Xuan Chi is a Constant Affinity Bruiser. A versatile Damage Dealer, he is also competent in both Supporting and Debuffing.
Xuan Chi’s S1 is a single-target attack that deals good damage and has a moderate chance to inflict [Block] for up to 2 turns. If Xuan Chi’s DEF is higher than his target, the damage is increased and the chance to land the Block is doubled.
Xuan Chi takes his turns very fast, and his bulky nature makes him extremely suitable for Counter/Assist strategies. S1 is an okay damage and a strong Debuff option, so raising it to lvl4/5 is definitely worth it, although the priority is lower than his other skills.
Xuan Chi’s S2 is his only supporting tool, but its effects are extremely potent. Firstly, whenever another ally takes damage, Xuan Chi gets extra Turn Meter, up to 15% for each ally hit with a separate 1-turn CD per ally. This means that during the turn of any combatant, each ally hit can grant him 15% Turn Meter. Secondly, Xuan Chi’s allies receive a 20% Turn Meter boost every time Xuan Chi takes action. Lastly, Xuan Chi’s attacks ignore up to 60% of his target's DEF if their DEF is lower than his.
With the importance of cycling turns, this passive takes the highest priority in all settings other than 1-turn setups, at the very least up to level 4. If you want your Xuan Chi to perform well as a DPS, get the skill to level 5 quickly.
S3 is an AoE, hitting each enemy 3 times for good damage, with each hit having a moderate chance to Dispel a Buff and inflict both [Warded Light] and [Vulnerable] for 1 and 2 turns, respectively. If the target(s) DEF is lower than Xuan Chi’s, the chance to Dispel and inflict Debuffs is doubled.
[Warded Light] is a regular Debuff that disables the Animus’ Shell Skill and its CD refresh while active. It can be purified, transferred, immunized against, etc.
Given the potency of the Debuffs inflicted, alongside the naturally boosted Damage of Xuan Chi through his passive DEF ignore, this skill benefits greatly from each level up, all the way to level 5. While not as high a priority as S2, getting it to level 5 asap is recommended.
In PVE, Xuan Chi’s damage is not high enough to qualify him as a main Damage Dealer and his ability to Dispel gives him good potential as a main Dispeller. However, he has to contend with Plume in that role, which makes it difficult for him. Similarly, even though he can frequently boost the Turn Meter of his teammates by taking turns, he doesn’t benefit nearly as much from his own passive, given that the entire point of farming PVE is to have your team vastly faster than the enemy, limiting the amount of hits your allies will receive throughout most fights.
All of this leaves Xuan Chi in a difficult position, where none of his tools make him the best at any role, but at the same time, having him compete for a spot with other extremely versatile or ultra-specialized Animuses who pull ahead in the comparison. Nonetheless, the mix of teamwide Turn Meter+, Dispel and Vulnerable is enough to make him viable, albeit rarely optimal.
In PVP, Xuan Chi more than earns his place amongst the top of the Roster. Great supporting abilities, great Debuffing/Dispelling, and if unimpeded, very good damage in longer fights to boot. Xuan Chi especially shines thanks to how “safe” he is to pick early on in Draft, and in the other game modes, his inclusion is extremely easy so long as you don’t put him up against his natural counters.
Speaking of counters, Xuan Chi struggles against Fiamelia because his S3 feeds her gimmick way too much, making it a very annoying match-up where S3 must not be used. More generally, any DEF- effect is crippling to Xuan Chi, since all of his damage depends on him having not only high DEF, but it should be more DEF than his targets. On the subject of synergies, Lowan and Palin are noteworthy mentions, as their ability to force the focus of the enemy away from Xuan Chi helps him take turns very frequently thanks to his S2. Overall, Xuan Chi is one of those Animuses who can easily be partnered with, and even though his counters are numerous, it’s also possible to protect him from them.
Built with versatility in mind, Xuan Chi has no difficulty finding his own place within the already well-furnished Bruiser Roster, bringing once again great Supporting and Debuffing abilities to the table without revolutionizing already established strategies. His ability to excel with the right partners makes him a very strong PVP option, but the big advantage of extremely offensive formations in PVE doesn’t leave that much open space for him to shine there.
Highly versatile.
Cycles Turns very fast.
Can disable Shells.
Good Damage in PVP.
Dispels are always welcome.
DEF- cripples his damage into non-existence.
Needs his DEF to be higher than his targets.
Lacks firepower for PVE content, acts more as a Support/Debuffer.
Expensive Animus, requiring high Skill levels across all Skills.

For Early Game build tips when it comes to what modules and Shells to use before you start farming Red rarity, check our dedicated guide:
1
Before the main body acts, it increases its [DEF] by 700 for 2 turns, and applies a [Shield] equal to 400% of its own [DEF] to the main body Animus, and the Animus ally with the lowest current HP percentage for 2 turns.
Cannot stack with similar effects applied by other Shells. In PvP modes, the applied shield amount equals 350% of self DEF to the host Animus and ally with the lowest HP percentage.
Grants the wearer 700 DEF for 2 turns, as well as applying a sizable shield to an ally for 2 turns. It has a 1-turn initial cooldown, but after that, it will maintain the 700 DEF buff 66% of the time and keep the shield active often. Primarily used on dedicated DEF scalers.
Strong option to help him with his damage at the same time that give some damage mitigation thanks to the shield it provides.

Before the owner acts, unleashes the owner Animus' full potential making their next skill cost no CD and increasing their SPD by an additional 10% for 2 turn(s). In PvP modes, after being affected by Codex of Magic, skills that did not go on cooldown will have their maximum cooldown permanently increased by 1 turn. (a single skill can only be affected once by this increase).
The cooldown of the skill can't be reduced.
An absurdly strong combo Shell that allows the wearer to skip the cooldown of the ability used on the turn this Shell is active. The wearer can use their ultimate or skill twice back to back, unlocking usually impossible personal and team combos. Also grants the wearer a 10% SPD boost after use for 2 turns. Mainly used in PvE burst/combo compositions or PVP. Can be used on both Supports and DPS situationally.
Strong option to use in case you use him as your main Dispeller.

When the owner Animus is about to die, halves their current Turn Meter, removes all effects on them, recovers 60% of their Max HP, and puts them into a 1-turn [Iced] state.,
The cooldown of the skill can't be reduced.
Allows the wearer to cheat death once every 6 turns. Upon dying, they will instead recover 60% HP and enter a special state, becoming immune to turn meter reductions, debuffs, buffs, and also gaining 200% increased DEF until the start of their next turn. A powerful option for keeping vulnerable high-value units alive in PVP.
Amber is really good on him because he needs to be focused by the enemy due to his passive and it lets you stay alive for way longer!
