High Cryo application allowing for strong Melt driving.
Good on-field DPS for an enabler.
Very accessible Skill floor.
Expensive teambuilding, with poor performance outside of his optimal teams.
Lohen is a 5-star Cryo Polearm user most commonly played as on-field DPS and Melt enabler for off-field teammates. His gameplay consists of accumulating resources with his state-enhanced Normal Attacks to cast his special Skill, which is further empowered by stacks Lohen accumulates when his teammates deal significant damage. As a Hexerei unit, he also features important synergies with other characters in the faction.
As alluded to above, Lohen enters a special “Masterstroke” state for 13 seconds when casting his Elemental Skill; this enhances Lohen’s Normal and Charged Attacks which are his main source of damage, converting them to Cryo, increasing their scalings, and reducing the latter’s stamina cost. It also allows for the accumulation of two resources: “Joy” and “Will to Win”. The first is represented by a gauge that appears next to Lohen and lets him cast his Special Skill when full, while the second is measured by the pointer attached to the gauge to power it up. The Special Skill can be used up to 3 times per Masterstroke state to deal 4 instances of Cryo damage per cast.
As for the resources themselves, Joy is built up when Lohen hits an enemy with his Normal or Charged Attacks; it maxes out after 6 hits, with Lohen conveniently hitting 3 times total when using a Charged Attack with its preceding Normal Attack. Meanwhile, Will to Win is gained when allies deal damage to enemies that is more than 10 times Lohen’s Base ATK - roughly 12000 damage at level 90. His Ascension 1 Passive grants him additional Will to Win if the damage instance exceeds 30 times Lohen’s Base ATK, making it valuable to pair Lohen with strong off-field DPS.
This is additionally indirectly incentivized by how, due to all his multihits, Lohen applies a lot of Cryo. In fact, he even has a special application rate coded in! His Normal and Charged Attacks are allowed to apply Cryo 6 times every 5 seconds, which he can attain in around 3-4s when repeatedly alternating Normal and Charged Attacks. Since this also caps out his Joy, he can then use his Skill while that 5 second timer resets. Lohen doesn’t always use his special Skill immediately, but the point remains: all this Cryo application makes it very simple for Lohen to allow Pyro allies to Melt their off-field attacks, giving them a huge boost to their damage and thus allowing Lohen to easily gain Will to Win.
His other Passives double down on this with the conditions stipulated by their buffs. His second Ascension Passive requires allies to trigger a Cryo reaction to grant them and Lohen a 15% ATK buff, while his Utility Passive increases his Skill’s talent level when using his standard Elemental Skill for 9 seconds - increased to 15 seconds if an ally has a talent level higher than his Skill. Wrapping things up is his Hexerei Passive, which grants him a 40% Normal and Charged Attack DMG Bonus for 6 seconds if he has more than 50% of his Will to Win meter filled when casting Skill or Burst.
To that end, Lohen’s Burst more or less functions as a better version of his special Skill. dealing 6 stronger instances of Cryo damage that are powered up further by his Will to Win at the time; if Lohen has Masterstroke, it also increases the state’s duration so as to not cut down on his uptime with its animation. It is often used in place of his special Skill, but can also be used in addition to it depending on the team, rotation, and gameplay scenario.
Finally, while not in the Masterstroke state, Lohen’s base Normal and Charged Attacks are not worth using.

Characters part of the Hexerei faction, after completing their Witch’s Rite Story Quest, unlock special Passive abilities in combat. These are activated when there are 2 Hexerei characters on the team, with Lohen themselves counting as one.
Lohen’s core gameplay loop consists of the following:
Rotate through teammates to setup buffs and off-field damage
Use his base Elemental Skill to enter Masterstroke
Repeatedly alternate his Normal and Charged Attacks
Use his special Skill and Burst for Cryo Application or, if active, his Hexerei Passive buffs
End Lohen’s field time when ally off-field damage and/or buffs expire, even if there is time left on his Masterstroke duration
Further nuance tends to revolve around Lohen’s combos, which are explained more thoroughly below.
The notation used to refer to combat inputs in this section will be as follows:
As mentioned above, Lohen’s optimal combos revolve around repeating a string of 1 Normal Attack and a following Charged Attack (N1C), which can be performed by holding down the Attack button. However, note that this input is not bufferable; in other words, the player has to manually repeat the input when his Charged Attack lands, as he will not automatically cancel out of the animation if the Attack button is held down. This can be unintuitive, and some players may find it easier to perform a quick tap then immediately hold down the button instead to perform an N1C.
In a vacuum, repeating N1Cs is optimal for Lohen’s damage. When taking into account Lohen’s Hexerei passive and/or the need to maintain Cryo application in his best teams, however, it becomes important for Lohen to weave his Skill or Burst between his combos every 6 seconds. Thus, a standard Lohen combo can end up looking like this:
2(N1C) → Skill → N1C for 6s → Skill → N1C for 6s more → Skill
The 6s will include 4 to 6 repetitions of N1C depending on the player's execution, ideally looking like this:
2(N1C) → Skill → 6(N1C) → Skill → 6(N1C) → Skill
His Burst can substitute a use of his Skill in any of the above combos, functioning more or less as an enhanced version of it. He can also opt to use all casts of his special Skill and Burst if looking to squeeze more damage into a given rotation at the cost of overall DPS, which can be optimal in certain situations such as limited boss DPS windows or at the end of a battle.
Finally, it can be optimal to cut Lohen’s field time short for faster overall rotations and to refresh buffs and any off-field damage. To do this, simply reduce the number of N1Cs between Skill casts in the above combos.
