Makoto is a deceptively straightforward and situational Animus, with her kit revolving around counters and Dispels.

Makoto is one of the few DEF scaling Animuses, and she has access to the rare combo of [DEF+] and Dispels in one kit, favoring a more defensive playstyle that, at the time of her release, can unfortunately be beneficial in a few places only.

Let's go over her kit first:

  • Similar to Rahu, Makoto’s S3 is an AOE with a [DEF+] applied to all teammates upon using it, and this time with an added chance to Dispel 1 to 2 buffs from each enemy hit.

  • Her S1 is a very simple ST attack with an initially low chance to Dispel one buff every time she uses it, and the chance to trigger the Dispel gets much higher once the skill is fully leveled up.

  • Her Passive S2 is what makes her fairly unique, as she enters a counter stance with the buff [Retaliation] once she’s been hit a certain number of times, from 5 initially down to 4 with skill levels.

The skill automatically maxes out her chance to counterattack, and so does not work with the Bramble set. In this state, Makoto unleashes her Skill 1 every time she gets hit by an ability (once per enemy ability use, regardless of number of hits), and her S1 also obtains an extra chance to inflict [Wound] on top of Dispelling. Once level 5, this Passive is automatically activated at the start of battle, greatly reducing her ramp-up time.

In PVE, Makoto finds some niche use in fights like Terror, where the DEF+ greatly enhances your team, and she also happens to have one of the few effective Dispels to remove his Inferno Immunity. Outside of that, there’s currently no real challenge where her kit is required or even recommended, as her DEF scaling limits her damage, and the Dispels are often unnecessary or simply found on stronger alternatives.

In PVP, Makoto could see use in the future as players progressively obtain tankier gear options, and it’s quite possible for her to seamlessly fit in stall teams as the abundant Dispels can quickly give her team an edge in the mirror matchups.

Pros & Cons
Pros

  • DEF+ and Dispel in one button press are both very situational and amazing in the right places.

  • Guaranteed counters that can Dispel and Wound.

  • Doesn’t need any skill up as a Terror opener.

Cons

  • Low personal damage.

  • Needs to be hit repeatedly to fully exploit her kit.

  • For PVP, needs most of her skills leveled up to the max.

Before the main body acts, it increases its [DEF] by 700 for 2 turns, and applies a [Shield] equal to 400% of its own [DEF] to the main body Animus, and the Animus ally with the lowest current HP percentage for 2 turns.

Cannot stack with similar effects applied by other Shells. In PvP modes, the applied shield amount equals 350% of self DEF to the host Animus and ally with the lowest HP percentage.

Grants the wearer 700 DEF for 2 turns, as well as applying a sizable shield to an ally for 2 turns. It has a 1-turn initial cooldown, but after that, it will maintain the 700 DEF buff 66% of the time and keep the shield active often. Primarily used on dedicated DEF scalers.

Good shell that gives her both a shield that scale with her main atribute and a DEF buff that end up make her do more damage;

After the host Animus performs an attack outside their turn, follows up on the primary target, dealing damage equal to 210% of self DEF.

A high damage shell option specifically designed for extra-attack spammers, especially Assist specialists. Its DEF scaling makes it a great option for DEF-based DPS who don't need extra sources of buffs or protection. Can be used to great effects across all gamemodes.

Best in slot shell to do damage for her.
