Review
Please keep in mind Wuthering Waves is a skill-based game and each character has a different playstyle, difficulty level and even special tricks and combos. Wuthering Waves is also a team based game and it's only by combining both these factors to the highest level a character can reach optimal performance.
Top-tier damage ceiling with a focus on mid-air combat and animations that are generally hard to interrupt.
Excels in all endgame content, not just single-target bossing - Havoc Bane is applied by herself very often and constantly spreads across multiple waves.
Energy Regen requirements are super easy to meet.
Has a ton of accessible team compositions, F2P and Premium alike. F2P-friendly while also being improvable for cheap, likely some of her premium characters are already present on your account as well.
Has a short rotation compared to most Main DPS while still dealing ludicrous damage.
Looks like Selena from Punishing: Gray Raven (we like Selena from Punishing: Gray Raven).
Self-buffs CRIT stats by so much that Shorekeeper is rendered practically useless; she is hence more limited in premium 3rd slot options than most (Mornye only with Lynae, or Chisa are your only upgrade paths from Verina).
Somewhat limited in Swap Cancelling; currently plays best with Outro buffers, her damage is spread evenly across her rotation, preventing buffing key abilities, and a lot of her self-buffs only apply if she’s the active character on the field.
Yangyang: Xuanling (who we will just shorten to YY:XL throughout this review) is a 5-star Havoc Sword Main DPS character who relies on Havoc Bane and Heavy Attack damage to execute pretty fast & most importantly really strong rotations that will, with enough investment, decimate her enemies, as she is one of the top DPS characters in the game by a landslide.
YY:XL applies Havoc Bane constantly with most of the attacks in her rotation, upkeeping max stacks on all enemies at all times (even in multi-wave content) is something she can handle easily. Havoc Bane constantly applies DEF Shred to affected enemies, as well as Havoc DMG Amplification to Yangyang via one of her passives (up to 6 stacks).
Her rotation relies on switching between Azure and Feather stance. By default, she starts her rotations in Azure stance. She can switch freely between both forms via her Skill, however she can do so using enhanced skills if her Melody Forte gauge is depleted fully (via Perfect Dodges or Basic Attacks). This restores her other Forte resource, Azure Plume, which enhances her Mid-Air Attack and Azure Heavy Attack. In short, her rotation has her consuming her melody bar once, switching between both of her forms and casting her key attacks consecutively until she switches out.
YY:XL additionally self-buffs her CRIT DMG throughout her rotation, as executing it will enhance the CRIT DMG of her key attacks by massive amounts (she reaches above 500% total CRIT DMG with a standard build and team, which leads to as bonkers of a damage ceiling as you’d expect).
Finally, her Outro buffs the Havoc DMG of other Havoc Bane appliers than herself in the team on top of dealing a small amount of damage (right now, only Chisa can use this).
YY:XL’s kit is very wordy but boils down to the self-buffs we detailed above, as well as ensuring that Havoc Bane is constantly applied on enemies up to max stacks at all times, even in multi-wave content, so that’s really all we have to say on her kit before we conclude.
In the meta, YY:XL is a pretty imposing presence, to say the least. The nature of her kit makes her excel in all situations - AoE, single-target, single-wave, multi-wave, F2P or premium; you name it - she does it. In spite of her Signature weapon granting her a good increase over Emerald of Genesis, she still winds up one of the most F2P-friendly characters in the game, thanks to one of her best supports, Rebecca, being free, as well as her base damage simply being super high.
Her ability to work with proven AoE powerhouses like Phrolova, and generally applicable as well as accessible Supports like Lynae, Rebecca or even Mortefi, makes her a powerhouse with extremely few flaws, that we honestly had trouble coming up with during this review (finding cons to YY:XL’s pros is genuinely a difficult task). Overall, she is one of the most meta releases, if not the most meta DPS to ever release. F2P-friendly, and one of the highest ceilings for scoring across all endgames. Those 2 combined traits are simply things we have never seen before. Luuk got close, but struggles hard in Whimpering Wastes. YY:XL doesn’t.
In conclusion, YY:XL is one of the best DPS characters in Wuthering Waves overall. She only has room to grow post-release thanks to her ability to benefit from a wide variety of buffs paired alongside a ridiculously high base level of damage. Definitely one of the most imposing meta releases to date, YY:XL basically cannot disappoint on practically any Wuthering Waves account. If you were hesitant to pick her up and the determining factor was her meta position, rest assured - she’s top tier, no doubt.
Build
The percentages show the performance of the weapon based on calculations, but in some cases, some weapons might provide additional QOL that can't be quantified and it would push that weapon ahead of others in the priority (and in those cases, we would put that weapon higher).
Yangyang Xuanling calculations were done using added buffs from the following teammates:

Grants 10% unconditional Energy Regen on the 2P, a nice boost to ease Energy requirements. However, much more importantly, Havoc Bane appliers gain an extra 20% CRIT Rate and 35% Heavy DMG Bonus on the 5P, granting a very significant increase to Yangyang's stats, making it her perfect DPS set.
Below you can find Main Echo options:
Substats: Energy Regen (Until Satisfied) > CRIT Rate = CRIT DMG > ATK% = Heavy DMG% ATK
All recommended endgame stats portray a fairly good quality endgame build as a goal to aim for on most characters. However, don’t treat this as an end-all-be-all, and more of a suggestion.
All stat recommendations are given at S0 for 5-stars, S6 for 4-stars, and free characters (unless specified otherwise), based on total stats in the in-game stat-screen with the character out of combat but also active in the party (and hence some buffs may or may not apply). Any other precision may be directly specified. If not specified, Energy Regen requirements are estimated in the character’s best team.
HP: 15500+
DEF: 1100+
ATK: 2100-2300+
CRIT Rate: 65%+ (Before set bonuses)
CRIT DMG: 255-300%+
Energy Regen: 107%-119%
Lower end estimated with Rebecca+Chisa, higher end estimated with Chisa+Verina. In any case, should be very easy to meet due to her 2P Echo set giving 10% ER already.
Havoc DMG Bonus: 30-60%+

Gameplay and teams
The focus of YY:XL’s rotation is generating Azure Plume 4 times total in order to execute several enhanced attacks in quick succession. To do so the quickest while ensuring she is on-field for her most damaging attacks, her rotation can occur in this manner:
Since she uses a Summon Echo that deals damage periodically as Havoc Bane is applied (throughout her rotation), using it immediately as her rotation starts is recommended.
