Core Passive Prodigious Idol
Nangong Yu's Anomaly Proficiency increases by 60.
When Nangong Yu's initial Anomaly Mastery exceeds 110, each point of initial Anomaly Mastery above that increases her Impact by 1.
When an enemy is Stunned, each time any character triggers an Abloom attack, a Disorder attack, or inflicts an Attribute Anomaly on the enemy, the enemy gains 1 stacks of Vibrato.
A single enemy can have up to 4 stacks of Vibrato.
If Vibrato reaches the maximum stacks and is afflicted with an Anomaly, or if the enemy has Vibrato and recovers from being Stunned, all Vibrato stacks will be cleared.
When Vibrato is cleared, if the enemy is suffering an Ether, Electric, Fire, Physical, or Ice Nangong Yu triggers an Abloom attack on the target, dealing an additional instance of Attribute Anomaly DMG equal to 720%, 360%, 900%, 63%, or 90%of the original Attribute Anomaly DMG. Each stack of Vibrato on the enemy increases this Abloom DMG ratio by an additional 25%. During the same Stun period, once Vibrato has been cleared, the enemy cannot gain Vibrato again.
When Nangong Yu's Basic Attack: Adorable Explosive Impact or EX Special Attack: The Unbearable Weight of Love hits an enemy, her Anomaly Buildup Rate increases by 17%, and her Daze dealt increases by 11%, and all squad members' DMG dealt increases by 13% for 30s. Repeated triggers reset the duration.
While in combat, Nangong Yu restores 3.8 Downbeats/s. When any squad member inflicts an Attribute Anomaly on an enemy, Nangong Yu restores an additional 12 Downbeats. This effect can trigger once every 6s.
Nangong Yu can hold up to 100 Downbeats, and starts with 30 Downbeats upon entering the battlefield.
Anomaly Mastery: 0
BASE ATK: 0
Additional Ability Angel Captain
When another character in your squad is an Anomaly character or shares the same Faction:
Any squad member's attack against a Stunned enemy has 30% increased Anomaly Buildup Rate. Chain Attacks against a Stunned enemy have an additional 30% increased Anomaly Buildup Rate.
When any squad member Stuns an enemy, gain 2 stacks of Dance Prowess, up to a maximum of 2 stacks, lasting 15s. With Dance Prowess, when a heavy attack from Nangong Yu's EX Special Attack: The Unbearable Weight of Love, Basic Attack: Adorable Explosive Impact, or Quick Assist: Emergency Save hits an enemy that is both Stunned and affected by an Attribute Anomaly, 1 stack of Dance Prowess is consumed to trigger the special Disorder effect Polarity Disorder against all enemies who meet the conditions. This deals DMG equal to 25% of the original Disorder DMG, and triggers the previous squad member's Quick Assist. Polarity Disorder does not clear the target's Attribute Anomaly. If the skill fails to trigger Polarity Disorder, Dance Prowess will not be consumed. When Nangong Yu has Dance Prowess, the next time she switches to the field, she will immediately perform the first charged hit of Basic Attack: Adorable Explosive Impact, which will always trigger precise charging.
When any squad member Stuns an enemy, Nangong Yu's next EX Special Attack will not consume Energy. This effect lasts15s and can trigger once every 15s.
When Nangong Yu and Aria are in the same squad, if Aria's Basic Attack: Perfect Pitch heavy attack hits an enemy that is both Stunned and affected by an Attribute Anomaly, and Nangong Yu fully participates in the attack, 1 stack of Dance Prowess will also be consumed to trigger Polarity Disorder on the enemy.
When the third hit of Nangong Yu's Basic Attack: Adorable Explosive Impact or Ultimate: Meteor Shower hits an enemy, the enemy suffers Misstep. Under

This tier list assesses Agents (characters) based on their combat potential in Zenless Zone Zero’s most demanding contents - Deadly Assault (DA) and Shiyu Defense (SD). Please keep in mind Zenless Zone Zero is a skill-based game and each character has a different playstyle, difficulty level and even special tricks and combos. Zenless Zone Zero is also a team based game and it's only by combining both these factors to the highest level a character can reach optimal performance.
Endgame Modes
Jack-of-all trades, master of all: very high Daze, buffs the team, and can function as a sub-DPS.
Multitude of niche but valuable benefits, like fast Heavy Attacks for Chain triggers, free EX Special casts and even lower cost Defensive Assists.
Unlocks new routes and combos for Anomaly teams owing to fast stuns, Anomaly build-up buffs and extended stun durations.
Such a broken unit that even her character demo acknowledges that she’s a Mary Sue
“Anomaly” Stunner, a class that few Anomaly Agents have matching Additional Abilities for, limiting many teams’ damage ceiling.
Heavily reliant on her Signature W-Engine for best performance, with no alternative even coming close.
High Anomaly build-up can be tricky to work with, be it in terms of dilution or Disorder ICD, depending on the team.
Tako sausage hair is not edible; please do not munch on it.
Nangong is an Ether Stun Agent, but don’t be misled by her class, as she also offers hefty buffs to Anomaly teams and is able to function as a pseudo-Anomaly Agent herself, with high damage and Anomaly build-up rates.
Rather than having a single unique mechanic, Nangong has multiple, with a variety of buffs and resources, each dealing with a different aspect of her kit: The bar underneath her portrait in combat tracks her “Downbeats”. She starts combat with 30 and it has a cap of 100 and builds passively, at a rate of 3.8/s, but also gets a boost of 12 Downbeats whenever an Attribute Anomaly is triggered, with a 6s cooldown.
Nangong has a 3-part Charged Basic Attack, with the 2nd and 3rd hits consuming 50 Downbeats each. If her Additional Ability is active, then landing the 3rd hit (or her Ultimate) will apply “Misstep” to enemies, a debuff that increases their Stun DMG Multiplier by 30% and extends stun durations by 3s.
In addition to Downbeats, another resource is tracked via the bar, with 2 pips on the right side representing “Dance Prowess”. Whenever enemies are stunned, Nangong gains 2 stacks that last 15s. When landing her EX Special, Charged Basic Attack or Quick Assist on enemies in stun, she will then trigger a Polarity Disorder dealing 25% of the to-be Disorder’s DMG as well as a reverse Quick Assist.
To make it easy to trigger this, while Dance Prowess is stocked, swapping to Nangong will have her rush towards the enemy with an instant cast of her Charged Basic Attack, resulting in an immediate Polarity Disorder.
Note: If Aria is on the team, then Dance Prowess is triggered automatically with her stomps, no other skill use needed.
On top of Polarity Disorders, she also has access to Ablooms: every Abloom, Disorder or Attribute Anomaly that triggers on an enemy in stun will build a “Vibrato” stack. When either 4 are built or stun ends on an enemy, Nangong will trigger an Abloom that has increased scaling the more Vibrato stacks are present, happening at most once per stun.
All of this combined creates a gameplay loop of building Downbeats, expending them on Charged Basic Attacks, then once enemies are stunned, using up Dance Prowess stacks for Polarity Disorders while working up Vibrato stacks by bursting with Nangong herself and a main Anomaly damage dealer.
There are still plenty of other gimmicks tied to her Core and Additional Ability that help with the above.
It’s in Nangong’s Core Passive that her Downbeats and Vibrato stack scaling is determined, but it has additional effects.
By default, it increases her Anomaly Proficiency by 120, which goes a long way at helping her function as a sub-DPS. It also gives Nangong 1 Impact for every point of Anomaly Mastery over 110, giving her some absurd amounts of Impact without sacrificing on Anomaly build-up rates. For context, a max-level Impact D6 is an 18% increase to Impact, whereas an Anomaly Mastery D6 is giving 30 flat Impact!
Nangong also has general buff value, as if she lands her Charged Basic Attack or EX Special, her personal Anomaly Buildup Rate and Daze dealt increase by 35% and 20% respectively, and she bestows a team-wide 25% DMG Bonus for 30s. Her Additional Ability demands either Anomaly or same-faction characters, and it’s through it that she gets the Misstep debuff and Dance Prowess stacks for Polarity Disorders. To make it easier to trigger, whenever an enemy is stunned, if Nangong uses an EX Special within the next 15 seconds, it will consume no energy (with a 15s cooldown).
On top of these, she further buffs the team by increasing all Agents’ Anomaly Buildup Rate by 30% against stunned enemies, with Chain Attacks getting an extra 30% on top, doubling the total bonus.
Nangong’s regular Basic Attacks are unremarkable, but much of Nangong’s kit revolves around its Charged variant (Downbeats, Misstep, Dance Prowess…), which is accessed by holding down the Basic Attack button. It has a long charge time, but it can be released early. By timing the release to when her Morning stars flash, it will trigger a “Precise Charging” that increases its Daze dealt by 20%. Nangong is fully invulnerable when releasing, and if she’s hit while dashing towards an enemy to strike, it will also gain the Precise Charging bonus.
As previously mentioned, it is a 3-part attack, with the 2nd and 3rd hits consuming 50 Downbeats and also having their own Precise Charging timings. The first hit can be skipped if the Charged Basic Attack is used after a Chain Attack, Ultimate or EX Special, and doing so will always guarantee Precise Charging bonuses. It is also possible to interrupt the Charged Basic Attack with these 3 moves, and doing so does not reset the sequence: so it is possible to do an EX Special into Charged Basic 2, then EX Special again and go straight into Charged Basic 3.
Nangong’s Special has no redeemable qualities and rarely sees use. Her EX Special has no unique properties, but it has a high Daze multiplier and as she gets a free use of it every stun, is useful to build Anomaly, trigger Chain Attacks and effects/statuses that demand EX Special casts.
None of Nangong’s Dodge skills are all that noteworthy, but she does deal a lot of Daze with her Dodge Counter, which makes on-fielding with her possible even when low on resources.
Unlike most characters, Nangong’s Defensive Assist will only consume 1 Assist Point instead of 2, no matter how heavy the attack. Her Assist Follow-Up also has great multipliers; it can be a little slow, but parrying on her can be an effective way to build Daze and Decibels quickly.
As for her Chain Attack, it isn’t very fast, but it can build a lot of Anomaly so it’s usable on teams that need quick Ether application.
Her Ultimate has absurdly high Daze multipliers and triggers Ether Veil: Delusion Reprise, increasing all squad members’ ATK by 50 for 30s.
Nangong may have a lot of different resources and triggers, but her gameplan amounts to:
Build-up her Downbeats gauge to 100, making use of Anomalies every 6 seconds to boost it faster.
Land a full Charged Basic Attack or her Ultimate to apply Misstep, with either a Charged Basic Attack or EX Special hit to activate her Core Passive buffs.
Once an enemy is stunned, use up her Dance Prowess stacks by swapping to her and/or landing EX Specials - the latter of which gets one free use every stun - and inflicting Ablooms/Disorders/Anomalies to trigger a max-Vibrato stack Abloom.
This then repeats between every stun, making sure that all of her buffs and debuffs are maintained.
Since a lot of Nangong’s Daze is loaded on resource-consuming skills, like her Charged Basic Attack, EX Special, and Ultimate, look to make use of her low-cost Defensive Assist where needed. With how loaded Nangong teams’ damage output is in stun, prioritise getting as many stuns as possible in a fight to maximise her value.
As Nangong builds Anomaly quickly, managing her resources in-stun can be important depending on the team: a Miyabi team, for example, would demand clever use of EX Specials to sustain the Ether Anomalies required to get the multiple Disorders to fuel Shimotsuki casts. Aria teams, however, may benefit more from having Nangong’s EX Special come around when Anomaly gauges are high up, as despite her high damage, it would still partially dilute Corruption when compared to Aria’s own build-up.
Each team will have its own distinct priorities, so tailoring how much Energy is needed on Nangong before going into a stun, how many parries each Agent gets for Decibel management as well as who on-fields and for how long will vary. Since her kit is rather straightforward though, it isn’t too difficult to be flexible and work around different character needs.

The W-Engines are listed in order of priority. Sometimes the percentages appearing near them won't reflect their performance as pure damage or Stun output isn't the only thing we're looking at - the utility of the W-Engine might be more important than the calculations imply.
The top number shows the performance of the W-Engine when applying Daze while the bottom number when dealing Damage.

Phaethon's Melody is Nangong's best set for damage purposes. As she has both high personal damage and Anomaly build-up, it's the better option - especially with the Idols team where Nangong can dilute Ether. As most damage happens in stun, EX Specials from a main-DPS and Supports can sustain this in burst periods without much active management required, but it can struggle on heavy Disorder-focused comps depending on the encounter.
Best combined with your choice of 2-PC Set:
Freedom Blues
Chaos Jazz
Shining Aria
Chaotic Metal
Astral Voice
Hormone Punk

If one is struggling to consistently juggle Disorders with Nangong, Freedom Blues might be the better pick. For teams that have strict Anomaly build-up requirements or benefit greatly from fast Anomaly cycling (e.g. Miyabi or Alice), this set can make it much easier for Nangong to keep up and opens up new combo routes when well managed, functioning as a decent universal Drive Disc option.

Calculations
Don't use the damage output calculations as an indication on who is worth pulling or investing as those are just simulations and in day-to-day gameplay there's a lot variables and also the skill of the player is important. As usual, don't compare the numbers between characters.
ZZZ has changed a lot from 1.0 - many new mechanics, enemies characters have been introduced and biggest of all the game has a new competitive endgame mode Deadly Assault. Deadly Assault is based around dealing as much damage as possible in 180 seconds, because of this we're changing our calculation style away from a focus on burst to instead focus on extended fights over 3 minutes (180s). Also, many Mindscapes, Disc Drive and W-engine calculations can meaningfully change when factoring in the buffs of an Agents best team, for this reason we're also adding a new feature, allowing you to see damage output with one of the agents best teams buffs factored in.
The W-Engine calculations below are team-buffed calculations and here's the team we used for them:
Rotation time: consistent DPS over 180s.
And here are the W-Engines and Disk Drives used in the calculations.
The equipper's Anomaly Proficiency increases by 90/103/117/130/145. When the equipper's EX Special Attack or Basic Attack deals Ether DMG, all squad members' DMG dealt increases by 15/17/19.5/21/24% for 40s, stacking up to 2 times. Substats: ATK (42%), Anomaly Proficiency (126)
A standard 18% RES Mindscape that’s easy to maintain. It’s in-line with many other similar supportive M1s, and being able to enter combat with a full Downbeat gauge can help speed up and streamline some openers.
This works as both an increase to Nangong’s personal damage, by giving her higher Abloom scaling and an additional Polarity Disorder on any squad member’s Chain Attack, and a team-wide buff through the increase in the Stun DMG Multiplier, further increasing the value of proper in-stun combos.
More AP helps Nangong deal more damage (and Ether dilution less of an issue), while the Buildup bonus on charged Basic Attacks can make it easier to manage Disorders.
The values shown for this Mindscape are not reflective of its full potential. As far as damage goes, it helps by giving a new “Vibrato: Modified” buff that functions like the standard one, leading to an Abloom, but triggering only when entering stun instead of exiting or at 4 stacks. The greatest gain from this M6 however, is the 50% Daze, which allows for extra stuns in Deadly Assault, faster clears in Shiyu and brand new routing options in both, which cannot be accounted for in raw numbers.
