Highest damage ceiling among 4-star DPS characters as of the guide’s release
Large damage share in his teams, making investment into him rewarding
Strong 4-star weapon options
C6 has a large amount of value for both his damage and ease of use
Optimal teams can overlap with Mavuika and Arlecchino, who are widely owned and outperform him
Requires skill and a little luck to get the most out of him due to Melt timing, and Man Chai juggling
Gaming is a 4-star Pyro Claymore character whose playstyle is centered around his specially enhanced Plunging Attacks. His Burst grants him resets to his Skill, enabling continuous and rapid Pyro Plunging Attacks which can be further amplified through Melt or Vaporize reactions.
To further elaborate, casting his Elemental Skill launches Gaming forward. Upon colliding with an enemy or an obstacle, he leaps higher into the air and gains access to a unique Plunging Attack, “Charmed Cloudstrider” for a short duration. This action has higher scaling than his regular Plunging Attack and is tied to the talent level of his skill. Charmed Cloudstrider is also converted to Pyro DMG that cannot be overridden, and it counts as Plunging Attack DMG, though it doesn’t have collision damage.
His Elemental Burst then summons his companion Suanni Man Chai and immediately launches it at an enemy, dealing a large instance of damage. Gaming also enters the Wushou Stance for 12 seconds. This Stance grants him increased interruption resistance, but more importantly, it re-summons Man Chai whenever Gaming lands a Charmed Cloudstrider if above 50% HP. This is extremely significant: whenever Man Chai returns to Gaming, it disappears and resets the cooldown of his Elemental Skill, allowing him to cast it again immediately. This loop forms the entire basis of his on-field playstyle: cast his Skill to access his Charmed Cloudstrider Plunging Attack, catch Man Chai to reset the cooldown, and repeat.
Gaming also manipulates his own HP on top of the previous gameplay loop. Landing Charmed Cloudstrider consumes 15% of his Max HP, though this cannot reduce his HP below 10%, while casting his Elemental Burst restores 30% of his Max HP. His first Ascension Passive then restores 1.5% of his Max HP every 0.2 seconds for 0.8 seconds after Charmed Cloudstrider hits an enemy, for 6% in total. As such, he loses 9% of his Max HP per Charmed Cloudstrider as long as he is hitting enemies with it.
This HP loss can matter for two reasons:
First, his second Ascension Passive increases Charmed Cloudstrider’s DMG by 20% while he’s above 50% HP, and otherwise grants him a 20% Incoming Healing Bonus. A small amount of healing or shielding from teammates can be valuable to maintain the damage bonus’ uptime, especially if you expect to be taking damage on top of his own HP consumption. This can also be sustained through Gaming’s Constellation 1.
The much more important reason though is that to be able to re-summon Man Chai through his Charmed Cloudstrider, he is required to be above 50% HP.
Much of Gaming’s skill expression comes from how his Skill reset works, which can be broken into two parts.
First, his Skill goes on cooldown as soon as he launches forward, well before he performs his Plunging Attack. Rather than plunging, waiting for Man Chai to return, and only then casting his Skill again, Gaming can instead cast his Skill and catch Man Chai during the dash, ascent, or plunge animation. Since he re-summons Man Chai upon landing, he can then cast his Skill again as soon as he touches the ground. This allows him to fit up to 9 Plunging Attacks into longer rotations.
Second, the direction Man Chai travels after being summoned is random. Man Chai initially launches in one direction before bouncing back towards Gaming, so the time it takes to return can vary significantly. A favorable direction can greatly reduce the wait for his Skill reset and increase the number of Plunging Attacks that he can perform during his Burst, whereas an unfavorable one can do the opposite. This is further complicated when facing large bosses or in fights with heavy visual clutter where it can be hard to track Man Chai, as dashing towards Man Chai can help reduce the time it takes to return.
Note that this doesn’t matter in all teams though; in his best Melt teams, there is usually only one Cryo applier. And in cases they apply Cryo every 2 seconds, like Citlali or Escoffier, the number of reacted Plunging Attacks is gated by their application rate regardless of Man Chai luck or the player’s execution. In these teams, the main advantage of efficient resets is a slightly shorter rotation (1 second) since Gaming can Melt as soon as his teammate applies Cryo.
In teams with more than a single Cryo applier, such as double Cryo comps, the randomness of Man Chai makes it unlikely that rotations will be optimized specifically around Cryo application. Rapid plunging still helps, but the limiting factor becomes Man Chai’s RNG bounce direction rather than further skill expression. You could say the willingness to try over and over for good Man Chai RNG is a level of expertise in itself.
Gaming’s core gameplay loop consists of the following:
Cast his Burst Initially to enter Wushou Stance and summon Man Chai. An attack can optionally be fit in here while waiting for the Burst to hit.
Cast his Skill to ascend into the air.
Perform Charmed Cloudstrider (by Plunging), which re-summons Man Chai while in the Wushou Stance.
Steps 2 and 3 are then repeated until Gaming swaps out. Depending on teammate cooldowns the amount of repeats varies, from 6 to 9 Plunging Attacks.
When “juggling”, Man Chai is caught during step 2. You can fall slightly before performing his Charmed Cloudstrider attack as it doesn’t affect its damage unlike regular Plunging Attacks which have separate values for low and high plunges.
When not “juggling”, Man Chai is instead caught after step 3, and dashing toward its summoned location can help shorten the wait.
Rotations may also start with a Skill cast to apply Pyro, for example to trigger the Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City set effect on Iansan.
Finally, Gaming’s Burst does not increase the damage of Charmed Cloudstrider, it only enables Man Chai resets. As such, if a little more damage is needed at the end of a rotation in Abyss, but you don’t want to cast your burst, you can simply wait out his Skill cooldown for one or two regular Skill casts and save his Burst.

Serpent SpineR5121.9%Melt Team - Team5 Stacks assumed in this calculation. The most accessible top tier weapon here, as it can be obtained through the Battle Pass rather than Gacha. It provides CRIT and DMG%, and in ideal conditions competes with the best options. Its main drawbacks are the ramp up time needed and having to avoid incoming damage.
Gest of the Mighty WolfR1121.8%Melt Team - TeamCompetitive with both Serpent Spine and Fruitful Hook at high refinements, and significantly better than either in Hexerei teams. Gaming casts his Skill so frequently to enable his Plunging Attacks that keeping its passive at high stacks is very easy.
Fruitful HookR5121.0%Melt Team - TeamProvides the same benefits as Serpent Spine: significant CRIT Rate, Plunging Attack DMG Bonus, and some ATK%. It reaches similar overall numbers to a high-refinement Serpent Spine without the need to build stacks or avoid taking damage.
Serpent SpineR1114.6%Melt Team - Team5 Stacks assumed in this calculation. Spine is still great at R1, ranking ahead of the 5-star stat sticks. Note that if Gaming is taking frequent hits, Serpent Spine R5 performs about the same as R1 played optimally. Its DMG bonus at 3 stacks (10% x 3) matches R1 at full stacks (6% x 5), both totalling 30%.
Blade of AtonementR5100.0%Melt Team - TeamThe best craftable option in teams where Gaming wants Elemental Mastery.
Tidal ShadowR599.1%Melt Team - TeamThe best craftable option in teams where Gaming doesn’t need large amounts of Elemental Mastery.
RainslasherR594.6%Melt Team - TeamCompetitive with craftable options in Vaporize and Overvape teams.
Crimson Witch of FlamesThe default best set in Multiplicative Reaction teams as he can maintain high stacks on its 4-Piece bonus effect, and he benefits a lot from the Vape / Melt increase.
Long Night's OathGaming’s default best set in Non-Multiplicative Reaction teams as he can yet again maintain high stacks on its 4-Piece bonus effect, and almost all of his damage is Plunging Damage.
Marechaussee HunterGaming’s HP manipulation gives him great uptime on the set’s CRIT Rate buff. However, many of his best weapons already provide CRIT Rate. Combined with the CRIT Rate from his C6, and possibly Cryo Resonance, it becomes very easy to overcap, and the set’s value drops significantly. This is why Crimson Witch is generally prioritized, as it performs similarly regardless of weapon choice.
Gilded DreamsA reasonable backup option as it provides plenty of Elemental Mastery and ATK%. It only falls behind due to the stats being less valuable than the stats from other sets, and this becomes especially true with Elemental Mastery weapons.
Night of the Sky's UnveilingAlthough it provides CRIT Rate like Marechaussee, this set can still be his best option in Lunar-Charged teams. It provides useful stats to Gaming himself while also buffing Columbina and Ineffa, who can contribute around 50% of the team’s damage.
Unfinished ReverieCan perform best if Gaming is played in a Burning team, though this is a very niche team and not a particularly strong one either.Used in Multiplicative Reaction teams.
Used in Non-Multiplicative Reaction teams.
Used pre-C4 as his Energy requirements are quite large.
Always worse, but it can come close when there is little Elemental Mastery from the team, his weapon, and his artifacts.
Depends on Constellations and currently equipped weapon on Gaming.

Gaming loves the high multiplicative boost from Melt on his Plunging Attacks. For the supports, a Cryo applier like Citlali, Escoffier is mandatory, and then your choice of Supports can be a mix of many options. Bennett, Nicole, C6 Chevreuse, C6 Iansan, Sucrose, and even Xianyun all can be great teammates.

GamingThe synergy between Gaming's HP manipulation and Furina, alongside Vaporize still being useful for amplifying his Plunges, makes Vaporize a viable alternative archetype for Gaming. He can also perform fine in Overload, and a Lunar core is also possible with Columbina and Ineffa carrying the team. He is a flexible DPS even if a pure carry Gaming comp would prefer Multiplicative Reaction teams.
