The main DPS of Lunar-Bloom teams, one of the strongest archetypes in the game.
High QoL: has flexible rotations, great targeting and mobility, and significant i-frames.
Excellent baseline, while having an impressive ceiling through skill and/or vertical investment.
Reliant on Lauma to deal competitive damage.
Struggles to fit a sustain on her best teams.
Nefer is a 5-star Dendro Catalyst user who is most commonly played as an on-field Lunar-Bloom Main DPS. She accomplishes this through consuming Verdant Dew with special Charged Attacks enabled by her Skill. As a Moonsign unit, she also features important synergies with other characters in the faction; in Nefer’s case, they’re nigh mandatory.
Lunar-Bloom is a reaction that nominally replaces Bloom when certain Moonsign characters such as Lauma, Columbina, or Nefer are on the team. For most purposes, it functions similarly: it is triggered the same way, deals no damage, and spawns a normal Dendro Core which reacts as usual to deal Dendro damage unaffected by Lunar-Bloom bonuses. The only difference is that Lunar-Bloom also accumulates Verdant Dew, which is a resource shared between the team; it can be generated every 2.5 seconds and stack up to 3 times. Verdant Dew can be consumed by the aforementioned characters to deal direct Lunar-Bloom damage with some of their abilities, alongside additional effects. Direct Lunar-Bloom damage is treated as reaction damage and so scales with EM, reaction damage bonuses, ignores DEF, and does not benefit from standard DMG%; unlike typical reactions, it can naturally CRIT and uses the multiplier and scaling stat listed in the ability instead of being dependent on levels.
Nefer’s Moonsign Passive is what enables Blooms to be converted into Lunar-Blooms and increases the team’s Moonsign level by 1. It also increases Lunar-Bloom Base DMG - a separate multiplier to Reaction DMG - based on Nefer’s EM, to a maximum of 14% at 800 EM.
However, Nefer goes one step further. When Ascendent Gleam is triggered, her Ascension 1 Passive stops the spawning of Dendro Cores entirely, converting it instead to a “Seed of Deceit”. Thus, triggering Lunar-Bloom produces two different resources for Nefer.
Her Skill details where these resources are put to use. Using it causes her to gain the “Shadow Dance” state, allowing her to consume a Verdant Dew to use a special Charged Attack called “Phantasm Performance”. Using it doesn’t consume stamina, and Nefer summons two Phantasms to attack alongside her which deal 3 instances each of Lunar-Bloom damage. These are her main source of damage, especially since they’re further empowered by her Seeds of Deceit - consuming up to 3 to give herself an equal amount of “Veil of Falsehood” stacks for 9s, giving a unique 8% multiplier each and an extra 100 Elemental Mastery at full stacks. She can also cancel her animation fairly quickly with a dash or swap while her Phantasms continue to attack, giving her a healthy dose of i-frames and very fast-paced gameplay.
Nefer can use up to three Phantasm Performances per use of her Skill, and her Skill can hold up to two charges. This means she uses up to 6 Verdant Dew a rotation; while the charge-based nature of her Skill affords some flexibility, considering the cooldown on Verdant Dew generation, Nefer requires consistent Verdant Dew generation to function. In fact, it’s even possible to dash cancel her Charged Attack well enough that you have to buy time for Verdant Dew generation to keep up!
Nefer’s Burst doesn’t deal Lunar-Bloom damage, so it would be useless, but the aforementioned need to buy time means it has some niche value. Nefer’s standard Normal Attacks and her Ascension 4 Passive tied to them are thus rendered obsolete, since her Burst is a better time filler if you’re waiting on Verdant Dew generation.
Of special note to Nefer is her synergy with Lauma. Amongst Lauma’s host of buffs and debuffs - which would already be valuable - Lauma additionally has “Pale Hymn” stacks, which can be consumed when Nefer deals Lunar-Bloom damage to almost double it. This makes Lauma nearly irreplaceable for Nefer’s teams. They’re so tailored for each other that Nefer exactly uses all 18 stacks of Pale Hymn that Lauma can generate in a rotation! Nefer disabling Dendro Core production is also to avoid them wasting Pale Hymn when they rupture, though an added benefit is that it prevents their self-damage which makes running Nefer without a sustain easier.

Moonsign characters increase the Moonsign level of the party by a stage; at level 1, this grants the Nascent Gleam effect. This has almost no benefits of its own, and is mostly relevant for the incomplete effect of certain character, weapon, and artifact passives.
At level 2 and above, however, it grants Ascendant Gleam – unlocking the full effect of the above passives, alongside allowing non-Moonsign units to increase Lunar Reaction DMG% by up to 36% when using their Skill or Burst. This is based on their stats, which varies by element as follows:
All 5-star Moonsign units can additionally enable the use of and buff the Base Damage (separate from Reaction DMG%) of their corresponding Lunar Reaction. For example, Zibai adds 1 Moonsign level while activating and buffing Lunar-Crystallize, while Illuga just adds 1 Moonsign level to the team.
Nefer’s core gameplay loop can be simplified to the following:
Use teammates' abilities to apply buffs and establish consistent Hydro application to trigger Lunar-Bloom.
Tap Elemental Skill to enter the Shadow Dance state
Perform 3 special Charged Attacks
Repeat the above 2 steps again
Buy time with a teammate’s ability or Nefer’s Burst if outpacing Verdant Dew generation.
As mentioned earlier, Nefer can cancel her Charged Attack fairly quickly while her Phantasms execute their full attack by either dashing, swapping, or using Burst - usually the first one as you want Nefer staying on-field. There are two ways to time it: either watch for her sideways kick, or for the Verdant Dew meter to flash, then execute the cancel. Due to Verdant Dew’s fixed generation speed, Nefer’s cancels aren’t integral to her gameplay, but they make her smoother, provide safety, and are a fairly easy way to gain a good damage gain.
Columbina removes the need to buy time for Verdant Dew altogether thanks to her flexible extra generation. Without her, however, it can be needed. The best way to do this is by using a teammate’s ability, both for energy and damage but more importantly to refresh short-duration buffs such as those from the Instructor’s artifact set. Usually, it’s optimal to do this between Nefer’s Skill casts; however, this can change based on the in-combat situation and can be flexibly adjusted as required. If nothing her teammates could do would be particularly relevant, however, Nefer’s Burst is the next best option; the damage is mediocre, but it’s better than no damage and you get some style points to boot.
Nefer can forgo rotational consistency by waiting and instead opt for faster rotations. Nefer’s Skill Cooldowns and the Verdant Dew scarcity will eventually catch up to her - you can do 4 rotations like this on a good day - but it’s a fantastic DPS improvement while you can keep it going. This flexibility allows her to take advantage of bosses with limited damage windows, or even can just serve as a handy DPS gain before she has to swap back to longer rotations.
The notation used to refer to combat inputs in this section will be as follows:
E 3[CD] E 2[CD] CQ
A Standard Nefer Combo.
E 3[CD] > Swap > E 2[CD] CQ
A Swap variant of the previous Combo.
E 3[CD] E CD CQ CD
Nefer’s Burst can be used to buy time for Verdant Dew generation at the cost of some of her buffs, and can be skipped if not needed.
E 3[CD] E 2[CD] CQ
Thanks to Columbina’s Moonridge Dew, Nefer does not need to worry as much about waiting.
Lauma Q hE, Bina QE, Sucrose (N)ED(Q), Nefer E 3[CD] E 3[CD] (Q) (Columbina C)
At low ping, a slight delay after Lauma hE will make it easier for Columbina to establish a Hydro Aura and allow Sucrose to trigger a Reaction for Instructor.
Columbina EQ, Lauma hEQ, Sucrose ED, Nefer E 3[CD] E 3[CD] (Q), Sucrose ED
A Simple version of the previous rotation.

For the optimal artifact set up, the ally with highest stat requirements (generally Lauma or an invested Columbina) should hold Silken Moon Serenade as the 2-Pc set bonus provides some Energy Recharge, then equip 4-Pc Instructors and Deepwood Memories on the other 2 ally.
If unable to trigger Instructors (such as with Sucrose having tight windows to trigger Hydro Swirls), shuffle the Artifacts around Lauma equipping 2-Pc Elemental Mastery or Energy Recharge sets by having the other 2 allies hold Deepwood Memories and Silken Moon Serenade.
