Introduction
Performance Profile

ST Damage [3/5]

AoE Damage [3/5]

AP Efficiency [3/5]

Utility [3/5]

Selena can pursue many playstyles thanks to how transformative her Epiphanies are, but primarily revolves around applying Mark to perform lots of Additional Attacks and breaking the enemy with Tenacity Damage and Passion Weakness to trigger Break effects. Her high attack frequency makes her scale well with Morale and other damage buffs, and Mark’s Attack card requirement incentivizes running her with attack spam characters.

Pros & Cons
Pros

  • Depletes Tenacity Gauges quickly with direct Tenacity Damage and Passion Weakness.

  • Very consistent Mark application for steady Additional Attack damage

  • Works well with other Passion characters with her Passion Weakness application (as well as Combo effects in her Epiphanies)

  • Capable single-target potential with some solid AoE options.

  • Has many transformative Epiphanies that change cards, entirely opening new playstyles.

Cons

  • Most damage comes from Mark, which requires playing lots of Attack cards to trigger, limiting her team options.

  • Backloaded Mark damage can be wasted when an enemy dies with untriggered stacks.

Ratings

The ratings below are based on the Basin of Hyperspace Dimensional Twilight game mode and the Chaos Manifestation mode. Each of the modes values different mechanics, so some characters may shine in one of the, while being underwhelming in the other.

T1

Dimensional Twilight

T1

Chaos Mode

Key Mechanics
  • Mark: Mark is a stackable debuff that Selena can apply through a wide variety of her cards, forming the core of her kit. When an enemy is marked and an Attack card is used, Selena will fire an additional attack toward the marked target/s, dealing 100% ATK damage. To take advantage of this, Mark generation needs to be combined with high-frequency attacks to achieve the best results.
  • Break: The other mechanic core to Selena’s identity is break and tenacity damage. Many of Selena’s abilities cause her attacks and additional attacks to either inflict additional tenacity damage or increase the tenacity damage dealt by a %. Building on this, Selena also has abilities that provide additional benefit each time an enemy is broken, further incentivizing a high tenacity damage break playstyle.
  • Response: Triggers listed “Response” effect when drawn naturally or via card effect.
  • Break: A debuff that causes the enemy to be treated as though they are Passion weak for all combatant attacks while it remains active. It is duration-based, not hit-count-based.

Show Effects

Target Spotted

Selena’s other primary Mark generator, which functions very differently. Generates 1 Mark on 1 random enemy via its Response effect when drawn. Outside of this costs 1AP to use and deals a solid amount of damage, but nothing else. A solid card, as it doesn’t HAVE to be used in order to gain value while still being there as a hit to activate marks if Selena needs

+40% Mark Damage

Show Effects

Sniper's Domain

Selena’s only upgrade baseline cost 0AP, is unique, and boosts Mark damage by +40%. A simple, strong damage multiplier for one of the largest portions of Selena’s damage.

Potentials

Selena’s Signature Potentials offer significant damage boosts as well as some additional functionality, making them a high priority to unlock.

  • 3-1: Causes Engagement Fire to deal Piercing Damage, which ignores enemy shields.
  • 5-1: Increases Engagement Fire’s damage multiplier by +5% with an additional +5% bonus granted if Bonus Additional Damage exceeds 15%.
  • 7: Increases Passion DMG% by +4% passively, with a further +4% increase unlocked if Bonus Additional Damage exceeds 30%..
Playstyle & Gameplay
Standard Playstyle

Selena is a mix of two playstyles: Additional Attacks via Mark and Break through her tenacity damage and Passion Weakness. You may choose to specialize in one more heavily than the other, but regardless of which you choose, Selena’s game plan remains the same. Establish buffs and marks, then trigger as many additional attacks as possible either through her own attacks or her teammates to unleash a barrage of high damage gunfire.

Memory Fragments

The Memory Fragments & Equipment suggestions below are based on calculations we did. If you want to check the damage formula and how scaling the damage works in CZN, check this guide.

Selena can be played more supportive, utilizing shields through her base kit and Epiphanies or more damage focused, leaning more heavily into coordinated attacks and Mark application. We’re addressing the more damage-focused Selena builds in this guide.

Recommended Loadout
1

[2-PC]: +25% Critical Damage.

[2-PC]: +12% Attack.

Flex

The combo of Executioner’s and Black Wing is, in most cases, Selena’s best set combo, assuming you can get some value from either2P

Cursed Corpse

Cursed Corpse [2-PC]

if the enemy has Agony on them or 2P
Seth's Scarab

Seth's Scarab [2-PC]

if you’re using Selena’s basics to deal damage.

2

[4-PC]: When Upgrade Cards are used, increase Damage Amount of the next 5 Passion Cards used by 20%.

[2-PC]: +25% Critical Damage.

Selena has a lot of base damage boosts for her Marks but no easy access to multiplicative DMG% boosts, making 4P Spark of Passion a solid choice if you can’t manage to get Agony on the enemy consistently or find much value in Seth’s Scarab. Keep in mind that after five attacks, the boost from this set will be gone, as Selena only has one upgrade to use. Combine it with 2P Executioner’s.

2-PC Bonuses
  • Executioner's Tool

    Executioner's Tool [2-PC]

    - The 25% unconditional Crit DMG from this set makes it Selena’s best option among 2P sets.
  • Black Wing

    Black Wing [2-PC]

    - A 12% unconditional ATK% increase benefits all of Selena’s abilities and is a stat she can’t get anywhere else apart from gear, making it a high priority.
  • Cursed Corpse

    Cursed Corpse [2-PC]

    - Grants +10% Multiplicative DMG% to all of Selena’s abilities as long as there is Agony on the target. Selena doesn’t usually run with teammates that apply Agony and usually doesn’t do so herself, but if you can manage to fit it in, this set is very powerful for her..
  • Seth's Scarab

    Seth's Scarab [2-PC]

    - Some damage-focused Selena builds keep in basics even in endgame, making Seth’s Scarab an appealing choice in Zero System while also providing benefits in endgame.
4-PC Bonuses
  • Spark of Passion

    Spark of Passion [4-PC]

    - Grants a buff after using an upgrade that increases all Passion ability damage by +15% multiplicatively for the next five attacks. This is a good stat for Selena, and she can activate it easily thanks to Sniper’s Domain, which at E1 has Initiation. This buff affects Mark and Coordinated attacks, but neither of them consumes its charges. With that said, eventually it will still run out if you’re attacking with Selena. A solid choice, but it usually doesn’t compete with 2/2/2 set-ups.
Main and sub-stats

In a lot of cases, flat sub-stats are better than percentage ones when it comes to HP, ATK and DEF. The reason behind this is that in CZN the characters stats are pretty low and you get more value from flat bonus rather than percentage one based on calcs.

Ideal
CRIT Rate > CRIT DMG > ATK%
Desire
Passion DMG > ATK%
Imagination
ATK%
Substats:

Extra DMG% > Crit Rate% = Crit DMG% > ATK > ATK%

Partners

Our best Partner recommendation try to balance both the raw damage boost they provide based on our calculations with the additional utility provided by the skill - combined with how it interacts with the characters's kit. We have rated each partner based on how much additional damage and the utility they provide. Read the comments under each Partner to better understand our reasoning.

The best partners information aren't available yet. They will be added soon.

Equipment

In the Zero System, it’s incredibly easy to access all items acquirable via the shop thanks to the five free refreshes you get each shop node - that's why the recommendations below are limited to them only. ATTENTION! Area-specific items can sometimes be more powerful than shop items, but are far less consistent to get or require running a specific world or giving up certain event options. Use the shop list as a starting point for building up your deck saves.

Comments - Weapons
  1. Equipment
    Second Method
    - Grants +30% Additive Extra Attack damage to Selena’s Marks and coordinated attacks. In a lot of Selena builds, these two damage types make up a large amount of her damage, making this one of her top shop weapon equipment.
  2. Equipment
    Obsidian Sword
    - Grants +8% Multiplicate damage to all of Selena’s damaging abilities, including Marks and coordinated attacks. Not as strong as the Second Method, but better than you might expect, since a lot of +Mark damage, like Sniper’s Domain, is base damage that this stat type multiplies.
  3. Equipment
    Bone Cutter
    - Another +30% Additive damage multiplier for Selena, but to all her abilities, but only while they have the Weaken debuff. A good option if you can consistently apply the debuff; otherwise, not usable.
Comments - Armor
  1. Flex - When playing Selena more as a Support, this slot is more important, but in damage-focused builds, there aren’t many synergistic options available from the shop. This slot is ideally taken up by an Event/World item, but if you don’t find any, feel free to fill it with any equipment you see fit or a defensive option to boost shielding.
Comments - Trinkets
  1. Equipment
    Dimensional Cube
    - Grants Selena +10% additive damage whenever any character discards any card anywhere, with the exception of the end-of-turn discard. When paired with characters like Nia and Cassius, this option can outperform all other Shop damage choices as the damage is added to her normal, mark, and coordinated attack damage. Useless without a discard enabler, though.
  2. Equipment
    Amorphous Cube
    - Grants Selena a permanent +25% Additive damage bonus to all her abilities, including Marks and Coordinated Attacks. A solid and consistent damage boost across the board that’s always worth taking if you have nothing else.
  3. Equipment
    Quantum Collector
    - A higher potential alternative, but which requires specific play. Grants Selena a stacking +20% multiplicative damage bonus to all her damage for 1-turn per upgrade played this turn. Selena only has one upgrade herself, so this accessory requires other teammates to help it shine, and even then has a short shelf life.

Deck & Teams

Recommended Build
Important!

CZN is a game of randomness; sometimes you’ll be offered generic or Divine epiphanies that are stronger than a character's standard five options. In these cases, breaking the listed build can result in an even more powerful save. Adjust as you see fit!

Card Removal Priority
  • Emergency Shielding: If you need your Selena to shield, many incredibly powerful shield-based Epiphanies are available within her kit, making her basic shield underwhelming to keep long-term. Remove it when you can.
  • Engagement Fire: When playing Selena as a main damage dealer, her basics are worth keeping, but when playing her in a more supportive role, they’re optional. If you want minimal or no offensive capabilities for Selena in exchange for a very thin deck, it may be worth removing one or both.
Card Dupe Priority

There is no definitive choice when it comes to choosing which Sub DPS / Support Selena card to dupe in the deck.

  • High Power Scope II can be duplicated for 2 Marks on every target a turn instead of one, boosting damage.
  • Drone Bombing III can be duped for another huge 0-cost AoE payoff ability, assuming you have enough Passion cards to stack them.
  • Target Spotted IV cycles itself for free when drawn, so adding another copy of it to your deck just gives you more shielding options in hand with no downside.
  • Tactical Maneuver I adds another big shield and more potential tenacity damage that can potentially be converted into AP.
Epiphany Alternatives

Many of Selena’s Epiphanies completely change the original card's meaning, using an alternative one can change how your build works as well. If you want something else for Selena, check out other variants to see which suits your style best.

Best Synergies
Mei Lin
  • Can take advantage of Mei Lin’s Passion Weakness while also gaining benefit from her attack spam, which fuels some of Selena’s best cards.
  • Selena’s great AP efficiency leaves more resources for Mei Lin and her teammates' comboing.
  • Selena prefers high hit frequency allies to trigger all marks applied, which Mei Lin provides.
  • Offers fantastic Tenacity Damage, which complements Selena’s break-focused effects and playstyle nicely.
Best Teams
Important!

If you’re losing runs when playing a damage-focused composition either to sanity or dying, consider using a team with more defensive characters - so including both a shielder and healer. This is especially important in the Zero System mode.
