Introduction
Performance Profile

ST Damage [5/5]

AoE Damage [1/5]

AP Efficiency [3/5]

Utility [1/5]

Renoa is a single-target specialist whose kit revolves around generating Dirge Bullets, which trigger an Extra Attack when discarded by other cards or at the end of the turn. Most of her cards either focus on generating Dirge Bullets or dealing additional damage when Dirge Bullets are in hand or the discard pile. Her gameplay requires setup time for generating Dirge Bullets, card management, and planning in order to unleash her hardest-hitting attacks at the right time.

Pros & Cons
Pros

  • Great single-target and burst damage output.

  • Powerful personal damage scaling from Dirge Bullets.

  • Has a few exceptionally strong gameplay-changing Epiphanies.

  • Launches many Multi-Hits and Extra Attacks that scale well with Morale.

Cons

  • No AoE Cards.

  • Can clog the deck with Dirge Bullets if not careful.

  • Timing Ego Skill alongside Dirge Bullet generation and correct payoff cards requires some effort.

Ratings

The ratings below are based on the Basin of Hyperspace Dimensional Twilight game mode and the Chaos Manifestation mode. Each of the modes values different mechanics, so some characters may shine in one of the, while being underwhelming in the other.

Dirge Bullet

Attack
Attack

[Bullet][Exhaust]

160% damage.
When moved to Discard, 80% Extra Attack on a random enemy.

Show Effects

  • Dirge Bullets: Renoa’s whole kit revolves around generating Dirge Bullets, her own signature Bullet type that triggers a 80% damage Extra Attack when discarded. When played from hand, Dirge Bullets deal 160% and are exhausted. Many of her attacks deal more damage if Dirge Bullets are in hand or in the Discard Pile. Being able to either play Dirge Bullets directly or discard them (either through active Discard effects or the end-of-turn Discard) lends Renoa a degree of adaptability and AP flexibility.

Black Thorn

Move all Dirge Bullet from Draw Pile and Graveyard to hand.
300% damage.

Show Effects

Black Thorn

Consumes 4 EP, draws all Dirge Bullets from the Draw Pile and Graveyard, and deals 300% damage on use. Renoa’s most powerful setup tool, but one that requires a solid amount of Dirge Bullets to already be present in the deck. Synergizes well with cards that scale off of the number of Dirge Bullets in hand, like Last-Ditch Assault and Ballad of Pitch Black. Requires Dirge Bullet generation from Flower of Devoured Fate and Echo of Sorrow, as well as some setup turns to activate its full potential—making it a bit awkward if you draw this Ego Skill on top in a long fight.

Echo of Sorrow

1

Instant Judgment

Attack
Attack

180% Damage.
If Dirge Bullet is in hand, discard 1 and +100% Damage Amount.

Show Effects

Instant Judgment

One of Renoa’s primary payoff cards that deals 180% damage upfront and, if a Dirge Bullet is in hand, forces a discard in exchange for +100% damage. As the card’s Discard only triggers with a Dirge Bullet in hand and discarding Dirge Bullets can be done automatically at the end of every turn, its utility is limited. Aim to use this after generating Dirge Bullets.

Ballad of Pitch Black

Another payoff card that hits 3 times for 50% damage each but gains an additional +20% damage for each Dirge Bullet in hand. This is one of Renoa’s strongest payoff cards, which not only has excellent inbuilt scaling but also benefits greatly from Morale thanks to its high hit count. Use after maximizing Dirge Bullet generation for the turn.

Last-Ditch Assault

Attack

Show Effects

Last-Ditch Assault

Renoa’s final and biggest Dirge Bullet payoff deals 150% damage, discards all Dirge bullets on use, and increases damage by +50% for each bullet. This card has Retain, allowing you to save it for the right moment Best combined with Renoa’s Ego Skill.

Potentials

Renoa’s Potentials all increase her damage, with none offering mechanical changes.

  • 3-1: Offers a huge +40% to Dirge Bullet’s multiplier and a further +20% multiplier to Extra Attacks, buffing Dirge Bullet’s overall damage output even further.
  • 5-1: Increases her basic attack damage. Incentivizes hitting the Critical Chance threshold, but her basic attacks are still one of the least important parts of her kit.
  • 7: Even more Dirge Bullet damage which further incentivizes building her Critical Chance.
Playstyle & Gameplay
Standard Playstyle

Renoa’s gameplay involves setting up for burst damage by generating Dirge Bullets with Echo of Sorrow and Flower of Devoured Fate. These Dirge Bullets represent some Extra Attack damage every time they’re discarded, but also increase the damage multiplier of Instant Judgment, Ballad of Pitch Black, and Last-Ditch Assault. Instant Judgment and Ballad of Pitch Black are good sources of consistent early and mid-fight damage while Renoa is still setting up. Once there are a good amount of Dirge Bullets in the deck, Renoa can use her Ego Skill to draw all of them into hand for big payoff damage with Last-Ditch Assault.

Tips:

  • Last-Ditch Assault’s damage is capped by hand size, so you might not always want to generate more Dirge Bullets than her Ego Skill can draw. Balance how many bullets you generate and Exhaust each turn by checking Draw/Discard piles.
  • Consider playing Dirge Bullets periodically to prevent them from clogging the deck.
  • When picking Epiphanies for Echo of Sorrow and Flower of Devoured Fate, figure out how much Dirge Bullet generation you want in your deck.

Gear

Memory Fragments

The Memory Fragments & Equipment suggestions below are based on calculations we did. If you want to check the damage formula and how scaling the damage works in CZN, check this guide.

Recommended Loadout
1

[2-PC]: +25% Critical Damage.

[2-PC]: +12% Attack.

Flex

Due to the quirks of Renoa’s 4P options, we recommend running a combination of 2/2/2 instead for maximum consistency. 2P Executioner’s and 2P Black Wing are a must, then 2P

Cursed Corpse

Cursed Corpse [2-PC]

is your next best option if you can consistently apply Agony; failing that, you can use 2P
Seth's Scarab

Seth's Scarab [2-PC]

to improve early Chaos performance. If neither of those is appealing, you can also run your best sub stat pieces or 2P Tetra’s or Healer’s for some extra defense.

Other 4-PC Set
  • Offering of the Void

    Offering of the Void [4-PC]

    - Grants Renoa a +20% (multiplicative) damage boost for 1 turn when exhausting a card. The issue with this set is needing to exhaust a card. Outside of specific Flower Epiphanies, this means she’ll have to play a Dirge Bullet, something you don’t usually want to be doing, making the set somewhat awkward to use compared to the always active 2/2/2.
  • Conquerer's Aspect

    Conquerer's Aspect [4-PC]

    - An appealing set in theory for Renoa, as all her damage comes from 1-cost attacks, which should make this set a straight-up +35% Crit DMG boost. But through a cruel twist of coding fate, this set does not affect the Extra Attack damage, which triggers when Dirge Bullets are discarded, reducing the efficiency of this set on Renoa by a lot.
Main and sub-stats

In a lot of cases, flat sub-stats are better than percentage ones when it comes to HP, ATK and DEF. The reason behind this is that in CZN the characters stats are pretty low and you get more value from flat bonus rather than percentage one based on calcs.

Ideal

Partners

Our best Partner recommendation try to balance both the raw damage boost they provide based on our calculations with the additional utility provided by the skill - combined with how it interacts with the characters's kit. We have rated each partner based on how much additional damage and the utility they provide. Read the comments under each Partner to better understand our reasoning.

1
Damage 5/5
Utility 5/5

Passive - Cantrip

The assigned combatant's Attack is increased by 8/16%.

Upon the first shuffle, the assigned combatant's damage dealt is increased by 8/16%.

Skill - Drone Deployment! - 3 EP cost

Draw 2 Cards.

  • In most cases, Yuri is Renoa’s best choice when it comes to maximizing damage and utility.
  • Yuri grants 16% combat attack increase, which can only be found on equipment and partners, and after shuffling the deck once, a 16% (multiplicative) card damage boost as well.
  • On top of all of this, she also has one of the best Ego skills around - a draw 2 for 3 EP, making her utility top tier as well.
  • This all combined, makes Yuri the best Partner for Renoa.
2
Damage 3.5/5
Utility 1/5

Passive - Ensemble

The Critical Chance of the combatant's attack cards increases by 8/16%.

When the assigned combatant's attack results in a Critical Hit, +3/5% Critical Damage. Stacks up to 5 times.

Skill - Crimson Romance - 3 EP cost

Deal 250% Damage. Apply 2 Vulnerable.

  • As an alternative, Serithea from the battlepass provides 8% Crit Rate to attack cards, which includes Dirge Bullets, and also up to 15% Crit DMG after Renoa crits 5 times in battle.
  • These bonuses are nice, but they can’t compete with the increases Yuri offers.
3
Damage 3.5/5
Utility 1/5

Passive - Analyze Weakness

If there are 10 or more cards in the Graveyard, the assigned combatant's attack card damage is increased by 15/30%.

When a card is discarded for the first time by the assigned Combatant each turn, +25/50% Damage Amount to Attack Cards for 1 turn.

Skill - Lumina Explosion - 3 EP cost

Deal 200% Damage. +20% damage by the number of cards in the Graveyard.

  • Kiara is Renoa’s signature Partner, but for whatever reason, the devs haven’t given her bonuses that allow her to outperform Yuri.
  • Kiara grants 15% (multiplicative) attack card damage when there are 10 or more cards in the grave, and after discarding a card, gains 25% (additive) Attack Card damage for 1 turn These conditions aren’t too hard to satisfy, but even so, sometimes they won't be active, and even assuming they are permanent, they don’t allow Kiara to compete damage-wise either.
  • Kiara’s Ego Skill redeems her somewhat in the damage department, offering a huge potential nuke depending on how many cards you have in the grave. Whether this is enough to redeem her lower multipliers is up to the goal of your team though.
4
Damage 3.5/5
Utility 1/5

Passive - Self Defense

The damage of the combatant's Bullet cards increases by 10/20%.

When the combatant lands their first critical hit, Bullet card damage increases by 12/24% for 1 turn(s).

Skill - What I Wished to Protect - 2 EP cost

For 1 turn, +25% Critical Chance of Designated Combatants's Attack cards.

  • At max dupe, Akad passively buffs Renoa’s bullet card damage by 20% and adds a further 24% for 1 turn after she crits once for a total of 44% (multiplicative) damage.
  • This is a very high multiplier for Dirge Bullets on paper, and puts it about on par with Kiara and Serithea as while Akad has higher multipliers, his boosts only affect Dirge Bullets.
  • Also, because of this, when playing Akad in scenarios where you don’t have full Dirge Bullet combos, like in Chaos, he even falls behind Kiara and Serithea.
5
Damage 2.5/5

  • Max Dupe Akad is already equal to or behind Renoa’s other options, so at 1 copy, he suffers even more. We don’t recommend running him over any of the alternatives.
Equipment

The equipment recommendations are based on items obtainable in Season 1’s Chaos - Laboratory 0. If you’re running content outside of Season 1, it’s possible some options may not be available for acquisition, or that other options not obtainable in Lab 0 may be better.

Comments - Weapons
  1. Equipment
    Mutant Predator Spike
    - Grants +30% (multiplicative) damage to all damage while holding 4 or more cards in hand. Renoa is capable of filling her hand with Dirge bullets, which she often holds until the end of the turn to discard, making a hand size of 4 or higher very likely. Because of this, Mutant Predator is a solid boost for her.
  2. Equipment
    Second Method
    - Grants +35% (additive) Extra Attack damage amplifying the damage of all of Renoa’s Dirge discard damage. The Second Method is the largest and most consistent damage increase across the board, even pulling ahead of Mutant Predator Spike for some builds.
  3. Equipment
    Obsidian Sword
    - Grants +12% (multiplicative) damage to all abilities. Weaker than Renoa’s alternatives but better than nothing, use it if you have neither of the above.
Comments - Armor
  1. Equipment
    Wings of Freedom
    - Every time the team is hit, it grants a stacking +10% (multiplicative) damage boost for the rest of the fight, up to 3 stacks (30%). Best damage-focused option for Renoa.
  2. Equipment
    Fragment of the Empty Void
    - If you don’t want more damage, Fragment of the Empty Void is an alternative choice, allowing up to 3 cards in your opening hand to be redrawn.
  3. Equipment
    Rocket-Adorned Cape
    - If neither of the options above is available, Rocket-Adorned Cape is also a solid choice, giving you an extra draw at the start of combat and also 1 damage reduction stack.
Comments - Trinkets
  1. Equipment
    Dimensional Cube
    - Grants +10% (additive) damage to all abilities every time any card is discarded from anywhere for 1 turn. Renoa’s kit is focused on discarding multiple of her own cards capable of triggering the Dimensional Cubes effect. In addition to this, she often runs alongside Discard-heavy teammates like Nia and Cassius, making this accessory her best option in most cases.
  2. Equipment
    Emblem of an Exceptional Entity
    - A +30% (additive) bonus to all abilities, making it the best option if you don’t manage to get a Dimensional Cube or if you don’t plan on playing a discard-heavy Renoa build.
  3. Equipment
    Amorphous Cube
    - Slightly worse than Emblem, but far easier to get boosting damage by +25% (additive) instead of 30%.
  4. Equipment
    Superconductive Protein
    - If damage options don’t appeal to you or you, for some reason, aren’t offered one that works for you, Superconductive Protein can be used to gain additional momentum for the wearer and their team on turn 1 by discounting one card in your opening hand to 0.

Deck & Teams

Recommended Build
Important!

CZN is a game of randomness; sometimes you’ll be offered generic or Divine epiphanies that are stronger than a character's standard five options. In these cases, breaking the listed build can result in an even more powerful save. Adjust as you see fit!

Build Comments

There are currently two build paths Renoa can go down, which are each slightly different. One is a more sustainable version, opting for a non-exhaust but less potent version of Flower of Devoured Fate, while the other goes all in on Dirge Generation at the cost of having its main generator being exhausted on use.

  • The Sustainable Renoa build uses Flower of Devoured Fate I, which doesn’t have exhaust, costs 0, but is limited to only generating 3 Dirge Bullets per use. The upside of this build is that it can discard Renoa’s own cards, allowing you to discard Dirge Bullets mid-turn, and also won't lose generation even in longer fights.
  • The Max Burst build uses Flower of Devoured Fate II, which has exhaust and discards every other combatant's card in hand on use in exchange for generating 2 Dirge Bullets per card discarded, allowing up to 10 bullets to be generated at once. This option is a much stronger burst but costs 1 AP to use, can’t be used to discard other Dirge Bullets, and is exhausted after one use.
Card Removal Priority
  • Black Veil: As a DPS, Renoa has no need for a shielding card. The first removal priority for Renoa.
  • Annihilation Shot: Fine early on in runs, but not strong enough to be kept in endgame Renoa decks as they have no interaction with her Dirge Bullet combo playstyle. Remove as the next priority.
  • Instant Judgment: Instant Judgment is a strong standalone card, but doesn’t assist with amplifying or establishing Renoa’s main Dirge Bullet combo. Because of this, it can be removed if you want, but keeping it is also acceptable if you’d prefer to maintain additional damage potential outside of her combo.
Card Dupe Priority
Dupe Priority

Flower of Devoured Fate II/I > Echo of Sorrow IV

Dirge generation and discard are key to Renoa’s game plan; therefore, Flower of Devoured Fate is the best dupe choice in both builds. As a secondary choice, you may also dupe Echo of Sorrow, as it still works as a Dirge Generator, but just either generates less or lacks the discard Flowers options.

Epiphany Alternatives
  • Flower of Devoured Fate: Flower of Devoured Fate II is the strongest choice for maximizing burst damage and is the key to the max burst Renoa build. If you want a more sustained and, in a lot of ways, flexible playstyle, use Flower I and the Sustainable Renoa build instead.
  • Instant Judgment: A card not directly part of our combo, and which has many substitutions depending on what you prefer. Instant Judgment V is a strong option, as after being used once, it’s out of the deck, boosting consistency. But if you’d prefer to retain an active burst card, I or IV can be used instead. This is all assuming you don’t opt to remove this card.
  • Echo of Sorrow: IV offers the most Dirge Bullet generation, making it preferable, but Echo I is a viable alternative. V can also be used if you would prefer to thin your deck of this card while still retaining some benefit.
Best Synergies
Best Teams
Important!

If you’re losing runs when playing a damage-focused composition either to sanity or dying, consider using a team with more defensive characters - so including both a shielder and healer. This is especially important in the Zero System mode.

Balanced Team

Nia is the more offensive option via her discard synergy, while Mika has superior healing and allows for more flexibility via her AP.

Shielder
Any Shielder
Damage-focused Team

Cassius offers higher potential thanks to his Shuffle being an additional combo enabler and search getting to key pieces. Mika grants more flexibility thanks to superior AP.
