Ran is a debuff DPS with bonus scaling against Shocked enemies. Her Ultimate skill deals huge damage to all enemies, reduces their Defense and deals additional damage against targets affected with Shocked. Her Active Skill deals large damage to all Frontline enemies and deals additional damage if they are Shocked. Her Swordmaster Passive increases her own Attack and Critical Hit Rate whereas her Intimidation Passive decreases enemies Defense and at Transcendence 3, decreases their Critical Hit Resistance additionally.
Ran, alongside Lua, is one of the more popular DPSes at launch, but eventually gave way to ranged DPSes like Lua and Tiamat when it became more difficult to Tank. The advent of Dian Cecht has breathed a second wind to the duo in Raids, where the combination of her neutral Holy typing, high shock scaling attacks, and debuffs allow her to be a top contributing DPS in many different Raid scenarios. She is still very squishy, however, and needs good healing support, and reset malds to ensure she doesn’t get blown up at high incoming DMG situations.
Ran’s Card Moonlight Swordplay is used by Frontline DPS. Its user can counter attack an enemy when hit for up to 100% Attack more whereas its Stat Line provides Melee Attack increase.
This is the best frontline Card in terms of raw damage. Melee units are usually the one taking hits so using this on someone that gets hit a lot ramps up your damage by a lot.
A special use case of Ran’s Card Moonlight Swordplay is with Lifelong Contract where Lifelong Contract is used by Galahad and Ran’s Card is used by your best DPS (Should be the highest HP after Galahad).
This helps Galahad survive a bit more while redirecting damage to Ran’s Card user which also enables the Ran’s card to proc its effect twice (Normal Mob Hits + LC damage redirection).
Primarily used in Mob stages more than it is on Bosses. Kay and Lancelot are the current favored Ran card users because of their high base HP and Critical Hit Rate, allowing reflected damage to crit.
