Iansan is a 4-star Electro Polearm user most commonly played as a support for ATK-scaling DPS who feature significant movement in their kit, thanks to her Burst’s buff scaling with it. As a Natlan character, she has access to and utilizes Nightsoul mechanics.
Both Iansan’s Skill and Burst can put her in Nightsoul’s Blessing, during which she steadily consumes 6 Nightsoul points a second. The primary purpose of this is tied to Iansan’s Burst; using it grants 15 Nightsoul points and summons a “Kinetic Energy Scale”, a gauge which is tied to the active character and buffs their ATK based on Iansan’s ATK. For every Nightsoul point Iansan has, an additional 0.5% of her ATK is counted for the buff - if Iansan has 42 or more Nightsoul points, this gauge is filled and the conversion ratio is increased to a fixed 27% of Iansan’s ATK. The total buff Iansan can provide is also capped at a value depending on the Talent Level: the cap is 690 ATK at Talent Level 10 and 810 at Talent Level 13, requiring Iansan to have 2556 ATK and 3000 ATK respectively to meet it when at above 42 Nightsoul points.
Iansan’s Skill itself instantly grants 54 Nightsoul points, putting her at her cap and allowing her at a baseline to maintain the maximum ATK conversion ratio for around 2 seconds. Her Kinetic Energy Scale itself then allows Iansan to further extend this, as it logs the active character’s position every second and grants Nightsoul points based on the change in position. This accounts for almost any type of movement, whether vertical, horizontal, or through teleports - the only exception is Bursts such as Keqing or Alhaitham, which return the user to their initial position after the slashes. Doing so allows Iansan to maintain her ATK buff for the full 12 second duration of her Burst, after which her Nightsoul’s Blessing state is forcibly ended.
Most Natlan characters feature extensive movement as part of their kits, but other DPS units such as Clorinde or Plunging Attack DPS are also naturally effective at restoring Nightsoul points for Iansan. Some units such as Arlecchino or Flins can adjust their combos to achieve the same; the former can dash backwards before starting her N1 to use its gap closing properties to then move back, while the latter can freely Dash between his special Burst and Normal attack casts.
A secondary effect of Iansan’s Nightsoul’s Blessing is that she gains access to an enhanced Charged Attack called “Swift Stormflight”, which deals Electro damage. Beyond its Nightsoul point and Energy generation, Iansan’s Skill also features one other notable effect related to this - allowing Iansan to use Swift Stormflight at no stamina cost by using the Normal Attack input for 5 seconds after her Skill cast.
Using a Swift Stormflight in turn activates Iansan’s Ascension 1 Passive, which provides her a buff for 15 seconds; this buff increases Iansan’s ATK by 20% and improving Iansan’s Nightsoul point generation based on movement, making her easier to both build and use. Her second Ascension Passive is simpler, allowing Iansan to restore HP to the active character when restoring Nightsoul points for 10 seconds after a Nightsoul Burst is triggered. While the healing is insufficient to replace a sustain if one is needed, it does reduce sustain pressure for the team.
Rounding out her base kit are Iansan’s standard Normal and Charged Attacks, which are unspectacular and rarely used.
Finally, as a 4* character, Iansan’s Constellations are relatively accessible - and in Iansan’s case, quite powerful. Her C1 provides some nice Energy restoration, allowing her to build more ATK. Her C2 is far more notable - it allows Iansan to access her first Ascension Passive self-buff when using Burst, and additionally increases the active character’s ATK by 30% for the buff’s duration. This helps shorten Iansan’s rotations while simultaneously improving her support capabilities. C4 offers Iansan significant Quality-of-Life, allowing Iansan to generate Nightsoul points after a teammate uses their Burst while also helping with buff uptime by refunding any overflow Nightsoul points. Her C6 offers another significant boost, additionally adding a 25% DMG Bonus buff into her supportive repertoire and extending her Burst duration by 3 seconds; this retroactively also improves her C4’s value, since it helps keep her Nightsoul points up for the extra duration. While these are overall excellent boosts that help Iansan gain the edge over her competition while making her far easier to use, her best synergies and use cases remain relatively unchanged between C0 and C6.

Nightsoul is a mechanic involving Natlanese characters with two distinct components: “Nightsoul Blessing” and “Nightsoul Burst”. Nightsoul Blessing is a state allowing for the generation and/or consumption of Nightsoul points, with many Natlan character kits revolving around triggering effects based on this in some way.
Nightsoul Bursts, on the other hand, is an effect triggered whenever dealing Elemental damage while a Natlanese character is in the party, with the cooldown on its trigger decreasing from 18 to 12 to the minimum of 9 for each Natlanese character present; note that Pyro Traveler is not considered to be Natlanese despite access to Nightsoul mechanics. While having no effect on its own, many character abilities and some artifact set effects only activate when a Nightsoul Burst is triggered, often granting bonuses which can vary in usefulness but are rarely tied to core functionality.
The notation used to refer to combat inputs in this section will be as follows:
EQ
Iansan’s default combo at C2+, or at C0/C1 when paired with allies who can easily maintain her Nightsoul point generation and Iansan herself has sufficient ATK to reach her cap.
ECQ
Often used by C0/C1 Iansan in order to access the benefits of her first Ascension Passive; note that the Charged Attack can be accessed through the Normal Attack input.
ECQN1
If fighting an enemy with a permanent Hydro aura such as Tulpa and paired with a C6 Bennett, Iansan can trigger Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City for Pyro characters by fitting in a Normal Attack after her Burst.
Iansan’s special Charged Attack can be cast multiple times after her Skill is used, which can occasionally be useful if trying to spam Electro application for purposes such as shieldbreaking. She can also split her Burst and Skill uses, particularly relevant if trying to apply Electro multiple times during a rotation; just note that Burst should be used first, so as not to waste Nightsoul points.
Symphonist of ScentsR1Iansan’s strongest option, with its buff to the active character enabled thanks to the healing on her Ascension 4 Passive - though the uptime may not always be perfect on teams where Iansan is the sole Natlan character.
Favonius LanceR5Helps Iansan meet her own Energy Recharge requirements while also providing Energy for the team, alongside packing good Base ATK.
Tamayuratei no OhanashiR5An event Weapon which provides Iansan with both ATK and Energy Recharge%, though the former buff has imperfect uptime due to only lasting 10 seconds relative to Iansan’s 12-15 second Burst duraton.
MoonpiercerR5A craftable and niche option for Iansan on Dendro teams due to its buff.
Scroll of the Hero of Cinder CityTypically Iansan’s best option, providing her with not only the ability to grant a potent 40% DMG Bonus for the team but also restoring Energy for her, easing her build requirements. Note that this Set requires Iansan to react with the element of the DPS she is looking to buff.
Noblesse ObligeA secondary supportive option if Scroll cannot be used, since Iansan always uses her Burst and her buff recipient is almost always ATK-scaling.Meeting Iansan’s Energy Recharge requirements takes priority over other stats, while an ATK% Sands should be run otherwise to help with her buff.
When using Favonius Lance - as Iansan commonly does - CRIT Rate can be considered if otherwise unable to reliably trigger its Passive.
Burst| With Favonius Lance | Other Weapons | |
|---|---|---|
| Solo Electro | 200-210% | 220-280% |
| Double Electro | 140-150% | 180-200% |
| Reduction from C1 | -40% | -50% |
| Reduction per Extra Team Favonius Trigger | -20% | -20% |
| Reduction in Triple Natlan teams | -10% | -20% |
