Review

Mizusumi Aya is a Hollow Affinity Support with an extreme focus on CD Reduction and Turn Meter boosting, who can also double as a Sustain under the right conditions.

Skill 1

Aya’s Skill 1 is a single-target attack with average damage for a Support; however, it also has a powerful yet infrequent personal CD Reduction effect tied to it, which, upon activation, will reduce all Animus Skill CDs by 1 turn. Unfortunately, even at max rank, the chance to trigger this is only 25%.

Since Aya only has a single active Skill, she ends up using her S1 quite a lot in between casts of her S3. This makes the upgrades of this ability and the cooldown reduction activation chance they provide at lvl3 and lvl5 on top of the extra SPD they grant far more impactful. Based on this, it’s not a bad idea to raise S1 to level 4 for the SPD, or go all the way to max out the Cooldown Reduction chance if you plan to play Aya as one of your main animus.

Skill 2

S2 is a teamwide Purify and Heal that automatically activates every time Aya takes her turn, cleansing 1 Debuff from her entire team and healing those who had a Debuff removed by up to 15% of their own max HP.

While situational, the potential healing output of this passive is staggering when facing Debuff spam, especially when Aya’s own Turn Meter generation isn’t impaired. At level 5, Aya is capable of Purifying the entire team even if she’s affected by a hard CC that would prevent her from acting, which can prove invaluable in a PVP setting. Keep in mind, however, that Forgetfulness still disables Aya’s Passive. For PVE, the skill has low priority as it’s generally better to focus on [Immunity] and conditionless healing/shielding abilities.

Skill 3

While Aya’s S1 and S2 are certainly solid, her S3 is where her kit really starts to come together. Upon using her S3, Aya and her teammates all receive up to a 40% Turn Meter boost, and all allied Animus and Shell Skills receive a 1-turn reduction to their active CDs.

Also, whenever any unit on the battlefield, friend or foe, dies, Aya’s S3 immediately receives a 2-turn reduction to its active CD. If that passive effect triggers when her S3 is not on CD, then Aya immediately gets up to a whopping 80% Turn Meter boost.

As the core of her kit, it should be no surprise that raising Aya’s S3 to the maximum level, if possible, should be a top priority. At Lvl 2 and Lvl 4, the ability gains significant improvements to its passive and active turn meter boosting effects, while at Lvl 2, its on-death cooldown reduction effect is maximized, and to cap it off at Lvl 5, its cooldown is reduced.

PVE

In PVE, Aya can struggle to fit into most teams when up against premium buffers and debuffs with powerful offensive amplification capabilities, which Aya lacks. Aya offers no Damage amplification of her own; her healing is highly conditional and requires your teammates to suffer from the Debuffs first, and her Turn Meter boosting, while solid, is covered by many other more offensive Supports such as Lily.

PVP

For PVP, Aya is designed to perform against Hard CCs and Buff removal (to dispel Immunity, for example), with her passive ensuring the survival of your team so long as Aya can take her turns fast enough to remove Debuffs continuously. On the other hand, her CD Reduction and Turn Meter boost, while good, are not enough to single-handedly make her worthy of a slot in most teams, so having few Debuffs or outright ignoring Aya and focusing on her key teammates can be an easy way of exploiting the holes in her kit. Interestingly enough, if Aya is the only source of Purification, flooding her team with Debuffs is also something that she cannot easily deal with, as she’s limited to cleansing one random Debuff per teammate per turn she takes.

Conclusion

Mizusumi Aya is a highly situational Animus with a clearly defined identity; unfortunately, when compared to other Supports who boast stronger or more versatile kits, she struggles to outshine them.

This flaw stands out in PVE, where the lack of offense makes her hardly ever the first choice, while in PVP, Aya ends up highly dependent on the Meta, where she places herself more as a specific counter to certain strategies rather than a trendsetter.

Pros & Cons
Pros

  • Can Purify + Heal her team even through hard CCs.

  • Turn Meter + CD Reduction for the entire team, even the Shells.

  • Can reduce cooldowns with S1 when lucky.

Cons

  • Heal is tied to Purifying Debuff.

  • Provides no offensive Support.

  • S3 requires specific teambuilding to be worthwhile.

Best Build

The builds below are tailored more toward PVE and we only mention PVP in some places - like for alternative Shells or Module choices. But PVE is our focus.

Best Shells

1

Before the owner acts, unleashes the owner Animus' full potential making their next skill cost no CD and increasing their SPD by an additional 10% for 2 turn(s). In PvP modes, after being affected by Codex of Magic, skills that did not go on cooldown will have their maximum cooldown permanently increased by 1 turn. (a single skill can only be affected once by this increase).

The cooldown of the skill can't be reduced.

An absurdly strong combo Shell that allows the wearer to skip the cooldown of the ability used on the turn this Shell is active. The wearer can use their ultimate or skill twice back to back, unlocking usually impossible personal and team combos. Also grants the wearer a 10% SPD boost after use for 2 turns. Mainly used in PvE burst/combo compositions or PVP. Can be used on both Supports and DPS situationally.

Allows Aya to use her S3 Turn Meter and Cooldown Reduction back to back, accelerating the team's actions consdierably while also opening up potent low cooldown combos.

2

For every 3 actions accumulated by enemy units, increases the owner's Turn Meter by 35%, and can be triggered up to 1 times per turn.

Grants the wearer a 35% gauge boost for every 3 enemy actions that occur, once per turn. A solid choice for Supports in content that sees multiple enemies acting per one turn of the wearer. Loses value against singular enemies or enemies that move slowly or not at all (due to control effects).

A solid option for more drawn out fights where Codex loses efficacy.

3

Before the main body acts, it increases its [DEF] by 700 for 2 turns, and applies a [Shield] equal to 400% of its own [DEF] to the main body Animus, and the Animus ally with the lowest current HP percentage for 2 turns.

Cannot stack with similar effects applied by other Shells.

Grants the wearer 700 DEF for 2 turns, as well as applying a sizable shield to an ally for 2 turns. It has a 1-turn initial cooldown, but after that, it will maintain the 700 DEF buff 66% of the time and keep the shield active often. Primarily used on dedicated DEF scalers.

A purely defensive and sustain based option which is viable thanks to the fact Aya can invest heavily into DEF after reaching satisfactory SPD.

PVP Setup

Below you can find some alternative setups you can use, but only in PVP.

1

Whenever this unit resists any Debuff effect, gain 20% Turn Meter, can only trigger 1 time(s) per turn. Can also trigger when the Animus is unable to act.

On turn start, if debuffed cleanses up to two of them and gains 25% EFF RES, allowing the wearer to shrug of crowd controls or debuffs. A strong anti-CC tool while also granting access to all the best defensive and SPD matrix sets.

Reaper Steps is her premier shell in PvP as it synergizes very well with her kit and offers great modules to pair with it. The 20% turn boost when she resists allows her to cut and boost up her team with S3 as well as cycle more over the course of the battle, while being able to cleanse what debuffs the enemy is lucky enough to land.

3

Before the owner takes action, if the owner has any debuffs, dispels 3 debuff(s) and increases their Effect RES by 25% for every 1 debuff(s) dispelled, lasting for 2 turn(s).

A PVP-focused shell option offering a 2-turn debuff cleanse and up to 50% Effect RES at turn start with a 4-turn cooldown. A solid option for characters who need to ensure they aren’t taken out of the fight by stuns, freezes, or other debilitating effects on their opening turn.

A middle ground option for those that want her to be fast but also able to self cleanse to make sure she gets the boost off vs potential CC comps.

Stat comments (PVE)

Mizusumi Aya has two main stats and two conditional stats to pay attention to across gear for PVE:

  • Main Stats:
    • SPD: SPD is Aya's most important stat as she ideally wants to move either before the rest of her team, in order to boost their turn meter with her S3, or right after the fastest members of the team to re-boost their turn meter and reduce their cooldowns. SPD is also vital to ensure she cycles as much as possible in order to trigger her purify and heal frequently.
    • HP% & DEF%: With no other vital stats to build, HP or DEF is Aya's next priority to ensure she doesn't easily go down in combat.
  • Conditional Stats:
    • Effect RES%: A luxury stat you can choose to build on your Aya that can prevent debuffs and crowd control when lucky improving survivability.
Stat comments (PVP)
  • Main Stats:
    • SPD: She ideally wants to be as fast as possible to boost up the rest of her team and cycle her healing/cleansing when she takes her turn.
    • Effect RES: Great option to resist some debuffs and let her take her turns often without worrying about stuns or slows. Especially needed if you run the Reaper Steps shell.
    • HP%: Much needed option to tank hits as she will be a primary target of the enemy to stop her from cleansing and boosting.
  • Conditional Stats:
    • DEF%: Pairs extremely well with a high HP stat for survival but generally theres other stats with more value.
Shell Passives
Slot 1
HP% = DEF% > HP = DEF
Slot 2
SPD
Slot 3
Synergy = DMG Taken
Passive comments
  • Slot 1: HP% or DEF% are optimal but if you're lacking in materials Flat HP/DEF can also be used.
  • Slot 2: Best in slot.
  • Slot 3: Synergy is best as it amplifies damage dealt by allies. As an alternative all three Damage Taken related passive can work on Aya. Be aware without anything to Clenase, Aya will not be able to trigger Synergy.
Skill Priority
Skill Priority
PVE: S3 = S2 > S1 | PVP: S2 > S3 > S1
Comments

Aya works with minimal Lattice investment but if you do want to invest in her here is what you'll want to know. PVE Priority:

  • S3 offers some of the best bang for your buck in terms of levels thanks to it boosting Aya's personal and team wide turn meter boosting effect as well as enhancing her cooldown reduction on unit death effect on top of netting a one turn cooldown at Lv5.
  • S2 is also worth considering in PVE for those who want Aya to fufill more of a sustain based role. Levelling S2 will allow Aya to heal more but most importantly will allow her to both heal and cleanse even while she is controlled.
  • S1 has the lowest priority but is still useful thanks to it providing a large amount of bonus SPD and improving Aya's chance to reduce the teams cooldowns on use.

PVP priority:

  • Skill 2 max is the most important for the ability to cleanse while CCed if you prioritize her in the CC matchup. If you are a turn 2 player you will want to prioritize her Speed and boost potential to allow your cleave or CC to move a lot throughout the match.
