Beginner Guide

Welcome to Blue Protocol: Star Resonance (BP: SR for short)! In this beginner guide, you’ll learn all the essentials of getting started, the pitfalls to avoid early, and a bunch of tips to ensure you progress smoothly and get ahead. We’ll be exploring the game's features in detail, but if you want to learn more about any aspect, you can delve deeper into our dedicated guides, which we’ll link to throughout.

Rose Orbs & F2P

The number one question asked about BP: SR is, is it F2P-friendly? To keep it simple, at the time of release, mostly. All content designed for current player power is fully F2P viable and clearable on all classes. You’ll be able to farm the highest item level gear, acquire your class set gear, and earn your class weapon if you keep your play time up and have a good guild. With that said, additional power is purchasable, and you can definitely deal more damage by spending more.

The “Spender” currency is

Rose Orbs
Rose Orbs
and is primarily used for the purchase of Imagine Gacha pulls,
Unbound Luno
Unbound Luno
(Player Tradeable Gold) to purchase items off of the Trading Center (Auction House), or in the colorful store to acquire additional progression materials. There are four major advantages spenders have over F2P players:

  • Access to all Imagines and Maximum Advancement Gold and Orange Imagines.
  • Higher Level Gem Embedding (Not seen as worth even by most spenders).
  • Capping out account progression systems, like refining faster through Trading Center use.
  • Unlimited “Revive” Candy (limited or unusable in some hard content).

Of these four, the maximum Advancement Imagines is the major difference maker; we’ll discuss this more when we get to Imagines.

It’s worth noting that F2P players can acquire a good amount of free

Bound Rose Orbs

each week through standard play, and that most things spenders have access to will be accessible to F2P over time. Many seasonal activities award free

, and also all weekly activities can easily guarantee you 700 - 1000, depending on your commitment.

Character Creation

Character creation doesn’t need a guide! But something you may want to know is that you can Export and Import character designs as you see fit, helpful for stealing a particularly awesome character your friend made or saving designs for later.

Also worth noting is that compared to other MMOs, completely changing the appearance of your character in BP: SR is relatively cheap, only requiring a Visage Reforger and or Hairstyle Voucher costing 125

Classes

After you’re happy with your appearance, next is Class Selection. On release, there are 8 classes to choose from, each with two different playstyles called specializations (Specs for short). No matter what you choose, it’s generally agreed upon that while some classes/specs are ahead of others in certain situations and at specific gear levels, all classes have at least one viable endgame Spec.

BP: SR follows the Holy Trinity system, with each class falling into the category of Tank, Healer and DPS. With that said, some classes have specs that blend roles, qualifying partially as two parts of the trinity at the same time. The 8 classes and their specs are:

If you’re struggling to decide, don't worry, similar to games like FFXIV, your character is capable of swapping freely between classes once unlocked. To unlock a class, you’ll need a Heroes Radiance, which you’ll get a free one of from a quest at level 2,1 with subsequent ones costing 680

Bound Rose Orbs
Bound Rose Orbs
each from the colorful store.

Tip

To unlock an additional class, speak to Milia the Class Guide in Asterleeds with a Heroes Radiance in your possession.

While multi-classing on one character is definitely possible, you’ll definitely want to choose one to be your main initially. The reason for this is that each has its own exclusive weapon, desired Imagines, and ideal stats on top of the fact that maxing out a class also requires a sizable amount of

Bound Luno
Bound Luno
as well as Advancement Books, which, early on, aren’t plentiful enough to be split between multiple classes. When swapping between classes, here is the progression that carries over:

  • Character Level
  • Talent Points
  • Quest & Account Progression

It’s worth noting that you can still use the gear of other classes, even if it may not be optimal, except for weapons, which can not be used between classes.

Tip

Playing two classes that use the same main attribute and armour type makes dual classing significantly easier, as gear can be reused even if not completely optimal. In the endgame, it’s not unusual for healers/tanks to have both healing/tank classes unlocked for flexibility.

If you’re struggling to pick your main class, you can head over to our Individual Class and Spec Guides or our “What Class to Choose” Guide.

Server Progression

Before getting started, there’s one more thing to know about BP:SR: the server is constantly evolving, with new content unlocking frequently, better gear becoming available, and new areas being added. At the start of the game, this will be more prevalent than ever. Dungeons, Quests, the Main Story, and much, much more will only unlock after a certain period of time has passed, so depending on when you start, your experience will be different. If you’re worried about falling behind, don’t be! BP:SR offers incredibly generous catch-up mechanics.

Note

EXP in BP:SR is almost exclusively earned through the Main Story Quest, Side Quests, and Daily Activity Merit rewards, meaning early on in a server's lifespan, you’ll run into a level “softcap” meaning there’s no need to rush.

Things To Do First

With our character made and our class selected, it’s time to log in and start our adventure! BP:SR has an overwhelming amount of content available right from level 1. That said, there are a few things we recommend doing first to ensure the smoothest experience and so you don’t fall behind!

Main Story Quest

The first and best thing you can do at the very beginning of the game is to pursue the Main Story Quest at least until level 10 to establish yourself and unlock game systems. After that, you can explore other parts of the game and things on this list, but eventually, you’ll always want to complete all available Main Story Quests for either XP or Rewards, as it’s by far the best way to level up and has some great one-time rewards that are well worth collecting.

Tip

It’s not possible to fall behind on the Main Story Quest, meaning putting it off for more time-sensitive tasks on this list is a reasonable choice.

Gear Up, Skill Up, And Allocate Talents

While getting started in the Main Story quest, you’ll earn some

Bound Luno
Bound Luno
, Pick Up Gear upgrades, earn
Talent Points
Talent Points
, and unlock new abilities. You can use all of these to empower your character and should do so whenever possible. Focus on staying on top of the following:

  • Upgrade the level of your abilities you’re using in the skill menu using
    Bound Luno
    Bound Luno
you’ve earned. Maxing out your basic, special, and ultimate is always safe to level with
    Bound Luno
    Bound Luno
    .
  • Allocate
    Talent Points
    Talent Points
in your class skill tree whenever possible (this can be reset at any time).
  • Equip the best gear you have available for your class. The highest gear score is usually best as long as it has the correct main attribute (Strength, Agility, Intelligence)
  • Run a synergistic skill set-up in line with the spec you expect to play.
Note

Some Specs' core abilities unlock at much higher levels than others; in those cases, it’s worth playing the spec with low-level abilities first to respec over later (it’s free).

If you’re struggling with any of these (specifically, which abilities are best to run and level up) check out our Class Spec Guides for full walkthroughs.

Join A Guild

The next step we recommend is joining a guild. Guilds are a great way to find players to play with, but are also one of the most rewarding features of BP:SR, with many dailies and weeklies being tied to them. If you want to learn all the benefits Guilds provide, you can check out our Guilds Guide.

Do Dailies & Weeklies

Once you’re satisfied with your initial progression and before the server reset, make sure you do all available dailies to lock in rewards. After that, you can look into tackling your weeklies as well. You can get a full breakdown of all dailies and weeklies available in the game in our Daily and Weekly Guides or by checking the Must-Do Checklist.

Note

Some dailies and weeklies are level and server progression specific. If you’re not able to access them at your current point of progression, you can ignore them until they unlock.

Explore

After tackling the above, we recommend exploring as much of the map as possible in order to collect as many Teleport Stations and Etherhubs as you can. You’ll be fast-travelling around the map a ton every day, so having them all unlocked is a huge time saver and convenience to lock in early.

Life Skills

Another thing to get stuck into early is a set of Life Skills of your choice. Every day you’ll gain 400

Focus
Focus
, which can be used to harvest or craft valuable progression materials, gear, or consumables. It’s not urgent in your first few days of playing, as it can stack up to 2000, but starting early definitely won't hurt either. For recommendations on which Life Skills to choose, what they all do, and how they interact with the BP:SR economy, check out our Life Skills Guide.

Things To Do Next

After tackling the basics and staying on top of them, there is still plenty more to see and do. Here is a list of what we’d recommend tackling next to progress, power up, and unlock more content.

Terra Resonance Abilities

BP:SR has incredible mobility, and part of that is thanks to Terra Resonance abilities, which must be unlocked. After progressing the Main Story Quest to a certain point, an orange quest called “Terra Resonance” will become available from Airona. This quest allows you to unlock the Float and Phantom Dash abilities. Float is invaluable for overworld exploration, whereas Phantom Dash is a must-have for PVE content.

Note

To use these abilities, your character must be level 17.

To acquire Float, you must resonate with the Hero’s Herb in the Ancient City of Vill, located to the west of the gate to Asterleeds.

To obtain Phantom Dash, players must resonate with a Wind Core located on a floating island in a spire just north of the gate to Asterleeds. To access the island, you must use a wind tunnel just south of the Hero’s Herb

Dungeons and Better Gear

Powering up your character past what’s available from dailies and the Main Story Quest is definitely something you’ll want to consider doing sooner rather than later. You can search for dungeon parties using the group finder or run solo with AI companions at the “Unit X” Research Facility.

Tip

Each dungeon has a minimum Ability Score recommendation you’ll need to clear first before being able to queue. This can be bypassed if you’re in a full group

On release, there are six dungeons available to complete, each with three different difficulty levels: Normal, Hard, and Master, which can be further increased in difficulty from Master 1 all the way up to Master 20. Not all dungeons and difficulties will be available immediately, though, and will unlock over time. The Dungeons available on launch are:

  • Goblin Nest
  • Tina’s Mind Realm
  • Tower Ruin
  • Kanamia Trial
  • Dragon Claw Valley
  • Dark Mist Fortress

If you’re looking for boss guides for each, you can check out our Dungeon Guides, and if you want to learn more about how to perform better in dungeons by boosting your damage or understanding how stats work, check out our DMG Formula Guide, which explains how every single stat works!

Trials and Talent Training

While some

Talent Points
Talent Points
can be acquired from levelling up, a lot more come from Talent Training quests and Trials. Gathering all of your
Talent Points
Talent Points
is a massive boost to your character's power and something you want to get on as soon as you’ve got the basics covered.

Perfection, Refining, Advancing, and Embedding

Farming up strong gear is just the beginning in BP:SR after that, you’ve got four more progression and power systems to engage in, which unlock at different points of your journey. All of these systems, with the exception of Advancing, can be accessed at the Artisan Guild in Asterleeds and will significantly power up your character when you’re ready to engage with them.

  • Perfection: After acquiring gear, you’ll be able to upgrade it using reforge stones by talking to Maxim at the Artisan Guild. Upgrading perfection boosts most of the stats of the item and also unlocks an additional re-rollable stat.
  • Refining: After reaching a certain level, Refining will become available, which allows you the opportunity to enhance specific gear slots for permanent stat bonuses. These enhancements persist even if you change the item in the slot!
  • Embedding: The process of embedding jewels crafted by the Gemcrafting Life skill into your gear for extra stats. Unlike Refining, these are tied to specific pieces of gear and limited to one per piece.
  • Advancing: Outside of levelling skills, which only costs
    Bound Luno
    Bound Luno
and is cheap to do. Skills may also be advanced by consuming Class Advancement books, which, early on in progression, are quite scarce. Be careful where you spend these!

The explanations above are quite brief; for more information on all these systems and more on exactly how gearing works in BP:SR check out our Gear & Upgrade Guides.

Boost Your Ability Score

Ability Score is a representation of your character's overall progression, and boosting it is something you’ll want to stay on top of in order to enter some PVE content. For example, to matchmake the first Dungeon, Goblin Nest, you need 1870. Your ability score is determined by and can be boosted by upgrading:

  • Adventurer Level: Capped at level 60.
  • Talents: Spending
    Talent Points
    Talent Points
in your tree, capped at 70.
  • Skill Level & Advancement:
    • Raising the level and advancement of skills currently equipped.
    • Raising the rarity and advancement (dupes) of your Battle Imagines.
  • Gear: Improving the rarity, gear level, perfection, total stats and refinement level of your gear and gear slots.
  • Emblem: Raising the level of your emblem skills and emblem core (Check the Season Guide for more info)
  • Module: Improving the total amount of Link Points your Module power cores grant you. (Check the Module Guide for more info)

Battle Imagines

Battle Imagines are additional equipable items that grant absurdly potent passives and additional active abilities close in flavor to the strongest cooldowns from other MMOs. You may equip two of them at once. To acquire a Battle Imagine, usually you must craft it by combining three ingredients:

  • An Imagine Will
  • The correct type and quantity of Rare Imagine Crafting Materials
  • The correct type and quantity of Common Imagine Crafting Materials

All three are realistically acquirable for F2P players over time or with some luck, with the exception of Gacha Exclusive Imagine Will,s which must be pulled or crafted using a very large amount of Will Shards.

All Battle Imagines once crafted start at Advancement 0; after this, additional wills and continually increasing Rare Imagine Crafting Materials may be consumed to enhance their active and passive effects up to 5 times (Advancement 5). In addition to improvements to both passive and active effects, Imagines also benefit from cooldown reductions at specific Advancement levels, as well as some Imagines gaining special effects after reaching Advancement 5.

Most players can expect to obtain Purple rarity Imagines at Advancement 5 and Gold rarity Imagines at Advancement 0 after some time and effort. Higher Advancement gold and gacha exclusive Imagines either take a lot of time and dedication to acquire or require spending, forming the biggest difference in performance between spenders and F2P. To learn more about Battle Imagines and how to acquire them without spending, check out our Battle Imagine Guide.

Auto Combat

Promo Image

BP:SR as a mobile-compatible game, features an auto-combat feature that can execute skills you designate automatically on cooldown while following some basic logic based on your class. While this sounds powerful, Auto Combat won't play the game for you; you’ll still need to move out of boss mechanics yourself, parry enemy attacks, and dodge.

It’s much more accurate to describe Auto Combat as Auto Rotation with incredibly rudimentary and dumb pathfinding. In fact, using auto-combat in some dungeons can easily cause a wipe due to its shoddy movement. With that said, some classes can indeed be played acceptably and achieve reasonable endgame results partially or fully on Auto Combat, with Marksman’s Wildpack Spec being the biggest example.

How useful and applicable Auto Combat is for you will depend on what level you plan to play at, how skilled you are, what content you’re doing, and what class you’re playing. It’s commonly accepted that high-end players executing the best possible rotation will always outperform Auto Combat unless faced with ping issues, but if that’s not you, you may achieve better results with a partial or full auto rotation. If you’re just trying to farm monsters in the overworld or knock out dailies quickly, though, it’s a huge win no matter who you are.

Note

Some classes perform so poorly on Auto Combat that it’s almost never recommended.

Starting Late & Catching Up

Starting late in MMOs is always hit or miss, especially in ones with incredibly impactful daily and weekly content, like BP: SR. Fortunately, starting late or missing a few days isn’t a big deal thanks to Rested XP and the Reclaim Hub.

Rested XP
Promo Image

Rested XP exists to catch players that missed one or multiple days of Season Daily Activities, which award 6m XP per day. Fortunately, this XP isn’t lost. After level 10, Rested XP will kick in to catch you back up, offering 2x XP up to a cap of an additional 6m XP per day until you’ve caught up on all the XP you’ve missed out on from daily Seasonal Activities. Rested XP works for both existing and newly created characters.

Reclaim Hub

The Reclaim Hub, on the other hand, is useful for catching up on Daily, Weekly, and Bi-weekly content you didn’t have time to complete. Missing any eligible content will cause the majority of its rewards to be stored in the reclaim hub, which can be bought back using

Reclaim Tokens
Reclaim Tokens
on the next weekly reset. The reclaim hub can be accessed via a button in the bottom left of the Season Hub.

Note

Reclaim Tokens
Reclaim Tokens
can be earned in all the same ways as
