Vertical investment does not scale as well as other Lunar DPS.
Zibai is a 5-star Geo Sword user most commonly played as an on-field Lunar-Crystallize Main DPS. Her gameplay consists of gathering resources from her enhanced Normal Attacks and Lunar-Crystallize reaction triggers to use her special Skill to deal direct Lunar-Crystallize damage. As a Moonsign unit, she is deeply connected to her unique reaction, which is mandatory to play her effectively.
Lunar-Crystallize is a reaction that replaces Hydro Crystallize when certain Moonsign characters such as Zibai, Linnea, or Columbina are on the team. It is triggered the same way, and doing so spawns intangible Geo Constructs called “Moondrifts” that count for enabling the effects of a team’s Geo Resonance; triggering the reaction three times causes the Moondrifts to launch a “Moondrift Harmony” which deals Lunar-Crystallize reaction damage. The aforementioned characters can also deal direct Lunar-Crystallize damage as part of their kits. All Lunar-Crystallize damage is considered Geo damage, and similar to other damaging reactions, scales with EM, reaction damage bonuses, ignores DEF, and does not benefit from standard DMG%; unlike typical reactions, it can also CRIT.
Reaction Lunar-Crystallize damage takes into account the level and stats of all characters who contributed to triggering the reaction based on their damage dealt to the enemy - 100% of the stats of the strongest participant, then 50% and 8% for second and third, respectively. Direct Lunar-Crystallize damage is based on the multiplier and the scaling stat listed in the ability instead of level, but additionally enjoys a hidden 1.6x multiplier to its damage.
Zibai’s Moonsign Passive enables Hydro Crystallize to be converted into Lunar-Crystallize and increases the team’s Moonsign level by 1. It also increases Lunar-Crystallize Base DMG - a separate multiplier to Reaction DMG - based on Zibai’s DEF, to a maximum of 14% at 2000 DEF.
Her core gameplay loop is accessed through her Elemental Skill, which causes her to enter the Lunar Phase Shift state where she gains interruption resistance and can accrue up to 100 Phase Shift Radiance points. She expends 60 of these points to cast her special Skill, which deals two instances of Geo damage; the second hit is dealt as direct Lunar-Crystallize damage when a Moondrift exists nearby. The state lasts for 15 seconds, but is more likely to end well before that as it also ended once Zibai has used this special Skill four times.
Zibai accumulates 10 points per second naturally, but can additionally generate more; her state-enhanced Normal Attacks at a rate of 5 each, or triggers of the Lunar-Crystallize reaction which give her 35 points on a 4 second cooldown. When enhanced by her state her Normal Attacks deal Geo damage, with the fourth attack being direct Lunar-Crystallize damage if a Moondrift is nearby. All this means consistently triggering Lunar-Crystallize is vital to Zibai’s use.
Her Burst is simple and effective, dealing two instances of Geo damage with the second being direct Lunar-Crystallize. While hardly her main focus, her Burst deals enough damage that Zibai uses it when she can - aided by the fact that her Burst extends her special state to account for its animation time.
In a similar vein, both her Ascension Passives are strong but hardly eye-catching buffs that double down on Zibai’s need to have the Lunar-Crystallize reaction triggered. The first Passive increases her special Skill’s Lunar-Crystallize multiplier when a Moondrift Harmony is launched, while the second allows Zibai to respectively increase her DEF or Elemental Mastery for every Geo or Hydro character in the team.

Moonsign characters increase the Moonsign level of the party by a stage; at level 1, this grants the Nascent Gleam effect. This has almost no benefits of its own, and is mostly relevant for the incomplete effect of certain character, weapon, and artifact passives.
At level 2 and above, however, it grants Ascendant Gleam – unlocking the full effect of the above passives, alongside allowing non-Moonsign units to increase Lunar Reaction DMG% by up to 36% when using their Skill or Burst. This is based on their stats, which varies by element as follows:
All 5-star Moonsign units can additionally enable the use of and buff the Base Damage (separate from Reaction DMG%) of their corresponding Lunar Reaction. For example, Zibai adds 1 Moonsign level while activating and buffing Lunar-Crystallize, while Illuga just adds 1 Moonsign level to the team.
Zibai’s core gameplay loop is extremely simple:
Rotate through supports to set up buffs, off-field damage, and consistent Geo and Hydro application for Lunar Crystallize
Execute Zibai’s on-field combos.
A bit more nuance exists when it comes to Zibai’s combos, as explained below.
The notation used to refer to combat inputs in this section will be as follows:
Zibai’s gameplay loop consists of expending her four Skill casts per Lunar Phase Shift state as quickly as possible, with a secondary priority of maximizing how often she can use her N4 due to it also doing direct Lunar-Crystallize damage. To that end, Zibai’s standard combo simply looks like this:
E 4(N4E)
However, Zibai can also shorten her combo by delaying her first special Skill cast; this allows her to reduce her rotation time and frontload her damage. This can be done as follows:
E 2N4 EE N1 E N4 E
It’s worth noting that her shortened combo does not necessarily yield better damage due to having less N4 casts, and is primarily used when its ancillary effects can be capitalized on. They also can be occasionally inconsistent on teams with poor Hydro application as it relies more on the point generation from Lunar-Crystallize reaction triggers.
Zibai’s Burst can be used at any point in her combos, though to preserve rotation time it is usually best inserted as a replacement for one of her attack strings - in other words, using N1 Q E instead of N4 E. An example of this in her standard combo would be:
N4E N1QE 2(N4E)
It is best to use her Burst this way as soon as possible, so that Zibai can begin accumulating Energy for her next one.
Thanks to her first Constellation, Zibai will be granted a powered-up additional use of her Skill after entering the Lunar Phase Shift state that she casts immediately; the rest of her combos then proceed as normal.
EE QE 3N4E
At C6, Zibai prioritizes using her Skill only when her Phase Shift Radiance bar is full, with her C4 ensuring she does not miss N4 casts by making it so her Skill does not interrupt her attack combo.
