In most teams where Nicole’s Burst is used her Energy Recharge requirements can typically be met through her Weapon and/or Substats; if an Energy Recharge Sands is required, her Burst is likely not worth using, with only very niche exceptions.

Lackluster Elemental Burst.
Nicole is a 5-star Pyro Catalyst user who is most commonly played as a support and sustain. She provides immensely strong shields and a large teamwide ATK buff with her Skill, which allows her to contribute some damage using her teammates’ stats. As a Hexerei unit, she also features important synergies with other characters in the faction.
Nicole is an exceedingly simple character, with her Elemental Skill serving as her main ability. Using it generates an extremely sturdy shield and applies “Grace of Kenosis” to the team, increasing ally ATK by a portion of her own. At Talent Level 10, this provides up to 600 ATK, based on up to 4000 of Nicole’s own ATK. Buffs from allies and artifacts sets present on Nicole when casting her Skill also count towards this, with the exception of most flat ATK buffs – such as Nicole’s own Grace of Kenosis.
Both her Ascension Passives are also tied to this: her first Ascension Passive allows her to upgrade an on-field ally’s buff to “Guidance of Kenosis” until they switch out, providing another flat 300 ATK; this occurs after 3 seconds by default, but is applied automatically to Hexerei characters. Her Ascension Passive 4 allows Nicole to more or less permanently upgrade her own buff - while this does not affect her Skill buff, it is nonetheless helpful considering how many aspects of Nicole’s kit scale off of her ATK.
Her Burst meanwhile introduces the concept of coordinated attacks by allowing her to cast four “Arcane Projections”, which deal damage with the multiplier listed on the ability but using all of the on-field character’s stats and element. Unfortunately, Nicole’s coordinated attacks from her Burst are extremely weak by default. Her Hexerei Passive improves this, giving them an additional multiplier which uses Nicole’s own ATK with the other stats still used for damage calculation remaining the same. This is similar to effects like Shenhe’s Skill, commonly referred to as “quills” by the community; since Nicole tends to build much higher ATK than her teammates, this is typically beneficial and allows her to Burst to contribute meaningful damage, though it still can occasionally prove not worth its cast time.
Finally, Nicole’s Normal Attacks are unremarkable and rarely ever used; still, as a Catalyst, their ability to natively apply Pyro can be useful to trigger reactions or pass element checks.

Characters part of the Hexerei faction, after completing their Witch’s Rite Story Quest, unlock special Passive abilities in combat. These are activated when there are 2 Hexerei characters on the team, with Nicole themselves counting as one.
Nicole is extremely simple to play, only requiring that players use her Skill. The question of whether to use her Burst after is the extent of her gameplay nuance; as a general rule, her Burst can be considered if at least one - and ideally two - of the following conditions are met:
She is placed right before the main carry in the rotation.
The main carry of the team is a Hexerei unit.
It is needed to fill time while waiting for cooldowns and no other obviously better options are available.
Her Burst’s value also decreases if running vertically invested characters whose constellations primarily grant them additional multipliers over raw stat buffs even when the above conditions apply, with C2 Varka being a notable example.
Nicole’s pull value is centred on the fact that in exchange for her flexibility, her team options often lack in ceiling potential; furthermore, she can often face competition from 4* characters like Bennett or Iansan if the teamwide nature of her buffs are not necessary or if other buffs such as RES Shred are preferred. In practice, it makes it so while Nicole can often find herself as many characters’ optimal teammate, these characters are rarely the strongest option and she might only serve as an incremental upgrade - if even that! This means she’s usually only a sizable upgrade in damage when paired with off-field characters with significant damage who do not snapshot buffs. Many such characters are often limited 5*s in their own right, and in turn can end up reliant on Nicole’s buffs to serve as a notable upgrade, with Durin being the most prominent example of this. This can be an expensive proposition to upgrade an already off-meta unit.
All that being said, Nicole and Durin form a very strong and flexible core together, able to prop up many DPS units to competitive levels to being able to carry all on their own, while still being good units when separated. They also both offer good vertical investment, often being better than the vertical options of the carries they’re paired with. Finally, Nicole avoids many of the quality of life pitfalls her competition can fall into, since she imposes no mobility restrictions and offers significant comfort with the bulk and interruption immunity from her shield. She can thus be a good pull for those who have already invested into the carries she can support, or serve as a good pull for players who already have a high ceiling team and are looking to patch holes in their account.
Angelos' HeptadesR1Her Signature and generally the best option due to providing her Energy, an additional team buff, and a massive dose of ATK.
Skyward AtlasR1If not using her Burst, all Nicole cares about for her own benefit is getting as much ATK as possible.
Thrilling Tales of Dragon SlayersR5Sacrifices some of her own buff to instead provide 48% ATK to one teammate once every 20s, which is often optimal if the rotation can accommodate its use.
Oathsworn EyeR5F2P option; albeit possibly rendered inaccessible due to the age of the event it was associated with. Provides an ample amount of ATK and Energy Recharge, making it useful in teams where Nicole uses her Burst.
Favonius CodexR5Potential option if Nicole’s teammates are extremely Energy hungry, especially if Nicole is also using her own Burst or her teammates do not scale with ATK; however, it often comes at too high a cost to her buff.
Celestial GiftNicole’s best option thanks to its potent teamwide DMG% buff and helpful 2P Energy Recharge%, with Nicole almost always being the optimal holder for it in a team.
A Day Carved From Rising WindsGives slightly more ATK% than the above as long as Nicole uses a Normal Attack before her skill. In most teams where Nicole’s Burst is used her Energy Recharge requirements can typically be met through her Weapon and/or Substats; if an Energy Recharge Sands is required, her Burst is likely not worth using, with only very niche exceptions.
