New Voyage Banners
The New Voyage Banners are 2 permanent Gacha Banners that offer new players the ability to pull for one of the Limited 5* Characters ranging from Version 1.0 to 1.4, along with their signature weapons. These are Jiyan and Verdant Summit, Yinlin and Stringmaster, Jinhsi and Ages of Harvest, Changli and Blazing Brilliance, Zhezhi and Rime-Draped Sprouts, Xiangli Yao and Verity’s Handle, The Shorekeeper and Stellar Symphony, Camellya and Red Spring.
Now of these options, who would bring the most value to an account? Let’s check them out to see what each of them provides. More information can be found on their dedicated character pages.
Jiyan
Jiyan is an Aero Broadblade Main DPS character whose focus is on his Resonance Liberation, dealing large AoE damage that can vacuum enemies in. Jiyan is an incredibly simple character and one of the increasingly rare characters who is able to use 4* characters to an effective degree - even if at this point it falls behind the 5* options. His strong AoE and grouping capabilities make him a decent character to use within Tower of Adversity and Whimpering Wastes.
Pros & Cons
- Incredibly easy kit to understand with a simple to execute rotation.
- Large AoE effects and Vaccuuming abilities.
- Has good synergy with the 4* Character Mortefi.
- Has multiple strong 5* supports to invest into, allowing Jiyan to provide value even later down the line.
- Has trouble catching up to enemies during his Ultimate, leading to large losses in Energy generation.
- Relies on Ultimate to deal damage, which is especially bad in early game where Energy Regen is rare.
- Low Investment team falls behind in damage output.
Yinlin
Yinlin is an Electro Rectifier Hybrid character who deals large off-field damage and buffs your Electro and Resonance Liberation DPS Characters. Her playstyle offers decent AoE damage output from a range, but has some consistency issues to her tracking leaving something to be desired, as well as her Intro Skill causing her to be positioned into awkward places for her optimal rotation. Her value strongly depends on which DPS characters you have access to, but with the right team can absolutely provide good value within Tower of Adversity.
Pros & Cons
- Has access to Coordinated Attacks for characters like Jinhsi.
- Does not require her Resonance Liberation to do her job.
- Has a very low amount of synergy with many new characters, and even struggles to find usecases for older ones. At least her weapon is good!
- Can easily be interrupted, especially during her Chameleon Cipher Heavy ATK, completely cancelling over half of her damage.
- Again, cannot stress this enough, Yinlin doesn’t have teams.
- Struggles to find accessible weapon options.
Jinhsi
Jinhsi is a Spectro Broadblade Main DPS character who focuses all of her damage into 1 large Resonance Skill damage nuke. Jinhsi is a deceptively simple character to pick up with an absurd level of optimization that allows her to actively compete with even more modern characters. Her damage being so focused into 1 large nuke may not matter much for Tower of Adversity, but it does heavily limit her usage within Whimpering Wastes to an absurd degree.
Pros & Cons
- Large damage output - one of the largest among the 1.x cast.
- Strong quickswapping potential.
- Has multiple characters to synergize with - Yuanwu, Yinlin and Zhezhi.
- One of the few DPS’s to prefer Verina over Shorekeeper.
- Damage being almost entirely concentrated into 1 hit makes her near unusable for Whimpering Wastes.
- Performance within Tower of Adversity is not strong enough to make up for her massive power gap within Whimpering Wastes.
Changli
Changli is a Fusion Sword Hybrid or DPS character who deals consistent Resonance Skill damage. Her value is most commonly found within either Quickswap setups with other DPS characters, or by exploiting the ludicrous buffs given by Lupa. She can play as a relatively easy character within the Mono Fusion composition with Brant and Lupa, but where she truly shines is once you start exploiting the Swap cancelling mechanic.
Pros & Cons
- One of the best characters to Swap cancel within the entire game.
- Good synergy with one of the strongest Hybrid characters - Lupa.
- Incredibly convenient to use within Overworld.
- Has access to the incredibly strong Emerald of Genesis.
- Low personal damage output, causing her to struggle if she is the only strong damage dealing character within the team.
- Does not perform well with any teams that do not feature Lupa.
- Within her strongest archetype, she is outclassed by other Fusion DPS Characters - primarily Aemeath and Galbrena.
Zhezhi
Zhezhi is a Glacio Rectifier Hybrid character who buffs your Glacio and Resonance Skill DPS characters through her Outro Skill. Zhezhi is a very simple character to judge - her performance depends entirely on the reliance of the DPS characters she is strongest with, which is currently very little. Since the release of Lynae Zhezhi has found herself without use on any team except for Jinhsi, but she can still find her uses.
Pros & Cons
- Works with a very strong Tower of Adversity DPS, Carlotta.
- Gives Resonance Energy to the next character in the team.
- Lacks teams where she is the best option outside of Jinhsi, where she would be the first to be powercrept.
Xiangli Yao
Xiangli Yao is an Electro Gauntlets DPS who deals damage through his Resonance Liberation and Enhanced Resonance Skill. Both a simple powerhouse and a high effort menace, Xiangli Yao is one of the easiest characters to pick up and also one that you can put plenty of effort into if you so desire. While he does not have any specialty, he is able to perform at the very least decently in all content if given to the required tools.
Pros & Cons
- Is able to perform relatively well in all Endgame content.
- Simple to pick up with relatively good opportunities for skill expression.
- Has absolutely no strong 4* teammate options.
- Even among the Standard Banner cast, Xiangli Yao struggles to find a usable Hybrid option.
The Shorekeeper
Shorekeeper is a Spectro Rectifier Support who has an absurd amount of buffing for nearly every single character in the entire game. The short story? She is probably STILL the best character in the entire game, being a strong contender for 95% of teams in the game. She truly has it all. A fast rotation, a revive, crit buffing, attack buffing, DMG Amplification buffing, The Shorekeeper is THE best option from this banner.
Pros & Cons
- Has not been powercrept as the best overall support in the game since her release.
- Short rotation time, allowing for you to get to your damage dealing characters faster.
- Incredibly STUPID amount of buffing as outlined before, allowing her to annihilate almost every other character within the support slot.
- Outro Skill allows for you to Perfect Dodge an attack even after already getting hit.
- Can revive an ally once every 15 minutes.
- Not best in slot in literally every team (A nitpick, I know).
- Doesn’t do any meaningful damage of her own.
Camellya
Camellya is a Havoc Sword DPS Who specializes in Basic ATK Damage through either an AoE based playstyle or a Single Target focused one. Camellya’s strong AoE allows her to still be a good option within Whimpering Wastes, and her ability to shift into a more Single Target focus through alternate rotations allows her to still perform to an acceptable level in Tower of Adversity.
Pros & Cons
- Has access to Emerald of Genesis, allowing her to work well without her Signature Weapon.
- Can use one of the strongest 4* characters, Sanhua.
- Cannot move during Resonance Skill outside of dodges, AKA, your WASD just won’t work.
- Has one of the worst performances of all Limited Characters when considering premium teams.
- Struggles to maintain consistency in Whimpering Wastes due to frequent Havoc Resistance (blame Phrolova).
As for the weapons within this beginner banner it becomes an entirely different question, so let ’s look at each of them shall we?
Verdant Summit
Jiyan’s signature weapon provides some Attribute DMG Bonus as well as Heavy ATK Bonus after using Intro Skill and Resonance Liberation. Obviously a strong weapon on Jiyan, but also finds a usecase on one of the current best DPS’s in the game - Augusta. While obviously being inferior to her own signature weapon, Verdant Summit gives you an easy to acquire option with 0 FOMO behind it.
Pull value: B
Stringmaster
Behold! The biggest impact Yinlin has left on the Wuthering Waves meta! Stringmaster is one of the most universal Rectifiers in the game, being at least a top 3 option on every damage dealing Rectifier character within the game. It provides a large ATK bonus after dealing Resonance Skill DMG for 5 seconds, stacking up to 2 times. It also grants an additional bonus if the equipping character is off-field. But even then, it has its flaws. The best rectifier character in the game - Phrolova - sees a larger damage loss from using this weapon compared to her Signature Weapon than most characters do. Additionally, Stringmaster’s usage is tied to Resonance Skill DMG, which future characters simply may not be able to trigger.
Pull value: A
Ages of Harvest
Jinhsi’s signature weapon is incredibly similar to Jiyan’s, except swap the Crit DMG for Crit Rate, and the Heavy ATK Bonus to Skill Bonus after using Intro Skill and Resonance Skill. However, unlike Verdant Summit, there is no top tier character that is able to take full advantage of this passive like with Verdant Summit and Augusta. It does generally outperform Verdant Summit as a generalist weapon, but the margin for this is so small that it may as well not be mentioned.
Pull value: C+
Blazing Brilliance
Changli’s signature boasts an impressive amount of Resonance Skill DMG Bonus compared to the other weapons in this roster, offering 56% at maximum stacks compared to the normal 48%. However it does come with some downsides, its biggest one being how it requires quite some time to be fully stacked. This means that in reality you will not be able to benefit from the full 56%. Additionally it has the very hard job of competing with Emerald of Genesis, and while it can outperform it in some cases, it’s usually only a minor amount outside of Changli herself.
Pull value: C
Rime-Draped Sprouts
Zhezhi’s signature weapon is what I will, unfortunately, have to call a “Stringmaster victim”. Rime-Draped Sprouts offers a large amount of stats that can benefit Zhezhi, but it unfortunately is not enough to make it actually worth getting when Stringmaster is on the exact same banner. Even on Zhezhi herself the weapon barely outperforms Stringmaster, while being worse on almost every other character.
Pull value: D
Verity’s Handle
It’s almost as if 1.2 was following a certain theme by creating weapons that have 0 value. Verity’s Handle is a better generalist option than Rime-Draped Sprouts, but even on Xiangli Yao himself it always gets beaten by Iuno’s signature weapon Moongazer’s Sigil. While Verity’s Handle does not have any FOMO due to it being permanently available, there is little reason to aim for it when Stringmaster is an option. There is an argument to be made for this weapon, it’s just one that you are going to lose.
Pull value: C-
Stellar Symphony
Shorekeeper’s signature weapon does not follow in the footsteps of its owner, as almost all of the utility it provides can be replicated by a 4* weapon - Variation. The only thing you will be missing out on is a 14% ATK buff, which… I mean, it can help in some speedruns, but that is not a practical enough reason to justify the cost.
Pull value: D
Red Spring
Camellya’s signature weapon falls into a couple of the same pitfalls as Changli’s, the main one being simple: the competition. Emerald of Genesis is a very strong Sword weapon that is literally given for free at Union Level 45, so as a generalist option it is simply not a good pull. It does offer a larger gap than usual when used on Cartethyia, but Cartethyia simply vastly prefers her own signature weapon. Red Spring as a generalist weapon is just not worth it. For Camellya herself it can absolutely find value though, so it can be pulled if you decided to choose her as the character to pull. But again - Emerald of Genesis.
Pull value: C+
Verity’s Handle
It’s almost as if 1.2 was following a certain theme by creating weapons that have 0 value. Verity’s Handle is a better generalist option than Rime-Draped Sprouts, but even on Xiangli Yao himself it always gets beaten by Iuno’s signature weapon Moongazer’s Sigil. While Verity’s Handle does not have any FOMO due to it being permanently available, there is little reason to aim for it when Stringmaster is an option. There is an argument to be made for this weapon, it’s just one that you are going to lose.
