Gearing System
For in-depth details about how Gears work in Blue Protocol: Star Resonance, check out our Gearing System guide here:
Upgrading Gear
The NPC Maxim will feature all Gear upgrading mechanics, from reforging to refining and embedding. He will also let you dismantle old gear, allowing you to reuse old resources for your freshly farmed gear.
Reforge & Perfection

Reforge is the first gear upgrade system, and will enhance the Perfection level of your equipment. You must consume Reforge stones - obtainable through various game modes, including Dungeons - to upgrade the Perfection score.
When upgrading the Perfection of a piece, it is directly linked to that piece and cannot be transferred to another. However, the Dismantle function will allow you to recuperate most of your Reforge stones.
Lastly, the Reforge system also unlocks a third random but re-rollable Advanced Attribute on every item slot. It follows all the same rules of the items' usual Advanced Attributes, but offers far fewer stats and can be changed randomly by spending Reforge Stones to change it. When reaching the Perfection cap, you may spend additional Reforge stones past the cap to search for your desired stat on this final line.
Embedding & Sigils
Each Gear piece can accommodate one Sigil via the embed system. Each sigil adds additional attributes to a piece of gear. Sigils have different levels and rarities, with higher ones yielding increased stats and bonuses.
Embedding a Sigil into a gear piece costs

When embedding sigils into gear you’ll notice an “Advanced” option in the embedding interface. At this point, you’ll have a chance to upgrade sigils you embed up to 2 levels higher, improving their stats significantly. This method costs additional
Refining
Finally, we have the Refine system, which allows you to upgrade each of your gear slots. These upgrades are not tied to the item but to the slot that the item occupies. This means any upgrade to that slot will persist even if you change the gear any number of times.
Refining a gear slot will cause it to grant you stats; the stats you gain are dependent on the gear slot refined.
- Helmet, Armor, Gauntlets, Boots, Bracelet L/R
- Stamina + Refined Armor
- Weapon, Earrings, Necklace, Ring, Charm
- Refined ATK
Each of these stats is powerful and absolutely something you’ll want, but Refined ATK specifically holds very high value. You can see how Refined ATK interacts with damage in our Damage Formula Guide.

Every Refine level requires an increasing amount of resources; different gear slots also need different materials. Each refinement will require:
- Starforge Crystals (Limited Availability)
- The Correct “Mystic Metal”
- Bound Luno

Tip
We suggest buying all the Starforge Crystals possible early on, as it is a rare, limited and highly demanded resource.
At low Refinement levels, the success chance of each upgrade will be 100%, but starting from Level 5 → 6, the chance will start decreasing. The higher the level you reach, the greater the penalty for success. E.g. when refining from Level 13 → 14, the success chance is only 65%.
Failing a refinement will waste all resources involved; fortunately, there is a way around this with the Blessing system. By inserting “Buri Mech Shards” and/or “Moss Mech Shards”, you may increase your refinement success chance back to 100% eliminating failure.
Tip
Mech shards are craftable by players, while Starforge Crystals are not. We recommend relying on Mech shards to guarantee refinements instead of gambling.

Gear Breakthrough
Gear Breakthrough is a new system added in Season 2 for further enhancing your gear by allowing you to increase the gear’s level. This system is accessed from Emissary Cassie, the same NPC in the Artisan Guild where we can create our Relic weapons and get our raid gear.

Players can use Dreamer’s Stardust to upgrade lvl 140 gear to 150, or Weaver’s Stardust to increase level 160 gear to 170. Both of these materials, once available, can be obtained from the Honor Coin shop or from completing raids.
Modules
Modules are an endgame gearing system that grant incredibly powerful set bonuses when assembled correctly. While included in gearing they are far more complex than systems covered so far, because of this they have their own dedicated guide you can check out.
Phantom Factors
Phantom Factors are a part of the Season 2 Dream system, and they affect your class skills and character stats. There are a variety of combinations that are possible with these, so they also have a dedicated guide. To find out which Phantom Factors are recommended for your class, check out the class guides!
