Lauma is a 5-star Dendro Catalyst user who is most commonly played as a support. She specializes in buffing Bloom and Lunar-Bloom reactions; this is complemented by her shredding enemy Hydro and Dendro RES, which also allows for more general use. As a Moonsign unit, she also features important synergies with other characters in the faction.
Lunar-Bloom is a reaction that nominally replaces Bloom when certain Moonsign characters such as Lauma, Columbina, or Nefer are on the team. For most purposes, it functions similarly: it is triggered the same way, deals no damage, and spawns a normal Dendro Core which reacts as usual to deal Dendro damage unaffected by Lunar-Bloom bonuses. The only difference is that Lunar-Bloom also accumulates Verdant Dew, which is a resource shared between the team; it can be generated every 2.5 seconds and stack up to 3 times. Verdant Dew can be consumed by the aforementioned characters to deal direct Lunar-Bloom damage with some of their abilities, alongside additional effects. Direct Lunar-Bloom damage is treated as Dendro reaction damage and so scales with EM, reaction damage bonuses, ignores DEF, and does not benefit from standard DMG%; unlike typical reactions, it can naturally CRIT and uses the multiplier and scaling stat listed in the ability instead of being dependent on levels.
Lauma’s Moonsign Passive enables Blooms to be converted into Lunar-Blooms and increases the team’s Moonsign level by 1. It also increases Lunar-Bloom Base DMG - a separate multiplier to Reaction DMG - based on Lauma’s EM, to a maximum of 14% at 800 EM.
Lauma’s Elemental Skill has both a tap and a held variant; tapping it has no additional effects, while holding it allows Lauma to consume up to 3 Verdant Dew to gain an equal amount of “Moon Song” for her Burst while dealing direct Lunar-Bloom damage. Regardless of how it is used, it triggers her first Ascension Passive while also summoning a “Frostgrove Sanctuary” to periodically apply Dendro, generate energy, and shred enemy Dendro and Hydro RES.
Her Ascension 1 Passive provides a simple buff based on the party’s Moonsign Level. At Nascent Gleam, it allows Bloom-related reactions to CRIT with 15% CRIT Rate and 100% CRIT Damage; meanwhile, at Ascendent Gleam, it instead increases Lunar-Bloom damage’s CRIT Rate by 10% and its CRIT DMG by 20%. This generally matches the needs of what a team with the corresponding Moonsign level would reach. The occasional anti-synergy - such as Lauma with Ineffa on Hyperbloom teams - can usually be overcome by their individual strengths.
Just as important to Lauma’s value is her Elemental Burst, which grants her “Pale Hymn”, with 18 stacks of it being granted unconditionally on use. These Pale Hymn stacks can be consumed whenever damage is dealt with Bloom-related reactions or Lunar-Bloom to increase it. The increase can be thought of as an extra talent multiplier scaling off of Lauma’s Elemental Mastery that she adds on when damage is dealt to the enemy, with all the other multipliers and stats used, such as CRIT and Reaction DMG Bonus, taken from the unit dealing that instance of damage. This kind of increase is most commonly referred to as “quills” by the community (and by this guide henceforth); Lauma’s quills are some of the most powerful in the game, and are generated in abundance at a baseline - and even packing a mechanism by which to generate more!
As foreshadowed in her Hold Skill description, her Burst can also make use of the generated Moon Song: converting each stack into 6 Pale Hymn each, for up to 18 more stacks. It even has additional quality of life by accounting for Moon Song generated within 15s of using her Burst, though her Burst will only check and convert Lauma’s Moon Song once per Burst total.
Her Normal and Charged Attacks were left unmentioned as they are of minimal value to her kit in combat, only ever being used for additional Dendro application despite their unique mechanics.

Moonsign characters increase the Moonsign level of the party by a stage; at level 1, this grants the Nascent Gleam effect. This has almost no benefits of its own, and is mostly relevant for the incomplete effect of certain character, weapon, and artifact passives.
At level 2 and above, however, it grants Ascendant Gleam – unlocking the full effect of the above passives, alongside allowing non-Moonsign units to increase Lunar Reaction DMG% by up to 36% when using their Skill or Burst. This is based on their stats, which varies by element as follows:
All 5-star Moonsign units can additionally enable the use of and buff the Base Damage (separate from Reaction DMG%) of their corresponding Lunar Reaction. For example, Zibai adds 1 Moonsign level while activating and buffing Lunar-Crystallize, while Illuga just adds 1 Moonsign level to the team.
Lauma is a very simple character: you use her Elemental Skill, then use her Elemental Burst.
Her tap Skill is preferred when run with Nefer and without Columbina so as to leave sufficient Verdant Dew for Nefer. Outside of this, Hold Skill is preferred: Columbina both provides additional Verdant Dew through her Passive and consumes Lauma’s quills when dealing damage, while teams where Lauma is the sole Lunar-Bloom unit tend to burn through her quills due to the constant reactions while also having no other use for Verdant Dew.
There’s no underselling it: Lauma is a massive improvement to any team that deals large amounts of Dendro reaction damage. Teams like Nilou Bloom and Hyperbloom substantially benefit from her, but her value is even more pronounced for Lunar-Bloom teams. Both Nefer and Main DPS Columbina are almost half a unit without Lauma. She outdoes Nahida, her best replacement, with just her raw buff volume; throwing in the fact that Lauma’s quills account for a notable portion of the Main DPS’ damage makes it clear there’s no contest. Lunar-Bloom is one of the strongest archetypes in the game, and Lauma is a big reason why. For more information and DPS differences in some team archetypes, see the Teams & Synergies section here.
She is a bit less dramatic an increase when being used more for her general supportive capabilities, where her value shows more of a spectrum. She’s best-in-slot for Alhaitham, a sidegrade for Neuvillette lacking in vertical investment, and a slight downgrade for Kinich to his Nicole/Durin teams featuring Iansan or Emilie. While her value in these cases is less significant, her ability to competitively flex in for these units while retaining her unique value on one of the best teams in the game is hard for her potential replacements to match.
Nightweaver's Looking GlassR1Her Signature and generally the best option for all Bloom or Lunar-Bloom teams.
Etherlight SpindleluteR5F2P option and one of her best Weapons overall, with large amounts of Energy Recharge and Elemental Mastery - both stats Lauma needs.
A Thousand Floating DreamsR1Massive amounts of Elemental Mastery for Lauma and a small team Elemental Mastery buff, but no Energy Recharge.
Favonius CodexR5Can be used as a Generalist Support for non-ATK-scaling carries, or if the team desperately needs Energy.
Thrilling Tales of Dragon SlayersR5Can be strong when used as a generalist support to a strong ATK-scaling carry, like Kinich.
Sacrificial FragmentsR5Best 4* option for Elemental Mastery. Her Energy is from the Frostgrove Sanctuary, so recasting Skill does not help with Energy Recharge.
Silken Moon's SerenadeHer best option if another unit can hold Deepwood. In Nefer teams, she can be a better holder of the Set than Columbina. The 2-Piece effect can also help with Energy Recharge Requirements.
Deepwood MemoriesIf no other reliable holders are available, her best option as most of her teams have significant Dendro damage.
Gilded DreamsOnly better than 2PC combinations if at least 2 non-Dendro teammates are present.Energy Recharge Requirements should ideally be met through Substats, but an Energy Recharge Sands can be used if this cannot be achieved.
