The leader of the odd-job agency the Cunning Hares, who accept all kinds of Hollow-related commissions. She's been on the streets for many years, and has a reputation among her peers as being exceedingly cunning. She's been blacklisted by many clients due to her all-or nothing approach. She loves money, but is surprisingly bad at managing it, leaving the Cunning Hares constantly on the edge of bankruptcy and owing many debts.

Amazing DEF Shred debuff that amplifies your party’s DMG by a ton. Additionally provides CRIT Rate at M6 and Ether DMG with her Additional Ability;
Even has a DMG% debuff on her Signature W-Engine. All in all one of the strongest supportive potentials in the game by a long shot;
Able to gather enemies in an Energy Field which is practical for Shiyu Defense etc.;
Low field time, can swap in and out really easily, even in the middle of a stun combo. Also able to trigger Quick Assists efficiently;
She’s free!
There are very few cons to this character. She’s good with almost everyone. She requires minimal investment. Build Nicole.
Really low DEF Shred uptime, requires constant management, may even require her to intervene in the midst of a Stun window.
DEF Shred is not only completely antisynergistic with Rupture Agents but also makes PEN Ratio less valuable. Keep this in mind when building a team including Nicole.
Nicole is an A-rank Ether Support Agent whose primary role is to amplify the damage of your damage dealers in many ways. From her iconic massive DEF Shred debuff, to DMG% debuffs, CRIT Rate increases, to Ether DMG Bonus boosts and providing Quick Assists with minimal field time, she has it all. Let’s look into how to play this supportive powerhouse.
Nicole’s main mechanic lies in her Core Passive. At max level, it debuffs enemy DEF by upwards of 40% for 3.5s whenever an enemy receives damage from an Energy Field or enhanced bullets (which she gains via Specials, EX Specials, Chain Attacks and Ultimates). The enhanced bullet mechanic is however rarely used on her, instead preferring Energy Fields which group enemies in its center. She has a few ways to generate them, being:
Her EX Special;
Her Ultimate;
Her Chain Attack.
This is a HUGE debuff which can seriously amplify your party’s damage and take it to new heights. For a free Support character, Nicole puts in the work. However, there’s one main problem with it: the debuff only lasts 3.5s, which is a lot of the reason why she remains balanced. Her gameplay sums up to a matter of ensuring full uptime on her DEF Shred for your damage dealers to deal massive amounts of burst damage. Here’s how to handle that:
Nicole’s EX Special can be charged for a short duration, which deals DMG at the muzzle of her cannon, and when fully charged she shoots her longest-lasting energy field. Use this before casting Ultimates or other kinds of lengthy charged attacks.
Nicole’s Chain Attack and Ultimate are her best way to quickly get an Energy Field down, as it’s almost instant. They are best used when swap cancelling a DPS Agent’s animations to refresh uptime in the middle of a Stun combo (or on Anomaly agents, as an extra source of uptime which doesn ’t require Energy).
Nicole’s Energy Fields linger for a short duration and damage enemies in its radius (full charge EX being the longest lingering hitbox). During that entire time period, the 3.5s DEF Shred duration is constantly refreshed on every hit, up until the last hit where the 3.5s ticks down and the debuff expires. Keep this in mind when trying to refresh Nicole’s DEF Shred for maximum uptime.
This basically sums up Nicole’s entire gameplay. Her Ultimate and EX Special attacks trigger Quick Assists if you want to make use of them (for a set like Astral Voice for example). You never want her on the field unless it’s to cast a Chain Attack, Ultimate or EX Special, as you’d be wasting valuable time that can be spent on your DPS Agents. It can get extremely mechanically complex to weave her in the midst of a DPS Agent’s rotation, especially during Stun. With Anomaly characters, it’s much easier to ensure uptime on key abilities since Stun windows are rarely exploitable.
Quick explanation on her build: it should be noted Nicole deals a lot of her damage via Ether Corruption Anomalies, so if you want to build her for damage, Anomaly is the most optimal path. Beyond that, ensure her supportive capabilities are at their maximum. Investment on Nicole is negligible as all she needs is Energy Regen for EX Special uptime (and a maxed out Core Passive, of course).
Also worth noting that DEF Shred and PEN Ratio negatively affect the impact they have on enemies when paired together due to how damage is calculated — avoid pairing Nicole and Rina in a Double Support team setup for example, or building PEN Ratio on your Disc Drives/W-Engines if Nicole is present in the team.
Even without exploiting Nicole’s Additional Ability reserved to Ether teams (which only adds to her value in those), she remains one of the most versatile Support Agents, and while she doesn’t function with Rupture Agents as they completely ignore her DEF Shred capabilities, with any Attack or Anomaly DPS Agents she’s always one of the strongest options available. The only thing stopping the average Proxy from fully utilizing Nicole is her DEF Shred uptime — no way around this issue, you’ll need to pay attention and optimize. While her Mindscape 1 helps very slightly with this, it’s not enough to compensate for the extremely short duration on the DEF Shred and will require careful planning from the Nicole player.
However, so long as you learn how to work around her mechanics properly, she’s one of the best Support Agents in the game. At a baseline, Nicole remains an extremely simplistic Agent to use as only 3 of her abilities are worth caring about. This is especially true in Anomaly teams where timing certain abilities like her Ultimate is rarely an issue, however ensuring maximum uptime on her DEF Shred remains difficult.
In conclusion, Nicole is one of the strongest and cheapest Support Agents to build, who slots in a wide variety of teams as one of the best options in almost every situation (aside from Rupture Agents). Considering her status as a free Agent, she’ll end up a must-build on lots of Proxies’ accounts, if they desire to clear endgame contents as smoothly as possible.
This tier list assesses Agents (characters) based on their combat potential in Zenless Zone Zero’s most demanding contents -Deadly Assault (DA) and Shiyu Defense (SD).
SD is a similar mode to Genshin Impact’s Spiral Abyss or Honkai Star Rail’s Memory of Chaos and requires 2 teams of 3 Agents with good Disk Drives and W-Engines. This mode offers a reasonable mix of Boss encounters (single-target) and Elite packs (2-3 targets), allowing multiple characters to find a niche. With that being said, there is a bias towards single-target performance, which may reflect in select character ratings. Additionally, since this content’s goal is to kill all enemies within the shortest time frame possible, Agents who dish out lots of damage quickly instead of damage over time are favoured. This Tier List focuses on Agents’ ability to clear within 150s (2m30s) out of the 300s (5m) needed to obtain all rewards.
DA is a very unique mode in Zenless Zone Zero which offers Boss encounters exclusively, meaning other types of damage than single-target are rarely impactful (if ever). It requires a total of 3 teams to maximize all possible rewards, however only 2 well-geared teams are necessary to maximize Polychrome (premium pull currency) rewards (which are the most important and as a result are what we consider for this Tier List). The goal of this gamemode is to inflict as much damage to a boss as possible in a total time span of 3 minutes, meaning sustainable damage within long time windows is favoured. A maximum of 65000 score points can be obtained by fully depleting a boss’s HP, however this is unrealistic for the overwhelming majority of players while being unnecessary to maximize rewards. Only 20000 points is needed to maximize said rewards, with up to 5000 points being obtainable via Performance (obtained via performing certain actions on specific Boss enemies). Agents’ ability to reach this threshold of 20000 points is what the Tier List focuses upon.
Please keep in mind Zenless Zone Zero is a skill-based game and each character has a different playstyle, difficulty level and even special tricks and combos. Zenless Zone Zero is also a team based game and it's only by combining both these factors to the highest level a character can reach optimal performance.

The W-Engines are listed in order of priority. Sometimes the percentages appearing near them won't reflect their performance as pure damage or Stun output isn't the only thing we're looking at - the utility of the W-Engine might be more important than the calculations imply.

Dealing Ether DMG using an EX Special Attack, Chain Attack, or Ultimate increases all squad members' DMG against the target by 15/17.5/20/22/24% and increases the equipper's Energy Regen by 0.5/0.58/0.65/0.72/0.8 per second for 2s. Passive effects of the same name do not stack.
2
While off-field, Energy Regen increases by 0.6/0.75/0.9/1.05/1.2 per second. Attacks from the equipper enhance the squad's DMG against a struck target by 10/12.5/15/17.5/20% for 3 seconds. During this period, this effect is further increased by 1.7/2/2.5/3/3.3% every 0.5s, up to a maximum additional increase of 10.2/12/15/18/19.8%. Repeated triggers only refresh its duration without refreshing the DMG increase effect. Passive effects of the same name do not stack.
3
When any friendly unit in the squad attacks and hits an enemy, all friendly units' ATK increases by 2.5/2.8/3.2/3.6/4% for 8s, stacking up to 4 times. The duration of each stack is calculated separately, and each friendly unit can provide 1 stack of the buff. Passive effects of the same name do not stack.
4
Any squad members' Dodge Counter, EX Special Attack, Assist Attack, or Chain Attack respectively generates 20/23/26/29/32 (Dodge) | 25/28.5/32/35.5/40 (Special) | 30/34.5/39/43.5/48 (Assist) | 35/40/45/50/55 (Chain) more Decibels and generates 0.7/0.8/0.9/1/1.1 Energy for the equipper. This effect can trigger once every 12s. The cooldown for each type of attack is independent of others. Passive effects of the same name do not stack.

New best support set. The buff is triggered off Quick Assists and can be stacked multiple times - if you can stack it 2 times, it already beats Swing Jazz (by 1%, but hey!), and if you can also get a third stack, it puts the set ahead of Swing Jazz (24% vs 15%).
Best combined with your choice of 2-PC Set:

Great set for Supports aiming to support direct damage dealers or Anomaly characters that do not require the buff from Freedom Blues. Grants the entire squad a 15% DMG increase for 12 seconds following a Chain Attack or Ultimate. Almost always activated via a Chain Attack which perfectly buffs all allies right before the team's largest damage window during stun.
Best combined with your choice of 2-PC Set:

Teams & Synergy
Below we list only the most important synergies for Nicole. The character can work with others if you know what to do and how to use them. For more alternatives, refer to the Teams section.
If a column has multiple characters, the bigger one is the priority choice for the team while the smaller ones are alternatives. If they are the same size, either of them can be used.
Nicole is the definition of a generalist Support. She is able to slot as a support into any team as a top F2P option and, a majority of the time, the #2 best option period. (Sometimes along with Trigger in teams where she heavily benefits). Astra Yao outshines her as the sole Support in a majority of teams, but the pair work fantastically together making for great Hypercarry compositions. Here are some examples of the 2 kinds of teams she fits in especially well:
