Review
Excellent competitive Elation main DPS,
Good damage profile for AoE and single-target,
Fully functional without other Elation units as a Follow-up ATK character,
Extremely speedy and scales with bonus SPD,
Player skill is very rewarded,
Versatile teammate options,
Great Energy economy and can build ERR for free,
Outstanding vertical investment options,
Has room to grow with future characters (both Elation and not),
Slay! (YOUR ENEMIES).
Can be quite difficult to play depending on the encounter and teammates,
SP negative and always wants to be using his Skill,
Requires very heavy stat investment to reach his peak.
The new form of Aventurine is a speed-scaling Quantum Elation DPS that can be used in both Elation and Follow-up teams. He's a highly competitive performer who can regularly launch his Elation Skill outside of Aha Instants, and doing so will buff his next Elation Skill inside the Aha Instant. He grants the team Punchline from having teammates use attacks, and gains his unique Fervor resource from the same conditions. His Elation Skill is instead considered a Follow-up ATK if he is the only Elation unit in the team, and will gain extra Certified Banger and Punchline from teammates attacking, while also granting increasing SPD to Aha until the next Instant. He's very damn good, and can make excellent use of many of the more recent units that have been released, and also has excellent vertical investment options.
Aventurine's got a new brand deal or something that he's using as a personal gambit and this comes with a very particular new waveflair (see what I did there, very good). I'll be calling him Aventurine SP or Waventurine, or just Aventurine from now on. If I bring up the original, I'll make explicit mention.
Given some of the crumbs so far, Aventurine having Elation powers may not be too surprising, especially considering his gambler nature. Whatever the case may be, he wields the power very comfortably.
The biggest thing to note with Waventurine is that he's the first Elation character who doesn't seem to actually care about being put with other Elation characters. This is... Frankly very appealing to me, and likely to a lot of other players as well.
Getting to dip his toes into the Follow-up archetype yet again means he can make use of all of the extremely powerful non-Elation supports we've gotten access to, and it means he's got a good amount of team flexibility as well.
You can of course, put him with the expected Elation teammates and see great success, as you would expect, but the extra team options mean you can actually have a second team that is capable of dealing Elation DMG now, and that may become a very relevant boon to have (and it's lowkey his better team).
And yes, of course, if you've staunchly avoided Yao Guang this whole time yet still want to participate in an Elation environment, then Waventurine will allow you to do so. There's a lot that's compelling about this guy.
It starts with his Talent. Right off the bat, Aventurine's Certified Banger duration is increased by 1 turn, for a new total of 3 turns. Getting a longer CB duration is always appreciated since it makes it easier to maintain higher Elation DMG output.
Aventurine has a unique resource called Fervor which caps out at 30. Whenever a teammate (not Waventurine himself) uses an attack, he will gain 1 Fervor for himself and 1 Punchline for the team. When Fervor reaches 10 points, Aventurine will immediately use his Elation Skill for free taking into account a fixed 20 Punchline. Note, this is like Evanescia's E1, and does not convert the fixed Punchline into Certified Banger.
After using his Elation Skill from the Fervor mechanic, he will enhance his next Elation Skill inside the Aha Instant. This Enhanced version will only be used inside of an actual Aha Instant, so you can't trigger this with Elation Trailblazer's Ultimate, but you can with Yao Guang's Ultimate (since she summons a real Aha Instant).
While Aventurine has Certified Banger, his Skill additionally deals 40% Quantum Elation DMG to all enemies, and his Ultimate deals 72% Quantum Elation DMG to all enemies.
As always with Elation characters, the Talent is predominantly for describing the Certified Banger boost they get, but Aventurine interestingly breaks the mould by having an extra bit of juiciness. Free Elation Skills is always going to be good, and getting to Enhance the Elation Skill you use automatically in the Aha Instant is even better. Stacking Fervor is incredibly easy as well, as you'll soon see.
While we're talking about it, let's go over the Elation Skill. Aventurine will topple a giant stack of Soulglad summer edition, dealing 60% Elation DMG to all enemies, and then additionally dealing 10 Bounces for 18% Elation DMG. Yes, I know, another Bounce damage dealer, but like the other greats, Aventurine gets to do this frequently enough that it shouldn't really ever be a problem, even in the crazy Pure Fiction stages, since he also does good AoE on every attack that matters.
This Elation Skill can end up doing a total of 240% Elation DMG to a single enemy. If you need context on how good that is, that's the same multiplier as what Silver Wolf 999 has on her Enhanced Basic ATK. Yes, hers uses CB instead of fixed Punchline, but that's still pretty good. Due to the Bounces, it also deals extra Toughness DMG as well, so that can be useful in a pinch.
The Enhanced Elation Skill you can unlock to be used during the Aha Instant deals the exact same hits as his Regular Elation Skill, 60% to all and then 10 Bounces of 18%. Then it deals an additional number of Bounces based on the amount of Fervor you had before the Elation Skill; all Fervor is consumed on use, and for each 1 point of Fervor consumed, 1 extra Bounce of 21% Elation DMG will be added, up to 630% at 30 Fervor.
This results in a potential max multiplier of 240% + 630% = 870% Elation DMG to a single enemy. Yeah. So if you ever wonder how the hell the Enhanced Elation Skill deals so much more damage, this is probably why. Granted, you're not always going to be at 30 Fervor when it's time for an Aha Instant, so it's more of a max potential kind of thing, but even with just the basic 10 that you'd need in order for the Enhanced Skill to be used, it's an extremely high amount of damage.
The rest of his kit is less interesting and is the more typical Elation character style. Pretty much all of the power is concentrated into the Elation Skills or given via Certified Banger effects, and this isn't much different.
Aventurine's Skill deals 240% ATK to all enemies and grants him 4 Punchline and 4 Fervor on use. This will also deal 40% Elation DMG to all enemies when Aventurine has CB. Without CB, this Skill does no meaningful damage as Aventurine does not scale with ATK in any significant way, so feel free to disregard the ATK multiplier.
His Ultimate is actually a little more interesting than I let on. It deals 400% ATK to all enemies (meaningless) and grants 6 Punchline and 8 Fervor on use. The Ultimate then increases Aventurine's SPD by 30% for 4 (!) turns.
A 4-turn speed buff is unheard of, and it's for someone who is already above average on the SPD ladder, having a base SPD of 107, meaning this is a +32.1 SPD effect, for FOUR TURNS. The Ultimate also only costs 130 Energy, so this is very easy to keep up for pretty much the entirety of the fight after the first use, and the extra SPD is very appreciated and actually plays into one of his later Bonus Traces. The extra 72% Elation DMG dealt to all enemies with CB is also nothing to scoff at.
Already very competent, but there is yet more to discuss.
A2 is essentially the same thing as what Super Wolf has, a SPD to Elation conversion Trace, but with some slightly different numbers.
When SPD is 140 or higher, Aventurine's Elation is increased by 30%. For every 1 SPD exceeding the threshold, this additionally increases this unit's Elation by 1%, and this can take into account up to 200 excess SPD.
For reference, Super Wolf's Trace is 2% Elation for every 1 excess SPD, but it has a higher starting threshold of 160 and takes an excess of 100 into account. This means that, while Aventurine's is numerically inferior, it's not by a very significant amount, and it's also substantially easier to start gaining the bonus Elation from SPD.
At 200 SPD, a threshold that both of these characters like, Aventurine's bonus Elation from his converter Trace is 90%, and Super Wolf's bonus Elation from her converter is 130%. Both big numbers already, so the difference ends up being smaller, and should any super speed boosts appear in the future, Aventurine can continue to benefit from them for quite a while.
A4 is a team-based Trace, similar to what Acheron and The Herta have, changing the effects based on the paths of the teammates you choose.
If there are other Elation characters besides Aventurine in the team when the battle starts, all allies have their Elation boosted by 20%, and Aventurine gains an additional 80% Elation on top of this. A free 100% Elation to himself is insane since it's also on top of whatever he gets from his A2 conversion Trace. This lets him get very impressive numbers on his Enhanced Elation Skill, especially if there's a lot of Punchline and Fervor being factored in.
Important to note that this activates even with just a single other Elation character, so it's potentially something to look out for in future teambuilding.
However, if Aventurine is the ONLY Elation character in the team, then his Elation Skill will also be considered as being a Follow-up ATK. Oh yeah, it's all coming together. In addition to this, whenever an ally uses an attack, Aventurine gains 2 points of Certified Banger, and 1 point of Punchline, AND every single teammate attack will increase Aha's SPD by 25, lasting until the end of the next Aha Instant.
This ensures Aventurine has a steady stream of Certified Banger to maintain his Talent's effects, and surprisingly good Punchline generation, especially in a constantly attacking team archetype (like Follow-up is known for). The extra 25 SPD for Aha is to offset the lack of other Elation units, since usually Aha's SPD depends on the SPD of the total number of Elation characters.
Funny thing with this is that it waaay overcompensates, since this 25 SPD STACKS. You'll be having Aha with absolutely absurd SPD values, well into the 300s, maybe even higher depending on what's happening. This greatly accelerates Aha and results in laughably more Aha Instants than you would get even with a full Elation team. It's of course slightly offset by the fact that Aventurine is the only one acting during said Aha Instant, but the sheer throughput in Elation Skills will be enough to bring anyone to their knees.
This Bonus Trace is how Aventurine breaks free from the shackles of Elation characters thus far and functions on his own merits without needing to rely on allies to facilitate one's own conditions, and spoiler, there are absolutely fantastic teammate options for Follow-up teams. This is an outstanding Bonus Trace to have, especially for a character on the Path of Elation.
Lastly, the A6. Aventurine gets a free out-of-combat 48% CRIT DMG boost. After a teammate uses a Basic ATK, Skill, Follow-up ATK, or Ultimate, all allies' CRIT DMG increases by 48% for 3 turns, and Aventurine gains 2 Fervor. This can trigger up to 6 times and the trigger count is reset whenever Aventurine uses his Skill again.
Interesting to note that this extra Fervor generation excludes ally Elation Skills, but it's also not like it matters too much since everyone can do three of these basic actions. This Fervor generation is on top of the bonuses he already has, so Fervor can be stacked up very damn fast if your team is built for it.
Putting all of these Bonus Traces together with his base kit, and it all flows wonderfully, making it borderline impossible to be left without his important resources, and again making it possible to play him as a solo Elation carry in a team of non-Elation teammates.
It's beautiful.
You don't need them, as usual, but I do want to make special mention of something here. A reminder to people that, by the cost system this community has concocted, E0S1 is the same investment as E1S0, and should be treated as such. For characters like Evanescia who have a disproportionately powerful E1 compared to her S1, this kind of vertical investment would be a no-brainer for those who want it.
This is also the case with Aventurine Waveflair. His Eidolons are particularly standout even among his peers, and so if you have any intention of vertically investing in Aventurine, these Eidolons should be the first thing you consider.
But again, you do not NEED them in order to perform well and clear the endgame. That is unlikely to change, and if it ever does, trust me, I will be the first one to blow a gasket.
With that said, E1. Aventurine's All-Type RES PEN increases by 24%. Already insane. His Talent's Fervor effects are enhanced, letting him perform his regular Elation Skill at every interval of 10 Fervor instead of just once when he reaches 10. This means an Elation Skill is used at 10, 20, and then 30 Fervor.
Even putting aside the RES PEN, this DRAMATICALLY improves Waventurine's performance by an outlandish extent, and really is comparable to the boost in power that Eva gets from her own E1. For the amount of value you get from this one Eidolon, its acquisition is almost unreasonably early for this kind of a power boost. This alone gives Aventurine so much staying power, and this itself is very impressive since he's already capable of filling teams that are impossible to facilitate for any other Elation characters.
If you have any intention of playing Waventurine long-term, then you absolutely should consider for yourself if you want to get this Eidolon. It doesn't have to be on his release- god no, it doesn't- but on a future rerun you should really give it some thought.
This is especially important to consider when it also brings you one step away from his E2. The upper limit of Fervor is increased to 50 points, and reaching 40 and 50 points will also trigger his E1 effects for yet more Elation Skills. Getting to these values might be hard... if not for his E2 also giving him 4 points of Fervor for each Elation Skill he uses. And yes, the increased Fervor count does also add extra Bounces on his Enhanced Elation Skill.
It's actually even comparable to his E1, and it's also an incredible value. Both of these Eidolons, at least for me, overshadow his Signature Light Cone as vertical investment options, and they play into each other perfectly as well. The Signature is very useful for easing build requirements and is a huge stat stick, but it is not irreplaceable, and these Eidolon bonuses can be worth far more for you.
If you reach this stage on Aventurine, I genuinely don't think you'll struggle with anything for an extremely considerable length of time, especially since he has two team archetypes that could get further new supports that Aventurine himself can benefit from.
E4 is surprisingly good for an E4, granting allies 18% DEF ignore for 3 turns whenever Aventurine uses his Skill. Good but obviously not a good stopping point.
Lastly, the E6. Elation DMG dealt by Aventurine is merrymade by 25%, resulting in a final 1.25x multiplier to all Elation DMG. In addition to this, after Aventurine has used his regular Elation Skill 2 times in this combat, all future uses of his Elation Skill will become Enhanced. These Enhanced Elation Skills also do not consume Fervor when used outside of the Aha Instant.
Complete and total extermination.
There's not that much to actually talk about because Aventurine Waveflair has largely addressed any potential problems through his own kit.
Except for maybe one thing. Before I mention his teams and such, I want to say that the character himself is quite simple. As mentioned, the kit is largely complete and self-sufficient, and yet there is a lot of potential for optimisation when playing him in his actual teams.
It's in a similar vein to how Robin Summeretto is, where the difficulty fluctuates depending on who exactly you're paired with. In this regard, you should definitely keep in mind that YOU, the player, the person reading this spiel, have a very significant effect on the actual impact that Aventurine has in a fight, and that playing him and his teams well can result in even greater and faster encounters.
His SPD is another thing that can be tricky. SPD tuning is the bane of even the more seasoned players, let alone casuals, but is a very important consideration for a character like this who does scale with SPD. If you want to reach the all-important 200 SPD breakpoint in combat, you need to factor in how your other teammates can help with that, and how Aventurine's own Ultimate can enable that, but it still needs to be actually used first. What other gear do you have that can make that easier or harder, like the Diviner relic set, or his Signature Light Cone.
I believe the skill floor to be quite low actually, very approachable even for new players, but the skill ceiling of this character can be... frighteningly high. Do not believe anyone who says otherwise. It's easy to win with this character, but that does not mean that the character is 'easy'.
Anyway, teams.
Surprise, full Elation works with the Elation character; police found the car and also the wheels. With the aid of the already fast-acting Elation supports like Yao Guang and the Elation Trailblazer, Aventurine can have his Fervor stacked very quickly and have his Enhanced Elation Skill absolutely decimate the opponents.
You should note that the Aha Instant from Yao Guang can help you to control when you regain access to your regular Elation Skill, since at E0 you only do it once through Fervor points between Enhanced Elation Skills. The team is very functional as you would expect, and Aventurine can stack a really surprisingly high amount of Certified Banger here as well, not quite as high as Eva (lol, lmao even) but enough that in combination with his free 100% Elation boost from simply being with other Elation characters, he's gonna be hitting for Very Funny Numbers™.
The problem with this then is that there are a lot of Elation main DPS characters, and they all want Yao Guang and the Elation Trailblazer to help them (and sometimes Sparxie). It's such a shame that Aventurine is also... Hey now, wait a minute—
Yeah, a reminder if you've somehow been asleep up to this point, Aventurine doesn't care about the rest of the Elation troupe; he's his own man and can do what he wants. Enter the Follow-up squad. Remember that even though you lose the 100% Elation from switching teams, you can make up the difference quite easily with generic boosts or specific boosts to Follow-up ATKs, since in these teams his Elation Skill is also considered as a FUA.
One of the expected 'best' combinations is of course, Ashveil and Mortenax Blade. Both of them are constantly throwing out attacks, not just with a high frequency but also a high level of power. This, along with Aventurine's bonuses for being the lone Elation unit in the team, easily facilitates everything that Aventurine wants to be doing, and actually is, in my opinion, the better team to put him with.
The three of them together do an immense amount of damage, and all are quite significant contributors to the overall damage of the team, with Aventurine pulling ahead ever so slightly. This has the added benefit of freeing up whatever support was previously with Ashveil and Blade to go to another team, be it Robin SP or Welt or what have you.
Playing sustainless and keeping Welt to construct Team Hubby is obviously very good for very obvious Welt-shaped reasons, or going with another buffing support for even more damage is also good, but you may be surprised to find that the standard sustain option here isn't Huohuo.
... Okay, it is still Huohuo as well, but a more interesting character to put here is actually Hyacine. Hyacine is also extremely fast-acting since she builds for SPD. Little Ica is also fast-acting because he pierces the heavens every time Hyacine acts. These two things together play into not just Aventurine's conditions, but also Ashveil's and Mortenax's, resulting in everyone getting ramped up very quickly and very easily — and also being nigh unkillable because it's Hyacine, for goodness' sake.
Of course, your options are not limited to just these lads (and Hyacine); you have a very impressive roster to choose from. All you need to consider is how often the team can attack, and if you're able to glean benefit for Aventurine from it. In this regard, if you wanted to play Waventurine with Topaz and Jade, that team would actually work quite well if you have verticals for those other characters, and it's also very thematically appropriate.
Naturally, I wouldn't really recommend doing this if you never invested in Topaz or Jade since they're very outdated at E0 now, nor would I suggest acquiring them just for the meme of the team, but it's to illustrate that you have a lot more options than you may think.
Any support or sub-DPS who fills the criteria of fast acting can work very well. Robin SP is a very recent addition who also fits the team perfectly since she provides a lot of additional actions to Aventurine, Energy to upkeep his SPD, and buffs the entire team while also contributing attack count and damage herself.
Tribbie, of course, also works as the older Follow-up archetype support, especially very nice to have on the team if she's at E1, and to a (much) lesser extent now, Cipher as well, though do keep in mind that it's going to get a lot harder to play the more out of the way you go.
Honourable mention to Asta, the hidden GOAT of SPD chicanery. She's a secret tech for Super Wolf to have the SPD breakpoints you need alongside the power of DanceDanceDance, and the same can be said for Aventurine since he also has basically the same Bonus Trace as Silver Wolf 999. It shouldn't be your first choice (probably because you're a filthy non-believer and don't have her built), but it is a choice that you DO have.
You have UNO. It came free with your Xbox.
Beyond that, and looking to the future, there's still a lot of stuff that could be feasibly added to improve Aventurine Waveflair even more. Not that that'd necessarily be super appealing compared to his own crazy vertical investment options.
To that end, it's actually pretty compelling (for me personally) to go for his Eidolons now, since really anything can work with him, and I'm confident in my own ability to pilot him and his teams. Any new characters that come out that can work with him are just going to be a nice bonus, and even then, if he works just fine without them, then I can dedicate my resources towards other more exclusive and important aftersales additions.
I have seen how some people believe that it's always worrying when a DPS has such strong Eidolons because it implies that they won't get any support for a long time, but this hasn't really been true, and it seems a lot more like agenda-pushing. Besides, it's just not for us to know what Hoyo has in store for us, so instead of guessing at the future, use your head with the information we have available to us now.
If you like Waventurine, you should get him. If you REALLY like him, you can go for verticals. If you don't care, you don't need to do anything. There is no need to complicate things further.
For my own part, I've already said several times in this review that I think what he does is extremely good, and having the ability to run Elation DPS on two of the three encounters at the endgame (one with standard setup YG EMC, and one with Waventurine) can open up a lot of opportunities and possibilities, and that's exciting for me because I value having options most highly.
Just please, Hoyo, don't repeat this endgame cycle ever again. Good lord, that fudgin' deer that I hate. I cleared that, even with budget garbage, but I want you to know that if you struggled with it, you are ABSOLUTELY not alone.
Honkai: Star Rail is a game where team building matters most and while our tier list takes the optimal setup into account, a lot of characters can work and do well - even those ranked lower - when you invest into them. Also for story or lower difficulties of Simulated Universe, you don't need to worry about ratings and tiers. You can safely clear that content even with F2P characters as long as you build your team correctly.

Significantly boost his damage and attack frequency. Allows Aventurine to use his Elation Skill up to two more times per Aha Instant, leading to more attacks to fuel his Follow-up ATK teams, while he also gets a 24% All-Type RES PEN. However, this Eidolon's value depends on his teammate option and whether they can launch attacks frequently enough to consistently reach 3 Elation Skills.
Another powerful early Eidolon, increases his Fervor cap and generation, up to a maximum of 50 Fervor. This allows for yet another 2 Elation Skills per rotation, and causes his Enhanced Elation Skill to deal up to 50 bounce instances. Similarly, the value depends on obtaining enough Fervor to launch these extra Elation Skills.
Surprisingly useful Eidolon 4, enabling all allies to ignore an additional 18% DEF when dealing damage. While he can slightly overcap on DEF Reduction/Ignore in his premium Follow-up ATK teams, the buff being extended to his other teammates makes this a notable team damage increase.
Yet another game-changing Eidolon with a unique merrymake 1.25x damage multiplier, and enhances all his Elation Skills after the first 2 to deal bounce damage based on the current Fervor without consuming the stacks.
