His kit focuses on Shields and counterattacks. Whenever allies with J’s shield are hit, J will counterattack all enemies and apply [Burn] to them and to himself. J’s [Burn] can also purify [Freeze] and [Cold], as well as greatly increase his damage and shield efficiency.When his HP is low, J’s capability to deal damage and resist negative statuses will be further improved.

Mass counter. Grants all allies a [Shield] with (J's ATK x250%) HP for 2 rounds, with each stack of [Burn] on self granting an additional 3% Shield Factor. After an ally holding a Shield is attacked, J ripostes with [Tempering].
Tempering:
Mass attack. Deals 30% Reality DMG to all enemies. Inflicts 2 stacks of [Burn] on the targets hit. For every 10% Missing HP on self, deals an additional 10% Reality DMG.
When attacking, gain an ATK percentage equal to 0.5x of the number of [Burn] stacks on self, and resolve own [Burn] to deal damage to self while retaining the number of stacks. Every time after J's attack successfully inflicts [Burn], J grants the same number of [Burn] stacks to self. Take 50% less damage from resolving own [Burn] stacks, and never fall below 15% HP this way.
DMG Dealt +8% when the caster enters battle.
J's [Burn] stack limit is increased to 35, and becomes immune to [Freeze] and [Cold] while in the [Burn] status. At the start of the round, if J is below 50% HP, dispel all non-Burn [Stats Down] and [Neg Status] from self, then grant Critical Rate +20% to self for 1 round.
Burn:
Neg Status. Healing Taken -15% (unstackable). At the end of the round, takes (the holder's ATK x4%) Genesis DMG (stackable up to 30 times, multiple stacks of [Burn] is regarded as 1 [Neg Status], removes 50% of the stacks when triggered).
J has one or more Euphoria upgrades available that amplify their base skills.
Tier I
[Bodily Furnace] effect enhanced: When attacking, gain an additional ATK percentage equal to 100% of the original effect.
[Bodily Furnace] effect adjusted: Every time after J's attack successfully inflicts [Burn], J grants the same number of [Burn] stacks to self (triggers even when the inflicted stacks overflow). Self becomes immune to [Burn] damage, and own [Burn] stacks are no longer depleted on resolution.
[Bodily Furnace I]>[Bodily Furnace III] effect adjusted: At the start of the round, based on the number of [Burn] stacks on self, the following effects are applied and can each be granted multiple times: If stacks ≥ 10: Grant all allies DMG Taken Reduction +1% per stack of [Burn] for 1 round. If stacks ≥ 20: Dispel all [Neg Status] except [Burn] and 1 type of [Stats Down] or [Control] from self and dispel 1 type of [Neg Status], [Stats Down], or [Control] from all other allies. If stacks ≥ 30: Grant all allies Riposte DMG Bonus +1% per stack of [Burn] for 1 round.
Tier II
[Hardness Testing] no longer grants all allies DMG Dealt increase, instead deals additional Reality DMG equal to 100% of the base Reality DMG, increases [Burn] inflicted to 6 stacks, and is now treated as a counter.
Tier III
[Over the Haight Street!] deals additional Reality DMG equal to 100% of the base Reality DMG. For every excess stack of [Burn] on the main target, the additional Reality DMG dealt is increased to 500% of the original effect. After attacking, grant all allies DMG Dealt increase — for every stack of [Burn] on self, DMG Dealt +2.5% for 3 rounds. [Over the Haight Street!] no longer takes up the allied Spelldock Limit.
Tier IV
[Heat Treating]'s base Shield Multiplier is increased to 150% of the original. Each stack of [Burn] on self increases the Shield Multiplier by 5%. If the target already holds a Shield, the new Shield value is stacked onto the existing Shield, up to a maximum of J's ATK x600%.
[Tempering] deals additional Reality DMG equal to 900% of the base Reality DMG, and no longer deals additional Reality DMG based on Missing HP. Instead, for every stack of [Burn] on self, deals additional Reality DMG equal to 50% of the original Missing HP-based bonus. After attacking, grants all allies a Shield with (J's ATK x90%) Shield value. If the target already holds a Shield, the new Shield value is stacked onto the existing Shield, up to a maximum of J's ATK x600%. Additionally extends all allies' [Shield] duration to 3 rounds, with each stack of [Burn] on self increasing the Shield Multiplier by 2%. After attacking, grants self +1 Moxie. The Shield increase and Moxie increase effects each trigger up to 2 times per round.

Review
J is a six-star Beast unit centered around his Ripostes, who can do a little bit of everything, from buffing, shielding, to dealing damage.
J is a bit of an odd unit in the sense that, while his main gameplay revolves around his Ripostes, he has so many tools in his kit that lets him function in a wide variety of scenarios:
He can provide mini-shields to the team to help with survivability via his Counter card [Heat Treating], his Ripostes deal respectable damage once he ramps up, his Debuff card [Hardness Testing] lets him provide a teamwide DMG Bonus increase, and his self-damage and self-Burn shenanigans can let him kind of slot into both Bloodtithe and Lingering Glow set-ups.
All of this revolves around his most important skill, [Heat Treating]. He puts up a shield whose durability scales with his self-Burn stacks, and whenever an ally holding the shield is attacked, he will perform a Riposte, [Tempering] that has the following effects:
Applies 2 Burn stacks on all enemies hit (which then applies 2 stacks of Burn on himself via his Insight);
Deals self-damage to J based on his Burn stacks via his Insight;
Increases in damage inversely proportional to J’s remaining HP;
This creates a loop that further lowers J’s HP, increases his Burn stacks, which in turn makes his shield stronger and his Ripostes hit heavier.
His Ultimate, [Over the Haight Street!], is an AoE nuke that inflicts Burn onto the enemy equal to J’s self-Burn stacks, which then deals more damage based on Burn overflow on the enemy.
His Euphoria turns J from a somewhat odd jack-of-all-trades, master of none, into a one-man-army that can do almost everything all at once with terrifying potency.
First, his shield goes from a flimsy shield only meant as a vehicle for his Ripostes into an actual, sturdy shield that is capable of protecting the entire team even from the most powerful nukes. He can also passively reinforce and extend his shield’s strength and duration respectively, via [Tempering].
Second, his Ripostes gains a massive increase in multipliers, which allows him to become a powerful Riposte DPS in the right situations. As an aside, his Debuff skill [Hardness Testing] now also counts as a Riposte, and consequently, an Extra Action. His Ultimate also gains massive increase in multipliers, unlocking the option for him to function as a Ritual DPS as well.
Third, he no longer receives damage from his self-Burns. Instead of his damage scaling from his missing HP, all the scaling components in his kit now revolves around his self-Burn stacks:
He provides a scaling teamwide damage bonus via his Ultimate (previously via his Debuff card);
He provides a scaling teamwide damage reduction buff via his Insight;
He provides a scaling teamwide Riposte damage increase via his Insight;
He cleanses debuffs and control effects on the team once he reaches enough self-burn stacks (except his own self-Burn);
His [Tempering] gains increased multipliers based on his self-burn stacks;
He also gains passive Moxie gain, allowing him to quickly cycle through his Ultimate.
All of these combined makes J a very potent Sustain whilst having the capability to be a competitive DPS in his own right, opening up new team compositions due to his unique ability to consolidate both the Sustain and DPS roles.
Following his Euphoria upgrade, J’s identity shifts from being a DPS unit into a sustain unit. The versatile nature of his kit allows him to fit in almost any team composition, but there are a few standout units that have particular synergies with him.
Flutterpage - Aside from heavily buffing J’s [Tempering] strikes, J can perform multiple extra actions in one turn (potentially the the unit with the highest extra action frequency), ensuring Flutterpage’s [Gust] stacks is always above 25.
Cornerstone - J’s multiple [Tempering] attacks act as wonderful vehicles for Cornerstone's [Trial and Error] damage riders. J’s Riposte related buffs also increase the potency of Cornerstone’s own attacks.
Ezio Auditore - J is de-facto the best sustain for Ezio, since a big chunk of Ezio’s damage comes from his Ripostes.
Lopera - J can easily maintain high Burn stacks on the enemy to meet Lopera’s [Right on Target]’s threshold. In return, Lopera provides a good amount of crit for J, a stat he is sorely lacking in.
Anjo Nala - J is a prime candidate for Anjo Nala’s [Bone and Blood] bond thanks to his extra action frequency. He can potentially fully stack her [Legato Harmony] in one round, and they can perform their Ultimates every single turn.
Recoleta - There’s a potent synergy when J is played with P1 Recoleta. Her [Flood of Fiction] allows him to perform his Ultimate thrice per round, leading to high damage ceilings.
Windsong - Not a direct synergy, but J’s frequent extra actions allows Windsong teams to comfortably slot in Lopera, 6, or Rhiannon without needing to worry about managing Flutterpage’s [Gust] stacks.
It’s also good time to mention that since J scales with his self-Burn stacks, which is a Negative Status, you do not want to pair him with units who have Cleansing effects, e.g., Vila, Fatutu, Marsha, Narcissus, etc. Thankfully, most of these units are also Sustain units, so there’s very little chance that you’ll be putting them in the same team anyway.
Great generalist sustain that can fit in almost any team composition;
Strong DPS capabilities through his Ripostes and/or Ultimate;
Powerful defensive utility via his shield, teamwide cleanse, and damage reduction;
Boasts a hefty teamwide DMG Bonus buff;
Very potent Mass [Burn] application, good for units like Lopera or teams like Lingering Glow;
Has the highest potential amounts of extra actions in a single turn.
Very AP positive, only needing one AP every three turns to perform his job well.
He relies on being able to perform his Ripostes to do his job well, making him slightly weaker in content where enemies don’t do frequent direct attacks;
His overall power is tied to his self-Burn stacks, meaning any stage (or teammates) that can cleanse his self-Burn greatly cuts down his performance.
Stats and Build
ATK focused, recommended if running J as a Sustain.
Crit focused;
Genuinity recommended if used as a Riposte DPS;
Elucidation recommended if ran as a Ritual DPS.

The Unbearable Lightness -
J’s signature psychube. Overall a good choice that gives him all the stats he wants to perform as a good sustain or DPS.
Family Mentor -
Moldir’s signature psychube. A more supportive option that gives teamwide Crit DMG while also slightly boosting his Ultimate’s damage, best used in teams that quickly cycle through Moxie.
Cracks in the Shell -
Fatutu’s signature psychube. Another good generalist option that gives J a good amount of ATK and potential buffing.
Outside the City -
Jiu Niangzi’s signature psychube. This is only used in long fights and when J is the DPS. This chube basically fixes his Crit deficiency by spamming his Debuff card to fully stack it up.
On the Hand of Time -
Flutterpage’s signature psychube. A reliable option for when J is used as a Riposte DPS.
