t taken up by your class's signature Class weapon (if you have it), prioritize the following Purple Stats:

Helmet, Armour, Gloves, Boots

Strength%

Weapons & Accessories

All Element Resistance = Armor >= ATK SPD% > Max HP

Set Gear

Shield Spec 2P set bonus is definitely worth equipping as soon as you’re able to complete Raids, and is better than Purple Bonuses. The 4P, on the other hand, isn’t quite as strong but still good to have. Here is what they do:

2-piece SET

When you have more than one Lightforged Barrier, DMG taken -2%, when you lose a Lightforged Barrier, there is a 50% chance to reduce DMG taken by an additional 1% for 6s, stacking up to 3 times.

4-Piece SET

Each Lightforged Barrier increases your DMG by 1%. When the number of Lightforged Barriers drops below 6, there is a 50% chance to generate 1 or 2 Lightforged Barriers when taking DMG.

Class weapon

Our Class Weapon, unfortunately, has Melee DMG% as its special stat, which isn’t that useful for us. However, it’s still an upgrade thanks to the higher stats of Haste and Mastery it provides over purple bonuses. Instead of a purple stat, it grants:

  • 8% Melee Damage%.
  • Increased stats.
Best Modules

Here are the best modules for Shield Knight - Shield - listed in priority order:

  1. Resistance
    Resistance

  3. Attack SPD
    Attack SPD
    - Grants us up to 6% ATK SPD to further accelerate our rotations speed and help us churn through our Holy Sigils and photon energy. Also has ATK to boost our shielding output.
  4. Strength Boost
    Strength Boost
    - The combination of strength and ATK boost overall shielding output while granting us some bonus armor. These stats, in combination with some Armor penetration, also boost our damage.
Best Battle Imagines
Attention!

The best Shield Imagines are incredibly flexible with what’s best depending on the content you’re running and the Imagines your other support party members are using. Below is a guideline of what we recommend for different content types. Also, tank-based Imagines have some of the most unique effects in the game, often meaning they don’t have direct equivalents. Because of this, there is no exact F2P substitution; check out our purple Imagine listing for more info.

Airona

Top Gold Imagines
  • Imagine
    Airona
    - When cast, summons Airona who performs a short prayer before reviving up to 4 downed teammates. Airona is powerful in standard play to resurrect teammates, but also has another use. By equipping our invulnerability, we can survive guaranteed raid wipe mechanics; therefore, the group can forgo completing these, we can invuln them, then use Airona to bring the team back. Incredibly highly valued to have on tanks for raids.
  • Imagine
    Tempest Ogre
    - Upon activation, Tempest Ogre generates a vortex that draws enemies in from a large distance away. Its passive also makes the user take 5% less damage, making this a great option for tanking in dungeons. Tempest Ogres' pull radius is frankly absurd, allowing you to group entire rooms in dungeons, boosting clear times a disgusting amount.
  • Imagine
    Frost Ogre
    - Frost Ogre deals some of the highest resilience break damage in the game on use, allowing us to break enemies far more quickly. Breaking bosses before major mechanics or before they leave the arena can be a huge benefit to the party’s overall damage. Also incredibly effective at controlling large packs of enemies.
  • Imagine
    Golden Juggernaut
    - Grants a 30% HP shield to you and your allies on use at Advancement 0. Allies shielded by this effect also deal additional damage with their hits. Golden Jug offers great offensive and defensive capabilities, serving as a good “oh shit” button while also improving the party's damage somewhat.
    • The additional hit granted to allies can Crit and Lucky Hit, has a 0.5 second cooldown, and is unique, meaning only one of these buffs can be held at a time
    • The 8% Shield increase does not scale our Radiant Shield and the 30% HP Shield on use is separate from it as well allowing of a theoretical max shield of 130% of HP.
  • Imagine
    Tina
    - Tina buffs the party with a 50% cooldown reduction for 20 seconds, and once a party member is affected by this effect, they can’t be affected again for 60 seconds (Advancement 0). Tina is considered the best Imagine for support roles due to her buff, allowing classes to go back into their burst window more quickly.
    • While powerful, Tina is usually best run on sustains. You should only prioritize running it over tank choices if they don’t have it or you’re confident in coordinating up and downtimes.
Top Purple Imagines
  • Imagine
    Brigand Guard Captain [A5]
    - Grants a passive 12.5% Endurance and an additional 20% on use, massively boosting our HP. Plus, the next 9 times we’re attacked, we instantly recover 20% of our missing HP. This is an incredibly good option when handling groups of enemies to recover HP quickly. Not as uniquely powerful as most of our gold imagine choices, but an outstanding F2P accessible choice to fill in blanks in your build.
  • Imagine
    Void Arachnocrab [A5]
    - After receiving 10 hits, increases Armor by 1125 for 15s. Upon use, it transforms you into Void Arachnocrab and grants invincibility for 5s. This is a great option to gain additional armor and also an invulnerability without changing out one of your skill slots.
    • This Imagine can become one of our best when aiming to cheese certain boss mechanics, especially in combination with Airona
  • Imagine
    Mighty Colossus [A5]
    - Transform into Mighty Colossus and charge at the enemy, dealing more resilience damage the longer you charge. Mighty Colossus also passively increases Resilience Break Efficiency and is a good alternative to Frost Ogre if you’re aiming to break enemies often and don’t have him yet.
Best Consumables
Culinary
  • Wanderfruit juice / Astelpot Feast - Grants Endurance, which gives us more HP to scale our shields, damage, and healing.
  • Buttermelt Roast / Shroomfish Stew - Provides a bit of armor, but the real focus is the 5% damage reduction from elites or bosses, making it a potentially better choice when maximum survivability is needed.
Alchemy
  • Elemental Drops - If you know the elemental damage type you’re likely to be up against, you can use Elemental Drops to boost your elemental resistance against it. This is the best approach to boost tankiness.
  • Light Serum - When elemental drops aren’t needed or optimal to use, our damage can be boosted with this instead.
Best Gems
Important

Both Haste and Mastery are valid choices for Shield Shield Knight, with both being strong in their own way. Going all in on Mastery will improve max HP scaling and tankiness while going for Haste boosts rotation speed, shielding frequency, and improve cooldown uptime. Which is better for you depends on your circumstances; you can also go for a 50/50 split.

  • Sapphire - Strength (Haste)
  • Emerald - Strength (Mastery)

Rotation & How to Play

How To Play

Shield Shield Knight’s “Rotation” or gameplay rather boils down to maintaining Zeal Crusade for as long as possible while also establishing and maintaining the Indomitable Courage buff at the same time as keeping Sigils on cooldown at all times and ensuring Photon energy never caps out. Just by doing this, you can expect to be at maximum Lightforged Stacks most of the time.

Auto Viability
Can Shield be played on auto?

As a tank, Autoplay will never be ideal due to the loss of control it incurs, but with that said, if that’s not an issue for you, Auto can play Shield Shield knight fairly well, with the exception of the fact that it doesn’t prioritize building stacks of Indomitable Courage early on in the rotation.
